I don't like that he stole the "Star in a reasonably priced car" shtick from Top Gear. His version is the sissy version.

I bet NBC'll toss your local news to 10pm, give Jay the 11pm slot and then run Conan at midnight if they want to save this show.

"The DVR phenomenon is a little bit higher than we thought," said David Poltrack, CBS' chief research executive.

He's the chief research executive?farking really?

I can tell CBS how to save a few hundred thousand a year.

I do not want to see this.

The sooner broadcast television dies, the better. All of those television transmitters should be shut down ASAP to make way for a wireless network infrastructure.

Why save it? The Tonight Show has better brand recognition.

Which means it'll hold up well at midnight, and the Leno show can swoop in and destroy the competition.

Not saying it's a good idea, but I wouldn't put it past a team of desperate network execs.

I'll stick to Hulu for now, thanks.

Only thing I watch when it's aired is sports.

Glenn Abel, a critic for the Web site The Wrap, wrote that he'd seen every one of Leno's shows and it's better than most people think. "Overall, 'The Jay Leno Show' is consistently funnier than 'Saturday Night Live' and is often the most entertaining show in its time slot," Abel wrote.

Talk about damning it with faint praise.

I record Leno/Letterman/Conan/Craig

I actually like all of them. However, Leno is getting better. He is doing more entertainment/variety stuff, and that is a good thing. Some of it is pretty funny.

Nothing is funnier that Wavy the CrocoGator. Craig is really one daft bloke.

For me, Conan's show has suffered much the same way Leno suffered in the Tonight show slot. He is trying to be too tame.

There's this guy-Hey, Kev, did ya hear about this guy on NBC? He's got his own primetime show that's supposed to be a comedy. Anyways, his ratings are so bad (How bad, Jay) He's getting beat in the ratings by TiVo recordings. His ratings are so bad they're renaming the show THE ECONOMY! (Crowd cracks up, makes Idiocracy seem even more accurate,)

I love my DVR. I have not seen a commercial since 2005. :)

2009-11-29 06:59:09 PM
Jay Leno needs to be dropped all together. They stopped advertising The Tonight Show and waste money/time with Jay's crap. Anybody ever see a commercial for Conan during Sunday Night Football? Enough already. Cut Leno loose.

No shiat. I've got chunks in my stool funnier that SNL these days.

"You'd rather have a live viewer than a playback viewer," Poltrack said, "but you'd rather have a playback viewer than nothing at all."

How do they differentiate between "live" and "playback"? 95% of the time I pause a show I'm watching live at the first commercial. Take a bathroom break, fix a drink, etc. Then when I come back I ffwd through the commercials. Does this count as "live" viewing?

Next up, the formation of the Television Network Association of America who will lobby Congress to outlaw TiVo and other PVR technology and sue every college kid in the country for fast-forwarding past the commercial breaks.

Game on!

I usually am the first to say how much he sucks but...

It's funny (in a curious way, not a 'Ha, ha' way) but he is VERY funny 'live'. I saw him perform 4 times before he got 'The Tonight Show'; the first time in front of 20 people.

He was lame on the show, can't interview, cheap-shot jokes, etc but had that built-in TS audience.

At 10 p.m. (EST) slot he has to fight decades of people watching scripted programming and his weaknesses are blantant.

He's a nice guy and deserves better but heck, he is freaking big-time rich and can do whatever he wants.

Except win his time slot...

Jay also had poor ratings when he first started out too after he replaced Johnny. Give Conan some time and let his show mature like Leno's Tonight Show did.

What were they expecting, putting a show that was _created to put you to sleep_ in prime time?

Look, if your brand new "comedy" show is getting trounced by reruns of NCIS and CSI, you've got problems.

Leno's show matured? I think if your jokes all sound like they're written for/by eight-year-olds after 16(?) years in production, there's no maturation there.

I wonder if he's gonna have time. Letterman is currently eating his lunch, Ferguson waiting in the wings once he retires, and Leno will go crying back to late night shortly.

Don't forget to ask for pain and suffering damages. Believe me, the evidence for it is there right on video.

They should have just put Leno on three nights a week, pick the three nights that NBC were the weakest in the ratings, shove him in on them and leave the rest of the week alone. They lose three hours of Prime-Time scripted shows not five, they get cheap TV on nights that they're losing badly on anyway and the material isn't so stretched out giving them time to do on-the-street type stuff, cool car stuff and proper interesting interviews with celebrities instead of vacuous rubbish that he does.
Get them to look up the Australian show Enough Rope for how to do long form interesting interviews or Parkinson from England.

There's no way that eight-year-olds are writing Leno's jokes. The whole Monica Lewinski thing happened way before they were even born.

That's an awfully lucid and workable idea. How come you aren't getting paid big bucks as a programmer for NBC. Of course, you may be an actual NBC exec flying a trial balloon on Fark. If so, can you bring back Journeyman on one of those open slots.

I should watch Craig Ferguson more. Last 4th of July Craig was the MC here in Boston for the Pops concert (he also did it in 2008). He was pretty funny and hopefully he'll be back in Boston for the next 4th.

Yeah, but he totally missed it as an opportunity for his "Great day for America" line. It irked me.

You know what they say about "too much of a good thing". Well, it applies to too much of a bad thing, too!

It's pretty creepy how invested leno's, lettermen's and the like egos are tied up into a TV show. These people won't go away. They think that their whole identity as a person is their TV show and without it they'd wilt and die.
