Cool.
Should be BLASTING Ironman and Don't Tread On Me across loudspeakers around Baghdad.

I thought Jason Newstead left Metallica because of "mental and physical damage he had sustained" while he was Metallica's bassist.

I guess he recovered, or something.

2003-03-25 09:41:35 AM
this is all just stupid.

2003-03-25 09:56:02 AM
I don't get it. Where's the irony?

Man, I can't wait for the new Voivod album. Jason rocks!

RagingLeonard - that's what I heard too. Is Newstead going with Voivod or Ozzy?

Bah. Metallica has sucked since Cliff died.

RIP Cliff.

In other news, both there artists are now completely irrelevant.

And the Award for Most Uncool band in History:

Metallica, for that whole Napster fiasco.

Imagine the irony! The next thing you'll be telling me is that a doctor who deliberately immersed himself in a deadly virus trying to save people, HIMSELF got sick!

oh, wait, none of these things are ironic, either.

I get it. Metallica and Black Sabbath suck, so it would be expected that they just not play at all, right?

2003-03-25 02:22:39 PM
Black Sabbath = Ozzy....close enough.

I'm actually looking forward to hearing metallica + infectious grooves. Should be kinda cool, as long as they don't try to go nĂ¼ metal on us. All in all, though, I miss Cliff.

All of the above-mentioned musicians suck ass.

And this is ironic HOW?

i·ro·ny ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-n, r-)
n. pl. i·ro·nies

The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.

An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.

A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect.

Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: "Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated" (Richard Kain).

An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity.

I thought only 50-year-old rednecks still listened to Ozzy and Metallica.

I sure hope Drew doesn't get sued for having the word "Metalicca" on the frontpage of Fark. Oh crap, now I'm gonna get sued for writing it in my comment. I better get out of here, quick.

It's not that they shouldnt perform anymore, IROCKALOT,
the question is, what is the FARKING POINT?

I saw BLACK SABBATH's reunion a few years ago, and it was farking sad... Ozzy had a teleprompter , A TELEPROMPTER! for songs he's been singing for , what now, 30 years?

just retire with dignity, its all i want from my rock star...

2003-03-25 02:34:43 PM
In case anyone cares, many of the new Metallica songs are available on Kaaza, just do a search for St Anger. Most are pre-produced, and Bob Rock in on bass, but doesn't sound too bad. Probably will be their best album in the last 12 years.

Scaredofbees,
You would have to spell it right before getting sued ;)

Well, neither Metallica nor Ozzy has released a decent album since the mid 80's, so maybe this is the shake-up they need. Or, Ozzy could just continue as America's favorite incoherent, drug-addled celebrity and Metallica can go on being the highest-paid cover band in history.

I like both Metallica and Ozzy. So sue me.

Yeah, Les Claypool, Geezer Butler, dude from rush, Paul McCartney, and plenty more just couldn't cut it as a guitar player. Rethink that...wait...you probably are unable to.

now, with all that said... I'm just playin' please don't flame me because my little heart would just get broken :-)

Pr2 & Gix

your bands must be really good with all that respect you have for other musicians.

2003-03-25 02:45:33 PM
Ozzy's albums with Randy Rhodes were masterpieces. Metallica's albums with Cliff Burton were masterpieces.
Metallica released one last great album post-Burton, that would be "And Justice for All". Ozzy has never recovered from the loss of the most brilliant guitar player of his time. None of his albums afterwards measured up.
Anybody who says the above musicians suck are themselves the suckiest sucks who ever sucked.

SkunkDuster:

Jason played on the new Voivod CD and appears in the video, but I do not think that he was ever a full time member of the band. More than likely, this was just to spark interest in Voivod - especially since Snake, the singer of Voivod was their original bassist if I remember correctly.

Never liked a Voivod CD with him singing either...

2003-03-25 02:47:44 PM
I don't care what anyone says. All heavy bands now would not BE, were it not for bands like Black Sabbath. All the bands I have ever interviewed have cited black sabbath as a MAJOR influence. It doesn't mean you have to LIKE Black Sabbath, but they are deserving of your respect. (I mean, just that they did such a massive amount of drugs and aren't DEAD yet is saying something. *knocks on wood*)

Wake me when Kyuss reforms.

At least they put out some good metal within the last 10 years.

Well, I still like Metallica.

Jason is a cool guy though, I'm glad he's doing this.

He also hated Lars for those that care.

2003-03-25 02:52:55 PM
Not much here worth commenting on, other than that the site said almost nothing about the new Metallica bassist, so I had to dig around Metallica.com for more info. It's no one I've heard of, so I don't know how it'll turn out.

2003-03-25 02:53:47 PM
In other news, Metallica still sucks.

2003-03-25 02:54:13 PM
I havent heard the new single from Irockalot's band lately but maybe its because I dont listen to pillowbiter radio. Ozzy is the grandfather of rock, metallica is uhhh...Ozzy can still put on a hell of a show and MTV-Icon? MTV sux my bloated member in any form. 'The Guy from Rush' umm Getty Lee(sp?) can play circles around most bass players, and anyway whats a band without a bass-player? I play both well enough to hold my own so until I see your band on Oz-Fest or Family Value's STFU, and get to your gig at the VFW hall.

Pathetic that I need to say any of this....:(

2003-03-25 02:55:09 PM
bassists=people who couldn't make it as lead or rhythm guitar players.

How bout Mike Watt, Flea, Getty Lee (dude from rush), John Entwisle (r.i.p.) John Paul Jones, etc.
When the bass is played properly you don't need a rythym guitar and the lead guy can just relax and not make an ass of himself on every song.
