Ok. Being the Devil's Advocate here: they made fun of her for being deaf, right? It would be fine if they made fun of her for something only she goes through, but they made fun of her for something millions of people go through. She doesn't represent every deaf person, so they are allowed to have a problem about this whole thing.

No one in the world is the only one with their own problem.

so they are allowed to have a problem about this whole thing.

Sure, and they are. But we can also call them overly-sensitive and say they need to take a chill pill. Which we are.

It was offensive because it wasn't funny. At all.

/"Hill Street Jews", on the other hand, was brilliant

Just watched See No Evil, Hear No Evil last night and I was thinking about how they could NEVER make that movie today.

Seth was looking pretty fine on Sunday.

I can't even imagine the abomination they would make doing a remake of that. Please don't give them ideas. Plus all the social taboos that would need to be reworked because certain groups would have a shiat fit if it were done today.

/I like rape

not remake. make. the point was, it couldn't be made today. neither could the exorcist, for that matter.

That funnier than the time Family Guy made fun of Marlee Matlin...

/Do we have that clip? What? No clip?

The comedy special was pretty great. My only disappointment was the "impression of actors going for auditions" segment which was painfully unfunny.

The rest, especially Matlin and the "joke only a rapist can hear," was gold.

Ordinary I like Seth McFarlane & Alex Borstein's humor but the Marlee Matalin bit put me off. I ended up changing channels. Was anybody else put off by it?

Did you at least stay long enough to see her come on stage and make fun of Borstein?

2009-11-10 03:37:22 PM
WHAT?

2009-11-10 03:38:09 PM
People watched that special?

*shudder*

2009-11-10 03:39:36 PM
Thought the whole show was pretty funny (certainly more belly-laughs than some recent FG episodes and probably the whole Cleveland Show run, thusfar).

Left me wondering: these sort of variety shows (Sonny and Cher, Muppets, Johnny Cash Show) have worked before; what are the odds...

Yeah, the "impression of actors going for auditions" segment was pretty bad. I did chuckle at the Kathy Griffin impression, however...

I watched a bit of it to realize the jokes werent funny and it was just a teaser show for upcoming films. Basically, you voluntarily watched a bunch of commercials

Reminded me of sitcoms when the writers get a vacation so they have a 'new' show which ends up being a bunch of flashbacks.

So you mean it was built in on locking in the audience?...............did not get that.

"After all, I have an Oscar and Alex [Borstein], who voiced me, doesn't."

Ha. I like how she's handling this. "Pfff, it's fine, I don't care what people without Oscars say about me. I mean, they're pretty funny, if you like non-Oscar-winning comedy. I guess some people do. But you can't go around getting all bent out of shape every time some Oscarless hack tries to make a funny. That's no way to go through an Oscar-winning life."

/and I'd give her some children from my Lesser God, if you know what I mean

semiotix: /and I'd give her some children from my Lesser God, if you know what I mean

Does that mean that you'd like to have relations of a sexual nature with her?

2009-11-10 03:44:20 PM
I bet she didn't even hear it.

2009-11-10 03:45:23 PM
It's an honest mistake on her part... it's almost impossible to read Peter's lips with that nutsack hanging from his chin.

2009-11-10 03:47:35 PM
Marlee Matlin likely got 100k for 5minutes of work she still might have a problem with it but was paid foe her silence.

scseth: I watched a bit of it to realize the jokes werent funny and it was just a teaser show for upcoming films. Basically, you voluntarily watched a bunch of commercials

uh, there were 2 movie trailer and THAT WAS IT. there were actually fewer commercials than a normal show.

the way Stewie introduced them was a little unconventional though.

/dvr's my way through FOX Sunday night and Amazing Race, flipping back and forth when I catch up to live on one of them.

If she's not careful, she'll get herself ostracized from the deaf community. They take themselves seriously to the extreme, and she would find herself in a world of, well, I guess she'll be alright. Carry on.

2009-11-10 03:52:06 PM
It was in poor taste, and it wasn't funny. Kind of like the show in general.

2009-11-10 03:52:52 PM
Maybe I'm retarded but to me the joke was as much about how we have to deal with automation instead of people and therefore encounter frustration which is always funny.

It wasn't funny because she was deaf. It was funny because not only could it not understand her, it assumed it did and credited her with having made a selection.

Its MUCH funnier when Tucker Max makes fun of deaf people.

Huuurrr...tucker max! (drinks beer)

Bar Skank: What's that?
BG: It's like a long magazine.
Bar Skank: Huh?
BG: Or the internet made out of a tree.
Bar Skank: Thats weird. Do you want to have sex with me in the bathroom?
BG: Oh boy what a treat, Yes, yes I would.

Marlee Matlin is the King of Deaf People.

and, yeah, she's not going to criticize it because they brought her on the show. The only reason in the world they brought her on was to get away with the offensiveness.

2009-11-10 04:11:25 PM
I didn't care for the bits making fun of Margot Kidder either.
/it insisted upon itself.

Heh, yesterday on my commute home here in DC's metro, there was a hideous couple making out on the escalator going down, blocking many commuters wanting to walk down. This of course prompted people yelling at them to get out of the way.

They were Gallaudet students.

Lewd, crude, and loving every minute of it.

I'd hit it, but her signing "Oh god, oh god" the whole time might be distracting.
