Mostly on the eyes, occasionally the appetite. I'm waiting for the psyche shattering images.

FTFA: A few minutes later, the same guy posted the same single-word comment again. I deleted it, but noticed in the WordPress e-mail alert that his comment had come from an IP address at a local school. So I called the school. They were happy to have me forward the e-mail, though I wasn't sure what they'd be able to do with the meager information it included.

Wow. Kurt Greenbaum appears to be openly proud of being a complete dickhead. Calling an employer because you had to moderate two words? What a coont.

Kurmudgeon: Work computer, use it only for work. My privacy is too important to me to fool around on a corporate machine. Just wait until you get home.

So totally THIS. If you're at work, using the 'net, and using language that would make any HR rep gibber about harassment lawsuits, you might as well keep your resume updated. No sympathies here.

xip_80: This whole thing seems shady, but I bet there is more to it.

First of all, the guy posted his comment, the admin deleted it, and then he re-posted it.

Second of all, the admin may not have needed to spend a lot of time tracking down an IP address. If the source of the post was logged as "blahblahblah.school.xx.us" or something, it may have been immediately obvious to the admin that it was originating from a nearby school.

To play the devil's advocate here, it's possible that the admin just thought that a student was trolling their board and called the school for that reason. I wonder if the admin would have really called up any other business to complain.

It also seems odd that the school employee "resigned on the spot." It doesn't seem reasonable for the school to immediately ask him to resign, but schools are messed up places. Or it's also possible that the guy was a real jerk and flipped out when confronted, or he had a lengthy discipline record and this was the last straw, or even that he had been doing other shady things with his computer and figured he better just step out.

I'm in agreement. There has to be more to the situation than what was in this story.

He probably thought it was a student that was trolling and was looking to get someone detention rather than fired.

Too bad the newspapers privacy policy prohibits the editor from doing exactly what he did.

This editor should be fired and the FP in every story should be a giant warning that the editors of this towns newspaper do not follow their stated policy and are untrustworthy and will sell their readers down the river for spite.

I don't know why I'm shocked, but this thread is as sickening as the comments in that blog.

Hello? Who, precisely, chose to sit at the computer?
Who chose to visit the site?
Who chose to post pointless vulgarity from his employer's connection?
Who chose to do it again after it was deleted?
Who chose to retire when confronted?

Some dude knowingly interjects useless vulgarity into a conversation, knowingly repeats the behaviour, knowingly does so using someone else's resources, and chooses to quit his job as opposed to dealing with the issue...and Kurt Greenbaum is the "douchie-douche tool"???

Gah. Sick.

Besides the fact that hes a director of social marketing and he should be winning customers over, not making them hate the newspaper... should their not be some privacy? That website does have a privacy policy which they didn't really uphold at all. The fact that he's bragging about it makes it all the worse. hes a farking tool, that really is the bottom line. The comments on that page sum it up nicely though.

Unfortunately, their privacy policy (like most) has a truck-sized hole in it which allows them to share the information they collected "if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to ... protect against misuse or unauthorized use of our web sites ..." Making a pussy joke is an unauthorized use.

They're sneaky, untrustworthy douchebags who deserve to have the sources for every single one of their anonymous stories outed to the public, but they complied with their meaningless privacy policy.

Seriously, if you post something vulgar and it gets removed don't post it again. I'm sure plenty of people got to see it and remark how clever you were before it was taken off so, just let it go man.

Gah. Sick.

You're missing the f*cking point. I'll spell it out for you:

Why does Kurt Greenbaum need to track down someone who posted the same response twice, call their work, and end up getting them to resign?

His job is to patrol his blog and moderate it. Can you imagine if Fark moderators tracked down all the trolls around here and called their work? Kidding aside, this place would suck.

Mr. Greenbaum needs a taste of his own medicine. I can guarantee that if enough people emailed/sent letters admonishing him, he would apologize/be let go.

BTW - to those of you wondering how much more there was going on behind the scenes for the teacher, there was probably nothing. The chat probably went like this:

"We saw what you posted on the internet. Your choices are to resign right now on the spot or take it before the board, let them see what you posted, and get fired. You realize that if you are fired for this, no school will ever hire you again?"
