One glass of orange juice with breakfast does contain a good amount of glucose, but that little sugar boost helps me get my day started. And with it I get other vitamins and minerals. That one glass won't make me a giant fatty with diabetes.

The issue with sodas, and the reason they're such the focus or nutritionists, is that people don't just have one glass a day. Instead, it's all some people drink.

Moderation, motherfakrers.

Um.

When I was a kid, EVERYONE had OJ (some had GJ), and NOBODY was fat. Well, at least it was very rare. So I don't know what kind of junk science these people are trying to push on us...

timujin: Moderation, motherfakrers.

Ah. Yeah. That, too.

There's also evidence that high consumption increases the risk of obesity, especially among kids.

Science links eating to weight.

Is purple drank still okay?

Shouldn't this be a Florida tag? I mean fitting that the tag has the orange in it.

Whiskey bad?!?

Blasphemy!!!

The real issue is what you hinted at: Coke is empty calories. OJ may have some sugar, but it does have some nutrients as well.

Duh, TAX IT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM!

2009-11-17 01:57:25 PM
Have you ever given your kid as much whiskey as they wanted? How do you know it's bad then.

2009-11-17 01:57:48 PM
Calories and sugar aren't unhealthy. Too many calories and too much sugar are unhealthy.

2009-11-17 01:58:24 PM
When I was a kid I did this thing called playing outside. I could eat as much of anything as I damn well pleased. It isn't that complicated.

2009-11-17 01:58:38 PM
YOu'll never convince me that fruit juice is a problem. OJ has all sorts of good stuff in it and natural sugar, not HFCS.

What is a problem is any caloric intake and no exercise. You can drink or eat anything in excess and get fat if you sit on your ass long enough.

No, They have it backwards. Whiskey is as good for you as orange juice.

Orange juice is several times worse for me than Pepsi, Coke, or whiskey, mainly because one glass of orange juice will give me a two-day migraine with all the vomitty trimmings.

/Fark you, oranges

My 7 year old enjoys a little nip of whisky before toddling off the school in the morning. He seems to have his head on pretty straight, so I'm not about to second guess him.

logggur: Calories and sugar aren't unhealthy

I don't think anyone has said calories are unhealthy. The major side affect of too few calories is death.

Is this STILL the case? I think we went over this last week.

What do you mean, subby? 1 oz of whiskey is only 80 calories. Plus, it's alcohol, so it's also a disinfectant.

2009-11-17 02:01:31 PM
What the hell is "juice"?

2009-11-17 02:01:50 PM
Even worse:

The "orange juice" in Serbia. It was just a smidge of orange juice for flavor and color, with a shiatload of sugar....and no pulp. With one sip, you could feel your teeth rotting away.

/Always by my orange juice with plenty of pulp.
//Suck it, haters.

A lot of popular main stream juices have added BS in them, including surgar.

100% real juice or nothing.

...and Tropicana is some of the worst tasting OJ out there. I like to leave rind juice out of my OJ, thank you.

I have an old set of drinking glasses that I inherited form my parents, with good old fashioned juice glasses. I'll admit that I never use the damn things becasue they are too freaking small.

Also, maybe, just maybe, beverages that are 25% juice, with the remainder being corn-syrup water should be shelved where they belong, with the punch or soda, not with the juice and canned vegetables

That's why I love bourbon....it's made with corn, so I get plenty of vegetable servings. :-)

I'll take the sugar, vitamins and other good stuff in OJ over high fructose corn syrup, phosphoric acid and god knows what other crap that is in Coke or Pepsi any day of the week.

Adults love to harp on kids for watching too much tv internet and playing too much videos, but the children aren't the only age group whose lifestyles have changed. As our economy has evolved into office based work, adults get less exercise too. It's virtually impossible for an adult to stay in healthy shape (let alone, "good" shape) without dedicating at least a few hours a week to exercise, which most adults do not. I think it's important to teach kids how to eat for the lifestyle that they're being raised to live.

Agreed, this is what is in my fridge. It's my favorite next to actually breaking out the juicer.

Maybe they should see this as an opportunity to rethink the ridiculous measure of banning food because a bunch of lazy tards are making themselves gigantic by eating three times what they need on a daily basis.

Now when you say "dedicating at least a few hours a week to exercise" you must mean like riding a bike to work, or paddeling arround a lake right?

So a few hours a week is too much for you? Maybe you should look into finding another job. Eating for the lifestyle they are being trained to live? So what you are saying is to write off exercise and eat accordingly? Sounds like a horrible plan to me.

How about instead of vilifying every conceivable food and beverage group we get all our little fatties off the couch and away from tv and video games and onto a bike or maybe a playground once in a while?

Yet somehow, you have a strange, incomprehensible but compelling reason to be there in exactly 26 minutes.
