What coulda happened, though with less lingerie, more weight, and more wrinkles.

While no good could have come of the guy stepping up, she absolutely escalated the situation unnecessarily by using the megaphone on him at that range.

It is almost like she is at war with anyone in uniform, and anyone that supports people in uniforms. How ironic.

+10 to Veteran.
+10 to Sheehan.

I may think that she went a bit off the deep end when she lost her son, but untold millions of soldiers died so that she could have the freedom to protest that she now has.

To quote Evelyn Beatrice Hall who was summing up Voltaire's view on freedom of thought, "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it?"

archichris: mrjared: Saw this on the news tonight. She wasn't shouting at him. The guy stuck his face in her megaphone.

Did she speak through the megaphone after his face was inside the bell?

Decibel level, blah blah, hearing damage blah blah, assault with liability blah blah, she deserved to have the megaphone shoved up her hoo ha.

I mean honestly what is the difference between what Sheehan does and the Klan having rallies to disparage blacks?

If you're so GOD DAMNED STUPID as to stick your face right in a megaphone, you might expect that the person using the megaphone will keep talking.

Code Stink strikes again. Seems like it is about time for Sheehan and company to jump on a balloon for a world tour. Maybe one shaped like a space ship...

Say what you will about Code Pink, they were within their right to protest. The dude getting in her face was in the wrong for physical confrontation. He should realize that what he is (was) in the military for is to allow freedom of expression of the kind that was being exercised.

I'm all for freedom of speach but why does this crazy coont look like a portrait of Buck Owens carved in an old boot? Isn't there an atractive or at least presentable woman who wants to end the war? All snark aside, wouldn't some semi-hot MILF with a dead soldier son get their cause more sympathy and support than this shrieking, droning hag? It's almost as if someone were putting her in the spotlight repeatedly to make the anti-war movement look bad...

2009-11-29 03:39:58 AM
I'm sorry, I really don't have time right now to read all these posts.

But has anyone mentioned the irony (yeah I'm willing to say it) that she supposedly is standing up against the pointless loss of her son's life, and so chooses to direct her anger at, of all things, the military drones, whose sole purpose is to reduce the number of humans needed to be put in the line of fire, and to provide additional protection for those on the ground?

2009-11-29 03:44:11 AM
I'm pretty far left on a lot of issues. God DAMN but 'code pink' is embarrassing. God dammit y'all, LEARN TO PROTEST WITH A COHERENT MESSAGE.

There is a nearby town here with one of those drive-around court house squares where an old man with a tamborine stands nearly every fair weather day during the summer. He points at every car and shouts "You are going to hell!". As you say, it is his right to do this, but at what point do you have to admit to yourself an individual's cheese has slid off their cracker?

I'm in the military and I find a lot of the things done in the name of "economy of force" morally reprehensible, but I find better ways to get my shiat together and express that than being an anti-war themed attention whore.

The effect Cindy Sheehan, CodePINK, et.al have on the military and military issues is only to validate the status quo by presenting themselves as the option. And of course idiots like yourself whose intellectual pockets are so shallow you address the issue with Nazi analogies.

You, CodePINK, ANSWER, and Cindy Sheehan in particular need to STFU and come back when you're ready to be serious about problem solving instead of just looking for somewhere to engage in narcissistic catharsis. You're no Abbie Hoffman.

Wow I saw that vet walk right up to them and strike them at least 2 times. The first was when he was apparently surprised to find that deliberately bringing his face closer to the megaphone eventually would result in his face touching the megaphone, upon which he shoved the megaphone back into Sheehan's face. hse spoke through it at him and he used it as a weapon to strike her.

But I guess being a vet, he is entitled to bully citizens out of exercising the rights he supposedly fought to defend.

2009-11-29 03:54:26 AM
Jakevol2: if that man had an ounce of class or any remaining military bearing he would have backed off from Cindy Sheehan and apologize to her. He is a shame to his uniform and to this country.

