Which will be more fun to watch: Texans/Colts or Dolphins/Patriots?

Some good one's today. Ravens/Bengals is the one I am looking forward to the most.

because this worked SO WELL last week (i was for the most part right, except for being spectacularly wrong about Cowboys and one other game. i thought seattle would not just cover, but could possibly beat the cowboys and instead the boys won by like, 17 or some shiat, and teh spread was i think 4. ehhh.

this is also without looking at injury reports. and it just a game, christ. no one talked junk about my picks until after i was wrong.

At Jacksonville -6.5 Kansas City

Jax wins by 10.

Baltimore -3 At Cincinnati

no idea. balt just lost to cincy what, 3 weeks ago? and ciny is i think 2-2 at home. I think Baltimore wins by 3+.

At Indianapolis -8.5 Houston

Indy by 10.

At Atlanta -9 Washington

washington is the only team i actively root against. i love seeing their ineptitude. Atlanta romps. 15 point blowout.

Green Bay -9.5 At Tampa Bay

GB, easily by more than 9.5. TB has no pass rush whatsoever and while the line has been GB's great weakness (broham under center spends more time on his back than madonna did in the 80s) they will crush TB. no way TB covers here.

At Chicago -3 Arizona

anquan boldin hasn't practiced all week, and this game means more to the bears than it does to Arizona, so I bet the team rests boldin. adn the az pass attack is nowher near what it was last year. our top receiver in total catches is teh RB, as a checkdown receiver. but 3? I think Arizona finds a way to win. Our D is pretty good, andt he secondary can trick broham into throwing dumb passes. i bet AZ has at least two INTs, one being a pick six if DRC gets his mitts on the ball.

At New England -10.5 Miami

at NE? what's the weather like? if it is shiatty (under 50degrees) then I think NE romps by like, 12-15. everyone talks about the Wildcat; I said all summer long that the Wildcat worked pretty well in the first half of the season, in part because teams didn't know how to defend it but also because field conditions were ideal for a fast run based attack. we learned last year that when the weather got cold and fields turned to shiat, the wildcat didn't work so well. it is a warm weather offense; that shiat doesn't work on muddy ass, rainy, saturated fields when it is 33 degrees. mark my words on that. i was proven right last year and i'll be again.

At New Orleans -13 Carolina

that's a mighty big number. I think carolina covers, somehow.

At Seattle -10 Detroit

seattle's offense sucks. detroit sucks. but seattle needs to start winning games because Arizona and SF have both shown they don't really want to win the NFC West. I think Seattle wins but not by 10.

At San Francisco-4 Tennessee

4 is the classic "who knows?" spread pick. as i said above, SF nad AZ aren't playing to win the NFC West, but I think SF wins today and handily.

At NY Giants -5 San Diego

Giants are reeling. SD is not the SD we've known for a few years. NYG needs to get right and get right fast, as their wild card chances are sliding away. a loss today would be their 4th. 4th. no way that happens. NYG by 10.

At Philadelphia -3 Dallas

dallas is a really odd team. couple of prettty decent wins, some bad lossses and occasionally bad football. i think philly wins by a TD.

Pittsburgh -3 At Denver

pittsburgh by at least a TD. Denver is gonna finish with 11-12 wins, but they are running into good teams last week and this. i said all summer that the Donkos were the most compelling tema in football because of all the off-season drama, and they've been tearing it up and proving me wrong, as I had them getting out to a 1-4, 2-6 start. but Pittsburgh pretty hungry and this is a chance to make a statement.

Against the NFL's 5th ranked defense? You're high. If the reskins lose (likely) it'll be because of the anemic offense not able to put points on the board, not because the defense suddenly took a vacation.

I like bagging on the Redskins as much as the next Washingtonian (mostly because Snyder is a douchecanoe) but let's stay somewhere in the vicinity of reality, shall we?

(Counterpoint - upon reflection, if all your points come from offensive turnovers, then I'm right there with you)

I meant 4th loss in a row.

i stand by it. i say ATL crushes the Snyderskins.

