John Corabi is probably available.

And Judas Priest. But Steven Tyler isn't gay, so this is a whole new bag of rocks. Isn't it?

Hobodeluxe: they should have another show like they did for INXS.

No one can replace Michael. They should've just hung it up...

Good news: Steven Tyler might be leaving Aerosmith, and thus ending one of the longest running vortexes of suck in the history of music. Bad news: Steven Tyler might be leaving Aerosmith to make a solo album, thus adding to the greater vortex of suck that is contemporary rock music.

Gary Cherone is waiting for Areosmith's call

Owen may have been a replacement, but a soundalike? Not even close.

When what's-his-nuts replaced Phil, not so much.

Except for Hagar replacing DLR I can't think of a good example of where this has actually worked. Aerosmith got lucky once coming back, there's no chance it will happen again.

Does this count for singers that have died? Because I think Brian Johnson has done a damn fine job of filling the void left by Bon Scott for AC/DC. He may not be the same as Bon, but he's got his own way of kicking ass.

Well, since Robert Plant doesn't want to sing for Led Zeppelin and Tyler and Aerosmith are having a spat, let them switch bands.

Then both can suck equally but we'll have 2 things to point and laugh at.

they can't replace st because he is aerosmith without steven tyler, they'd have to change their name.

Actually, it has worked pretty well for both Journey and Styx. The bands get to keep playing the 70s and 80s hits to folks who are too drunk to tell the difference. So everyone's happy (except for Dennis and Steve, who want back in).

What? No "Celebrity Death Pool" jokes? You guys disappoint me.

Yes, Carol Channing is still alive - she looks healthier than Tyler.

A youtube search might not be a bad idea. That, and a drug test might be all MR Perry would require.

That guy in Journey does sound like their old singer, but he's annoying to listen to because he interjects over the lyrics too much.

"C'mon! Let me hear ya! Awright! Oh yeah!"

Shut up and sing, asshole.

And, arguably, Alice in Chains.

It's not the same, but William DuVall did an excellent job on Black Gives Way to Blue.

You know, I don't have a problem when undead bands (i.e. those bands which produce no new music and merely wander around touring for their fans) replace the singer with a sound-alike. They're playing gigs for nostalgia or for fans who are too young to have seen them in their prime and content to see even a shadow of the former glory. I for one would love to see Zeppelin live, even if it's basically a cover band.

What I dislike are bands that don't know they're dead (I'm looking at you U2).

2009-11-07 01:24:42 PM
Yeah well, Steven Tyler looks like someone's grandmother. Joe Perry and the rest of the band can get on without him.

Jethro Tull agrees.

Maybe he just got sick of Aerosmiths music. I mean, I've listened to it a whole lot less than he has, and well, I can't stand it. I can only imagine what he thinks of it.

No matter what Aerosmith --or Journey or Styx or INXS-- do, it'll never top the embarrassment of my boys Emerson, Lake & Palmer not being able to agree on stuff with Carl Palmer and replacing him with Cozy Powell. The one album was pretty good, actually and the tour was terrific, but still.

This.

And it didn't work for Journey and Boston cause they were 20 years past their prime by the time they tried it.

Also going on right now is two former members of the Grateful Dead have recruited a Garcia-like musician from the country's biggest grateful dead cover act. The new band is called Furthur.

Too bad they couldn't hire someone who could teach the Youngs to write songs about stuff besides what a kick ass rock n roll band they are.

Yeah it can get kind of annoying. I just got the "Live In Manila" DVD and although I enjoyed it, I think I still prefer Steve Augeri. Saw him on tour with them in '99 and also on the "Live - 2001" DVD and thought he was great.

/didn't realize what a decent voice Deen Castronovo has either

Worked for Iron Maiden.
Didn't work for Black Sabbath.
Worked for AC/DC.
Didn't work for Alice in Chains.
Worked for Deep Purple.
Didn't work for The Doors.

Luck of the draw, but Aero without Tyler will be about as popular as a Hot Carl at a wedding reception.

If only aging musical acts were able to call it quits when it was time to call it quits, they would be remembered as more than financially needy has-beens.

Yes it did. Dio is a better singer than Ozzy and the Black Sabbath albums he did are far more interesting than the majority of the early Sabs with Ozzy (with a couple of exceptions). I'll grant you early Sabs pioneered a sound emulated by many. But having seen both interations of the band several times I stand by my statements.

This would really make me mad, especially because I missed their show because that klutz fell off the stage. Finish that last tour you farker.

Doctor Jan Itor: Worked for Van Halen. Discuss.

I don't know about that... Gary Cherone got the thumbs down from critics and consumers alike. Plus, the band let him go after one album. I personally don't think the album was terrible, but the one I'd least likely listen to. It had poor production and while some of the songwriting was creative, especially "From Afar" and "Year to the Day", some of the songs were completely devoid of hooks. I mean, what is up with "Dirty Water Dog" and "Ballet of the Bullet"? Geez, those shouldn't even make a "B-sides" album. Refreshing change from the überslick and formulaic "Balance", but, I don't know, I wish they had stuck it out with Sammy. Wasn't the 1998 tour cut short due to low ticket sales? I gotta say, switching up the lead singer did not work for Van Halen. Sorry to humbly disagree!