Well that was just about the dumbest post I've ever read.

Plus, she did stop talking. The lady shouting at the vet, without a megaphone, is NOT Cindy Sheehan. The man in full dress uniform, physically pushing around old ladies, is really in the wrong here. I don't agree with this protest at all, but this guy is farking retarded.

It's narcissistic to say that the best answer to a problem isn't blowing up other people? Huh, I'll be damned, I didn't know that.

Further, you seem to think that the only non-answer is one that disagrees with the whole war mindset. Why isn't "no war" an option for you - are you just too brainwashed to consider it? Oh, right, you're in the military.

FTFA:" ....the first of six planned protests against unmanned military drones currently in use in overseas war zones."

WTF? That's it? They're now OK with the war but they don't like unmanned drones? I saw Phil Donahue biatching about unmanned drones a few months back. I mean, are they saying they'd rather have the missiles fired by piloted aircraft? What the hell's the difference as far as they're concerned? I think I get it: with an unmanned drone the chances of an American dying is zero, and the Left just can't have that.

Elmo Jones: Two words: Conduct Unbecoming.

He was wearing the uniform of the United States Air Force, and is under strict protocols on how to behave. Yes, your First Amendment rights are limited.

Ms. Sheehan needs to see a doctor.

Only applies to officers, IIRC.

It's what's in the news. They like to isolate things, demonize them, then amplify the moral outrage among people who don't really know wtf they're talking about anyway but are just keen on the anti-war effort.

If they were honestly just trying to make the war more humane for Afghans and Pakistanis they would advocate against economy of force measures as a whole. But that's not as sexy as just being against drones. And if they successfully drag down the reputation and use of drones then our operations in Pakistan are more difficult.

And really, I'd like to know Cindy Sheehan's solutions for Northern Pakistan that don't involve either continued drone operations, or the open use of SOF. I'm all for putting SOF on the ground in Waziristan.*

Meh. I don't think the soldier was in the wrong. I'm basing that opinion on the fact that Sheehan is as wrong as wrong gets. All values appear to be nil when standing next to the infinitely wrong.

2009-11-29 05:14:35 AM
i find it amusing the people debating the ethics of war.

You can dress war up in a pretty pink dress with ribbons and some perfume but it's still terrible. Mainly because people in general are terrible.

Bottom line of war is that people die - accept it. The trick is to make them all die before you do. Ethics and values and all that feel good crap have no place in a REAL war. The UN, and all the treaties we have signed over the decades would be thrown out the window in an instant if our back was against the wall.

All is fair in love and war - trillions of dollars, thousands of lives lost, and you want to have a RULEBOOK on what you can and can't do? F that.

Protesting the use of unmanned drones? I'm sorry that her son died but Cindy Sheehan is farking nuts. In a world where all it takes is a few deluded religious weirdos with a hard-on for violence in their god's name to create chaos, I'm all for anything that reduces troops in harm's way.

Your_Huckleberry: Funny how the left dropped her like a rock once she started aiming her rants at them, not to mention that whole Administration change deal. Seems to me that she's no longer useful. But at least she's consistant.

I know someone just like her. Walked around bellowing how the "Great One" was going to end all of the wars/conflicts and return us to peace. She wanted him to take it a step farther and to dismantle the military. Obama gets into office....nothing changes....now she's biatching at him.

It was funny when she went down to the recruitment office and had words with one of the Marines there.

Looks like Cindy Sheehan and the "unidentified military veteran" were both being douche bags. He shouldn't have gotten so close to her and she shouldn't have put the megaphone in his face.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but does anyone else think the "unidentified military veteran" seemed a little off? I would've thought the military guys would've just watched from a distance in case of trouble rather then get involved, so this guy's behavior seems odd. I wonder if he's one of those "stolen valor" jerks.

Sometimes, when you see someone denouncing something you've invested a great part of your life doing, and had great pride in doing, you lose a little bit of rationality.
Yes, she has a right to protest.
He has a right to call her on it.