Of course. The Redskins are HORRIBLE. 5th ranked defense is because they have played the Rams, Lions, Chiefs, Bucs, and Panthers. Not exactly hard to hold those teams down. And still the Skins lost 3 of those 5 games.

There are problems with your logic, but the answer's probably still the same.
1. Currently it is 60° and sunny in Foxborough.
2. Since 2006, Gillette has been turf, because the grass was destroyed repeatedly by having way too many events on it.
3. The Dolphins are 21st in pass defense, and 17th overall. The Pats are 2nd in pass offense and 3rd overall.

The Fins offense will keep it respectable, if they can ever get on the field. Unless, of course, the Pats defense decides to play run defense, in which case Miami'd be screwed.

2009-11-08 11:07:15 AM
FriarReb98: 3. The Dolphins are 21st in pass defense, and 17th overall. The Pats are 2nd in pass offense and 3rd overall.

I think the Fins have played a much tougher schedule than the Pats. They have played the Falcons, Colts, Saints, Jets (when they were good), Jets (when they were average), and Chargers. The only bad team they have played is the Bills, and Bufallo is probably the best bad team in football.

Meanwhile the Patriots have played the Titans and Bucs, which wildly throws of their averages. The Pats have not had an easy schedule, I grant that, but those 2 games have completely skewed their rankings in PF, PA, and those other per game stats. This game should be pretty good.

Wow, the Dolphins made the headline? The Pats should crush them. They have no secondary, and they won by 20 last year w/o Brady.

I'm interested to see how the Pats come out. They haven't played a real game in a month. The last few weeks was like pre-season for them.

Last One Left: Which will be more fun to watch: Texans/Colts or Dolphins/Patriots?

Depends on whether or not the Texans or Patriots play defense. If they both do, Texans will be more fun by virtue of MANNINGFACE. Unless you want to see the Fins fail spectacularly and all, because short of Brady getting injured, I don't see the Pats offense keeping it under 30.

They have been outscored by an average of less than four points per game overall, and by 6, 5, 3, 8 and 10 in their losses. That does not paint the picture of a pending fifteen point blowout.

2009-11-08 11:15:28 AM
The Texans don't have a chance. Why can't i live in a city where sports teams are actually good?

4 defensive starters out for the Colts, including both corners and Bob Sanders.

Texans 41 - Colts 24

Again, those are losses to the Rams, Lions, and Chiefs. You need to multiply those margins b 10 to get a true feeling of how bad it is.

And the Giants and the Eagles, both of whom have better and higher-scoring offenses than the Falcons, and neither of whom beat the Skins by the margin that was predicted above.

I don't think it will be a blow out either. The Redskins have a very good defense.

I think McNabb goes down today with a case of Turf Mangina.

Week 9 Picks.

Record to date:
79-37 straight (7-6 last week)
63-53 vs spread (6-7 last week) (median of three contests)
15-9 best bets (0-3 last week) (three picks each week)

This week's best bets:
Colts -9: This season is a great story for the Texans, the first time they have a legitimate team. But they ain't the Colts. Indy by 14.

Cardinals +3: Arizona bounces back from a hideous loss with an important road win. Cards by 6.

Packers -9.5: The winless Suckaneers are out of the game by halftime. Packers by 17.

I resisted the urge to lay a best bet on the Broncos as underdogs again having been burned last week, but I do like them to win on Monday night.

Survivor pick (if I weren't out of all my survivor pools): Atlanta.

As a panthers fan, all I have to say is that it sounds about right.

Seriously though, Jake has been improving. We've won a few games, and Delhomme's looked almost like what most QBs do when they have a bad day. And the running game has taken hold again, and that's what we're good at.

I honestly think they'll cover the spread. I don't think they'll win, but they have a pretty good chance to make it closer then that.

As a Cowboys fan it pains me to say go with Thomas. Barber has been losing touches. So is Thomas, but he still looks like he's the number one back for the Saints. Saints should also get a big lead early and try to kill the clock. That's my gut feeling.

Yeah Barber's been a bit iffy, Thomas has been the more solid option lately despite the whole NO RB situation.

Also helps that I have Jones-Drew and Benson (my sleeper came up perfect!) for my RB spots.
