This was the biggest farking cop-out I've ever seen. "You died, managed to get resurrected, so now you belong to me, Nekron!"

That means half the goddamned DCU is gonna wind up as Black Lanterns.

Ok so I don't follow the DCU universe at all but of course I know who Batman and Green Lantern are.

Can someone in the shortest and simplest way possible make those pictures make sense to me.

This. All I'm seeing when I see this shiat is the franchise jumping the shark, pulling farking oddball shiat out of their ass in a sad attempt to fuel interest in...whatever the fark this is.

I just dont get it. Perhaps I never did.

Ok. Green Lantern Corp rings work using will power, which is the green part of the emotional spectrum. The Sinestro corp uses fear, which is yellow. There's a prophecy about a war of light between the various colors of the emotional spectrum (fear, will, avarice, rage, hope, compassion and love = yellow, green, orange, red, blue, indigo, violet). These are derived from the white light of creation. The antithesis of all of these is black (death).

All of these colors have a lantern corp now. Their (all but black) war brought about the Blackest Night, which is the rise of the black lanterns. Black Lanterns are the dead who wield black rings. Originally, the dead rose, manipulated the emotions (see spectrum) of people they knew in life. After a certain emotional response level, the Black Lanterns ripped out the hearts of the living and ate them, feeding power into the Black Lantern central battery. After enough carnage (100% BL battery charge), the Central Battery emerged and Nekron was brought forth by Black Hand. Incidentally, Black Hand has been wandering around toting Bruce Wayne's skull. The skull is from the corpse of Wayne/Batman after Darkseid hit him with the Omega Sanction in Final Crisis.

The Black Lantern Batman is from Blackest Night #5. Nekron causes him to be. Batman's emotional connection to the big heros of the DCU makes them susceptible to Nekron's power. The rings Batman spews force themselves onto people's fingers and Nekron commands them to die. Thus, they become Black Lanterns (except Barry Allen and Hal Jordan). Nekron then makes Batman dead again, his purpose completed. (Yes, Barry Allen is alive again. See Final Crisis.)

Ultimately, the goal of Nekron and the BL Corp is to destroy the white light of creation (and life) that later fragmented into the aforementioned emotional spectrum.

tl;dr: DCU is turning into the Care Bears vs Zombies

Oh yeah. Blackest Night has been really farking good for the most part. This has been building since the return of Hal Jordan and the Sinestro Corp War.

I liked Final Crisis too.

I can start. I don't know enough about the DCU to do it very thoroughly.

Basically, the Green Lanterns aren't the only Lantern Corps out there, each keyed to a different emotion. Green is Willpower, then you have Red (rage), Orange (avarice), Yellow (fear), and so on.

Black Lanterns are dead people, basically. The ring resurrects them with all superpowers intact, their switch flipped to the "evil" setting, and if any part of them is injured, it can partially restore them.

And these rings have so far managed to take over The Spectre, Deadman's original body, Solomon Grundy and the Dibney's bodies.

/We've seen Deadman's response to this, but have yet to see the Dibney's.

Pretty lame. DC has really dropped the ball on this ring thing.

The comics that came with a ring were horrible with the exception of Booster and such, but the rest like Adventure blew chunks. Thanks DC for putting them in comics nobody gives a rats arse about. REBELS deals with a yellow ring but gives out a blue one.
They didn't even have the common sense to give out a ring the same color as the story would have.
Green Lantern Corp is an absolute mess which few can follow. Hopefully they pull their head out and get some good solid storylines.
The mini series like Blackest Night: Batman and BN: Superman were ok, but people wanting to read the whole series are dropping out pretty fast and just sticking with the core books.

Yeah, most of the tie-ins have been less than stellar. I'm not looking forward to the next batch. I'll still buy them because I'm a chump like that. The best stuff has been in GL and BN. GLC is just...meh. Though the end of the last issue was great. Kyle sucks.

I wish they would have stuck to the original plan and left the story in ongoing GL titles, especially after all of the tie-ins for Final Crisis.

Yes. Or at the least, not give the whole thing another CRISIS feel.
Most people are buying the titles but feel the whole thing will be "reset" when it's over.

Well, at least after this is over and everyone is alive again (which you know they all will be), Batman won't be able to give Hal any shiat anymore about being evil and then coming back to life.

How can you not like Adventure Comics #4? I read a review that perfectly described it as parody of Blackest Night by the author of Blackest Night (and also a PART of Blackest Night). And it has actually depicts the reader's reaction IN THE COMIC:

So does this mean that every dead superhero/villain can be a black lantern? And if so, why not make Doomsday a black lantern? And I'm not talking about all those clones that came afterwards, but the original Doomsday. The guy who fought Superman to a standstill and killed him. Man just imagining someone with that much power with a freakin lantern ring!

The entire thing was pretty much blatantly dedicated to taking the piss out of the retarded bullshiat with Superboy Prime. I loved it.

Also, I collected all but the pink and black rings from Blackest Night (still trying to find a pink ring, don't care about the black rings). Since they're promotional pieces of crap they're just molded, single-color plastic. I got some Warhammer miniatures paint from Games Workshop and really spruced them up into something pretty kick-ass, though.

I want to get a few new green rings, because the black Kyle Rayner ring got some nasty scratches on the side and revealed the clear-grey plastic under the green paintjob. Still, I'm happy with hour they turned out!

I completely missed Battle for the Cowl and all of the post-Final Crisis Batman bullshiat, but isn't that actually Bruce's body Alfred buried (after Superman brought it back after Final Crisis)?

And the rings aren't resurrecting anyone, but they're definitely reanimating. They access the host's memory to produce something like a personality, but they're not actually the dead brought back to life. They're more like meat-robots controlled by an elemental death power thingie.
