Most of the specific areas are the heaviest minority areas of those states, and the Democratic voting areas. You do realize that red state votes are not 100% Republican don't you?

Take a look at Texas for instance. Which areas have the most Food Stamp usage? How do those districts vote? Arkansas and Mississippi delta regions are heavy minority, heavy poverty, heavy Democratic voters.

More than a third of blacks in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana are Food Stamp recipients. They are not Republican voters.

Eastern Kentucky may be an exception in regard to minorities. Not sure how they vote.

In general, Food Stamps go to the poor. The South is poor due to its agricultural versus industrial history and large numbers of poor minorities. This has little to do with which Presidential candidate the state as a whole votes for.

Food Stamp recipients are rarely voting Republican no matter where they are.

Subby probably knew this already, but just wanted to repeat the old talking points.

If Subby is so opposed to supporting us Red State "moochers".....cut off the Food Stamps to us "moochers". Bet that will work out well for Democratic voters and candidates in the South. Cut 'em off....go ahead.

The article doesn't mesh with the headline, but the assumption is still correct. Red states dominate the Federal tax money received per dollar given chart. It's a byproduct of red states being very rural,

Somehow I don't think most Food Stamp recipients are voting for Palinites. But I will say that "God Bothering Palinbots" will be the name of my next album, because that is an awesome name.

Cut the red states some slack, they are poorer, less educated, more obese, and less healthy than the blue states. They need to get money back from the federal government to compensate for that.

Clearly, they need more billboards about Jesus along the roadside. The current number they have, which seems to be a LOT, needs to be augmented. More Jesus signs. That's the ticket.

They should probably address that. They ask for a check instead.

The overall statistic is astounding.. 1 in 8 Americans getting food stamps? 1 in 4 children? Sheesh!

Sadly, a large majority of the uneducated impoverished vote Republican. They don't look at the economic skewering they will get, instead it's all about "morality" and "family values".

In summary, I am not surprised that red neck hicks on food stamps vote GOP.

Foodstamps aren't welfare. Welfare is where the government gives you free money to raise lots of children who will grow up to vote for Democrats and other lazy minorities. Not foodstamps or unemployment.

/and yes, 9 times out of 10, that's what welfare detractors think. Thanks Ronald Reagan for introducing America to this idiotic snipe -- we're so much better off because of it.

In May 2009, Craig T. Nelson appeared on Glenn Beck's self-titled tv show, where he spoke about his dislike of the current state of government.

He also announced he would no longer pay taxes, and then wondered "what ever happened to education and firefighters?" (both of which are funded by tax dollars).[4] He went on to state: "I've been on food stamps and welfare, did anybody help me out? No. No."[4]

I don't know...I was all set to throw some stats in his face, about voter habits in relation to income, but, by gum, appears he's right: the poorer you are (and, subsequently, the more public assistance you accept), the more likely you are to vote for Democrats

true... they use the poor as political fodder, they also have no intent on helping them become unpoor, because then they will lose them as a voting base.

The Dems dangle entitlements in front of them like a carrot and lead them to the polls.

All you need to do is provide a citation for your "obvious" statement.

That or continue trolling. Since it's so "obvious", it should be easy.

If we could just teach them how to concentrate harder on their work instead of drugs and the hippity hop, we would turn this country around. We should build mandatory camps to help the country out.

It's actually quite a bit more complicated than that. And it depends on how you measure it. Generally, however, Democrats as a block tend to be poorer -- but that's becasue its a more diverse party.

Which is different than 'voting'. Democrats make a huge block of the electorate -- but mostly don't vote.

If you're comparing apples to apples, people who actually vote, the picture is more mixed.

At any rate, 3_Butt_Cheeks is a fountain head of thread shiating and vitriol.

Most of the gals I work with are on food stamps (though apparently it's now similar to a debit card). They're all unwed single mothers, and with our pay I guess that makes sense.

You people are horrible!

Can't you think of a more modest proposal that would help these poor people, who have more kids than they can support?

While I don't have a comment on the data shown in the map, I must say that's a real whiz-bang of a map.

I'd love to find out how they generated the map with the county boundaries, as well as the pop-up data. Such would be very useful to me in generating maps of my company's dealers for our website.
