Is 14 million all it takes to ruin a classic? That's a bargain.

2009-11-18 01:06:28 PM
He should do 4 or 5 more of them, like Eugene Levy.

Not sure if it's a top 5 of all time (for me), but a classic fo sho.

I have never seen the original. As a movie buff, I am embarassed. I saw the Criterion Collection has this in stock at my local Barnes and Noble. It's on sale for half-price. 20 bucks. I do want it, but is it really worth it? Lemme know Farkers :-)

Subby flubbed the line, I think.

Should be "Because he keeps getting older but they stay the same age."

I think a sequel would be a pretty dumb idea. Let it go.

Dazed and Confused was alright, but it's not the epic some of you make it sound like. it's a bunch of stoned high school kids looking for a party.

Dazed and Confused gets classified as just a stoner movie, but it's a right of passage film that successfully takes you back to 1976. It deserves a lot more respect from critics. It's great storytelling.

All Linklater's movies are excellent. He's fantastic. He should just go indie, get it out of the Hollywood system and keep 'em cheap. Show Hollywood that you don't need 14 million to do a great movie.

The fact that movies like Transformers and the reboot of Star Trek do so well is because that's what the big screen is for: special effects so amazing that the majority of viewers don't care about the abysmal scripts, characters and dialogue. The dumbing down of the human species has its rewards.

I know, I know. I cant decide whether to buy Salo or D n C. Salo is one of the most graphic...movies...I have ever encountered. But Dazed and Confused is supposed to be in every movie lovers collection. I am torn.

I just picked up a normal DVD from the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. If you're not sure you want to spend the $20, surely you can spend the $5 to see such a classic.

When you're a stoned high school kid, looking for a party IS an epic adventure. And Linklater nailed that feeling.

manduwala: That film makes me nostalgic, and I was born in '78. Truly timeless.

Yea, I think that's why the film is so classic, at least for children of the 70's. Takes you right back, captures all of the good things (muscle cars, music and mindset).

I farking hated so that movie so goddamn much, I turned it off and mailed it back to Netflix within 30 minutes of starting the film.

Oh no...I was one...that's why I find it to be rather tame. I remember the days of looking for a party on the weekend and whatnot, but when we did find a party they were usually more interesting that meeting at the moontower.

I've seen Salo and it's....virulently disgusting on the level of "what if Gorgor had a video camera, spoke Italian, and got paid $59.95 to make a movie".

I like porn, I revel in it, but Salo wasn't sexy to me at all.
But I'm a more golden age porn kinda guy.

Get D&C, it's entertaing and highly remeniscent for those of us who are a certain age.

McConaughey is easily one of the most annoying figures in Hollywood, and one of the least talented. But I have to concede that he was perfect for the dimwitted creep he played in Dazed and Confused. The movie is a near-perfect depiction of my teen years, and yeah...I remember that particular creep.

Imagine one of today's 30-year-old scriptwriters, having been a teen in the 90's, trying to retell that story! Fail.
