FTFA: The car sped across a field before plowing into the back of 62-year-old Frederic Bardsley's home.

Look, I know it's South Carolina, and "off-roadin'" is popular among the "good ol' boys," but... a Maserati?

Yer doin' it wrong, John-boy.

85? That's 2nd gear isn't it? If I was his lawyer, I would have tried for the "bringing the car under control while under the influence of aliens" defence.

Wow.

Prior burglary charge, assload of speeding tickets, and oh, yeah, he drove through someone's house driving 50 mph above the speed limit racing with his buddy.

But he's given a lot of money to the community, so he must be a good guy and therefore shouldn't have to pay the consequences of running over someone in his living room.

2009-11-16 09:26:23 PM
From dionada's link:

...and that his Maserati had brake problems that had an appointment with the manufacturer to examine.

Driving a car without the brakes working properly... Sounds like a severe punishment would be in place even if he was driving below the legal speed limit.

That's a pretty idiotic angle to take by way of defense. The guy is loaded - if your brakes are f*cked up, drive something else. Rent a car, get a courtesy, whatever. It's not like he's some single mom with no alternative transportation who has to scrape together the money for an oil change.

ok, I'm not sure if I understand what angle that is. What I meant was that there should be a severe punishment just by driving a car without the brakes working properly. On top of the 100mph stupidity

Say you own a house.

Now, say you live at the end of a street that cars fly down (example being someone who posted in this thread already).

Would it be illegal to line the front of your house with spikes, but encased behind something only breakable by a speeding car?

That way, if they are going to take you out, you might as well take them out with you.

Yeah, you're right.

It just seemed that his lawyer mentioned deer and brake problems as though that somehow lessens his culpability.

I'm all over it for you. I'll see him Thanksgiving (unfortunately). My mother-in-law (who is not Ludwig's mother) keeps telling me what a wonderful guy this douchebag is.

Any other requests?

Why go to all the trouble and risk? Take some long strong piece of metal, like say 20' section of railroad track, and sink them say 16' into the ground. Possibly add some cement to the bottom of each, space them a couple feet apart and cover the outside of each as appropriate to make a decent looking fence for your property.

Should take care of any car, and it's driver, that tries to plow onto your property.
