First term yes second term no.

2009-11-24 11:06:50 PM
ROTFLMAO.

that, in a nutshell, is republican cognitive dissonance:

truth: during bush's presidency, america suffered the worst terrorist attack in its history
republican version: during bush's presidency, america suffered no terrorist attacks

absolutely amazing. absolutely farking amazing.

borg: First term yes second term no.

she didn't specify. she said, "during president bush's term." not "first term."

this is what republicans believe: 9/11 DID NOT HAPPEN UNDER BUSH.*

*except for the towlhead-kicking response part. that happened, amirite!!!

2009-11-24 11:10:57 PM
Absolutely astounding. Even more so because the statement provoked absolutely no astounded response.

Well, in her defense, she's a complete farking idiot.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this "Bush kept America safe since 9/11" meme that's been catapulted by neoconservatives in the last couple years. His thought was that this talking point was just a stepping stone to normalizing the idea that 9/11 didn't actually happen on Bush's watch at all.

This would now be 2nd time I've seen an employee of the Bush administration caught using this lie. Give it another year, and Gallup will find that half of the polled Republicans think 9/11 happened while Clinton was President.

Which term?

2009-11-24 11:14:28 PM
in the mythology of modern america, this is tantamount to denying the holocaust*

*no, i'm not comparing the deaths of 6,000,000 jews to the deaths of 3,000 americans

Do you have any idea how many people I've heard blame Clinton for Ruby Ridge?

Hell, there are people EVERYDAY on this site that talk about "Obama's Bank bailout" and that happened ONE YEAR AGO.

hubiestubert: Which term?

so is this how we're going to parse this? she said, "We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term," and you guys are going to say, "well, she didn't specify which term. you know, during his second term, we didn't have a domestic terror attack, so she's half-right."

are you really going to go there? really?

At risk of betraying my ignorance, the first time I ever heard about Ruby Ridge was on this site. I didn't even know until I looked it up that it wasn't on Clinton's watch.

Apparently you two are cool with the "as long as she's only 50% wrong then let's go with that..." it's got "truthiness!" (Or you got your soundbite of the day FAX from Rove?)

This is like how morans have a tendency to credit Ronald Reagan with everything good that happened in our economy in 1980. And blame Carter for the 1982 recession. Zooom...

You see, it wasn't a "terrorist attack" it was an act of God! Raining down punishment for our tolerance of gays and negroes. Same as Katrina. The sooner we return to a white, Christian, straight country like the founding fathers and Jesus wanted, the sooner God will stop punishing us.

2009-11-25 12:09:16 AM
Well, Perino's right. We didn't have a terrorist attack during Bush's term, we had several terrorist attacks.

1) Nine f*cking eleven
2) Anthrax mailings
3) DC sniper

etc.

I think it's much more likely that people are only going to remember that 9/11 happened as part of the war on terror, but not who was in office at the time. It'll be like vietnam, where people may have some familiarity with the players but no real recollection of who was around when it started.

Since Bush's term didn't start until after 9/11/2001 according to Dana Perino (and others), then I guess we can't blame Obama for anything except for the last 2 months so far.

That's incorrect, the Stimulus plan that Bush signed is Obama's fault too. As is the failing economy, and the Iraq war. For all intents and purposes Bush was in office from January 20, 2001 to September 9, 2001 and Obama took office September 10, 2001. Jeez... get with the program.

I don't think it matters whose term it was on. Saying that a terrorist attack didn't happen during Bush's term is equivalent to saying those acts were not terrorism -which everyone knows is utter bs.

ju66l3r: Since Bush's term didn't start until after 9/11/2001 according to Dana Perino (and others)...

Would you mind citing some of the others you mention please? I don't see how many people would line up behind Perino if she really believes this (although some people in this thread are predictably falling over themselves in a rush to say this is exactly what Republicans think.)

Sure thing. How about Wendell Goler on Fox News?

Or Peggy Noonan saying: "At a certain point, a president must own a presidency. For George W. Bush that point came eight months in, when 9/11 happened. From that point on, the presidency-all his decisions, all the credit and blame for them-was his. The American people didn't hold him responsible for what led up to 9/11, but they held him responsible for everything after it".

Or hell, let's go with the ex-VP himself! Dick, come on down, you're the next historical revisionist liar on "Give Sumo Surfer Proof!": "You know, Dick Clarke. Dick Clarke, who was the head of the counterrorism program in the run-up to 9/11. He obviously missed it. The fact is that we did what we felt we had to do, and if I had to do it all over again, I would do exactly the same thing."

So, Clarke's fault, Bush owned his presidency AFTER 9/11, 9/11 was inherited...take your pick. I hope 3 is enough.

I'm pretty sure 9/11 happened a couple of months after Obama was elected.

And how can I make money off of these morons?

This should surprise absolutely no one. If it does, you haven't been paying attention.

2009-11-25 02:43:58 AM
Everyone knows the stuff that happens in your first year in office isn't really your fault.

Unless, of course, it's a bad economy and you're a democrat. Then you're responsible for things that happened before you were even elected because the market was reacting negatively to the mere possibility of a democrat becoming president.

I'm glad someone is pointing out the unbelievable BS that gets said on Fox without being challenged or corrected. Someday this will make one heck of a three hour clip-fest.

If only our Bush and Cheney had prayed a little harder maybe none of the bad things would have happened.

Is there contention that the Ft. Hood shootings were terrorism but the DC Sniper was not? The Cognitive Dissonance burns!!!

Well, only if popular media weren't so damn obliged to reporting what gets people watching, we might actually get some objective examination.

And it's even odder, since Clarke had handed them a comprehensive report before Bush even got into office officially, and it was ignored. By Bush. By Cheney. By pretty much the entire Administration. And that is the saddest fact that his water carriers want to deflect. Not My Pet Goat, not vacations to the Crawford Ranch. Not the lies that led us to Iraq. But that for an Administration that so traded on sympathy and outrage for 9/11, they ignored their own Counter-terrorism Advisor.

Clarke put the report on the desk, and he called their attention to it--but if you don't act on things, then you have only yourself to blame.

And that is what irks me about Bush's cronies and water carriers. That as Republicans, we're supposed to be about responsibility. Our leadership points to it all the time. But all you hear from the Bush and Cheney camps--even today with Dick and his dissembling daughter--is how everything was someone else's fault.

And idiots like Hannity and O'Reilly, and Rush, and Coulter, have promulgated this tale, and not questioned it, when it flies in the face of everything that they claim to believe in.

You cannot claim to be the party of responsibility if you don't accept some. And this drive to shed responsibility at any point only illustrates what is so terribly wrong with the last Administration, and with the leadership in my own party.

Reporters, pundits, bloggers, they have to stop repeating lies that they know are lies, and call folks on it, or just admit that you're just a PR firm that likes to dress down for TV.

That's what I was thinking. It's like they only say stupid shiat when the Daily Show isn't on for a while. Then when it does come on there's far too much news for them to cover everything.
