Nick Nostril: reveal101: Just to point out, gun control in Canada isn't that much stricter (really) than in the U.S.

My point? The USA has a cultural problem with guns and gun usage.

Plus we're not all drunk, frozen, or watching hockey all the time.

Although I would trade McDonalds for Timmy's on every corner.

Let me get this straight.

The police are looking for a latino in an SUV wearing jeans and a polo shirt, in Florida?

Yeah... good luck with that.

Brainwash: Not wanting to lose the title of most batsh*t crazy state in the US, Florida gunman goes on a rampage in an office building. At least 8 shot, 2 possibly dead

Admittedly, Texas has been looking hard to beat the last few years.

It's been neck and neck between these two states for as long as I can remember.

Arizona might make a run at the title soon, Sheriff Joe might run for governor.

Kome: If you want a gun and are using the 2nd amendment as a justification, form a militia. Your right to do so under the 2nd amendment is not being trampled if we put restrictions on gun ownership the likes of Britain or Japan.

On the other hand, my right to live probably trumps your right to own a gun and go batsh*t crazy like the guy today and the guy yesterday. If there were ever a conflict between the two, I'd go with "live" over "gun ownership."

Now stop trolling and watch the news. I still can't in touch with my friend who works in that area and it's pissing me the crap off.

1) Once again....the original intent of The Second Amendment was based upon the premise that all able-bodied males are part of the militia. Of course, with passing legal decisions, we now have laws that realize men and women share the same rights.

2) If I have to turn in my firearms to the government, yes it is. (Look what has aleady happened to gun owners in California.)

3) Of course you have a right to live, but just because I'm a gun owner doesn't put your life in danger. It's not like my firearms sneak out at night and shoot people. I alone am responsible for my behavior, and that doesn't change because some crazy fark went on a shooting spree.

4) I'm not farking trolling, I just happen to support a very important right.

5) I hope your friend is okay.

Human rights stand the test of time.

You are aware that the other amendments have changed (or rather, law has been changed based on interpretation) and civilization hasn't collapsed, right?

If you want a gun and are using the 2nd amendment as a justification, form a militia.

Because meaningful dialouge just doesn't pack the same punch as a .357 to the groin.

You know what we ought to do. We ought to pass a law that says you can't use a gun to kill a lot of people. I think that would make sense, as laws go. I mean, that would prevent a lot of these shootings from happening, passing a law that makes it illegal to use a gun to go around killing people.

Because right now, as soon as someone gets a gun, they start killing people left and right, and it's just becoming a problem.

People who just get depressed and go postal usually don't scour the black market for guns, or even have those kind of connections. criminals will still get guns, spur of the moment crazies who shoot up office buildings and schools will not.

AdolfOliverPanties: I say if you are 18 or over, you should be required to carry a firearm at all times in public.

I know you're being sarcastic, but something like that has been tried, and to the chagrin of anti-gun folks everywhere it worked pretty damn well. Look up Kennesaw, GA, AKA "Gun City, USA". Basically, as long as you are legally able to, and can't come up with a damn good reason not to, you are required to be armed. Their crime rate went from above the nat'l average to well below in just a couple years. And no, they aren't all walking around afraid of each other, the only folks that are scared are the criminals. Which is how it should be.

/Huh. That ended up being a much longer reply than I intended.

Also, I'd like to put my vote/wager in for "was denied unemployment/severance/some kind of settlement from ex-employer."

If he hasn't worked there for years (I realize this has not been verified, but if the talking heads on cable can speculate wildly, why can't I?) but just got around to shooting up the place, this suggests something recently happened that really pissed him off and that removed any options for redress, so he decided to get the last word, so to speak.

Kinda surprised it's not happening more often. Maybe another year, when more people's unemployment has run out.

Lollerwaffle: Does this huge influx of violence scare the shiat out of anybody else in our country? I am only 21. I don't know if it was like this when older generations were growing up. Perhaps it was, but just not widespreadly reported because they didnt run news 24-7 back then. Either way, it's a big issue, and I can't grasp why we aren't getting psych type people in schools to teach our kids nonviolent conflict resolution, and doing everything we farking can to figure out what makes people do these awful things and find a way to fix it.

Are they required to undergo firearms training and regular practice? I'd think that having an armed, but untrained, population would be a recipe for disaster.
