Maybe the guy developed some major Shaolin-type powers of mind control while he was in a coma...

CarriePrejean: There are an awful lot of farkers in this thread saying they'd want someone to pull the plug, whether or not they could communicate.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PUT THIS IN THE APPROPRIATE LEGAL DOCUMENTS, NOT A FARK THREAD!!!

It's the new ITG.

/just pull the plug, I'm edgy.

Five bucks says the "facilitator" responds to criticism by explaining that it's all good, she knows what he wants to say because she's "psychic".

zefal: I'm a facilitator and have told my patients of you skeptics denialists (what's it like being in the same category as someone who denies the Holocaust? Are you proud of yourselves!?!?) Well, anyway, back to my point; my patients say they'd kick your collective a$$eS if they weren't completely listless mounds of goop.

What Holocaust?

The holocaust is when Melkor captured elves and through dark magic corrupted them until they evenetually became the evil race known as orcs. I believe that that is the holocaust of which that faker facilitator speaks.

Third_Uncle_Eno: what about "locked-in syndrome" ?

/saw it on 'House'

From TFA:
"According to experts I have talked to, this is a condition in which a patient is aware and awake but cannot move or communicate due to complete paralysis of the voluntary muscles of the body. The major cause of this horrible condition is a stroke in a key artery in the brain that causes severe damage to the lower brain and brain stem but not the cortex, where thought and consciousness reside. It is not clear how a car accident may have caused a locked-in situation."

oh wow.
that's pretty neat, cuz i totally didn't read the article at all.

/i probably should've put that fact in my original post... whoops.
// me dumb, but surprisingly right.

therhinodep: Simple test: Put a blindfold on the nurse, so she can't see to type with his hand, then ask him to write the name of the first girl he had a crush on. "kjewciuo unewdjk"

She was Polish?

cryinoutloud: Marcintosh: Yeahhhhh I remember the controversy about "Assisted Communication" dealing with stricken kids. I think the issue was Autism.
It really was a case of just really wanting this to work. Kinda sad really.

I saw a case where this was not a scam. A mother had given her son a computer so he could communicate. She had to yell at him a lot and direct him to the keyboard (he was seriously disabled and couldn't concentrate long enough to type unless she was with him.) But he typed by himself, and turned out that there was nothing wrong with his brain. He typed about how hard it was to be trapped inside his body, able to think but not able to communicate.

I don't know how that could have been a scam. It was amazing to see this man type things out, when he could barely control his body, couldn't make eye contact, couldn't do much of anything. He had a hard time even making his hands work the keyboard.

I've felt differently about autistic people ever since I saw that. I think they're in there

Did you actually see him type, or just see what had already been typed?
