Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "Destroyed"

Description
: Take a picture of something destroyed. A building after a fire, a partially collapsed abandoned house, a guitar after your last gig, etc.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:

- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Ideally, your photograph should be presented as taken, with as little alteration as possible either digitally in-camera or in your image editor during post-processing. No selectively applied digital effects! No removal or addition of image elements, no spot treatments, and no HDR images, please.

With few exceptions (red-eye removal, sensor or scan dust removal), modifications to the original photograph must be made evenly across the image.
See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.

To have your photo website listed on the Farktography home page, please send your Fark username and url to admin(at)farktography.net and we'll get you up forthwith. (also, indicate if you're willing to share your photographs for use as source images in PhotoShop contests)

- Drop by the Farktography Forum (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)

- Image hosting sites can be found here.

- Stats can be found here.

The short but sad tale of Dirk Henderson: Way back in Look Out Below^ I was desperate for something, anything different so shoot. Being wildly afraid of heights, I thought I would buy something small then shoot it from a reasonable height and not wet my pants in fear. At a Dollar Store I purchased this action figure for $1.99 plus tax. Dirk lived, loved and eventually perished in the course of a short afternoon. His short life left him battered, one leg fallen off and generally bound for the trash can. This ignominious fate was spared Dirk when this theme hit Farktography. Now Dirk, as all good warriors should be, is consigned to the flames, his cheap plastic spirit bound for Valhalla.

Passion in all its forms is a mental thirst, a fever, a torturing unrest. As a fire consumes a magnificent building, reducing it to a heap of unsightly ashes, so are men consumed by the flames of passions, and their deeds and works fall and perish."

Something's gotta go by fire. I figure fire will be a popular means of destruction, but we had such a happy campfire the other night that I couldn't resist. Someone tossed the pullout corner of the Holy Dew fridge thingy in the fire. 2/3:

I failed to get the action shot I wanted, but I hope this suffices. There is still a show of motion in the blocks. Getting the timing right on an unpredictable kid is rather hard. This was one of his less robust attempts at knocking down the block tower. 3/3:

An abandoned homestead in the ghost town of Storrs, Montana. Storrs was a coal mining town from 1902-1908. After a few years of producing poor quality coal, the mine shut down and the inhabitants either moved on to a new mining town, or stayed and attempted ranching and farming. This particular homestead was built after the mine closed, and was briefly home to a cattle ranch. After the mine closed in 1908, the town began slowly dying. In 1910, the town's post office closed. In 1918, the local railroad branch line (Turkey Trail Railroad) quit service to the area.

Currently, the area is starting to grow again, and is an affluent suburb of Bozeman, Mt with many homes and ranches. Many remains of the town are still in the area, including several old homesteads like this one, several barns, the foundation of a large hotel, 50 coke ovens, and numerous open mine shafts still remain. Almost all of the remains are on private property now, but many are visible from public land.

See pictures of Storrs in it's heyday here,

The lady down the street loves pigs. She's got about 57 in her front yard garden. This little fella has seen better days.
(I really wanted to 'accidentally' knock him over for this theme but I was strong and refrained.)
