They'd be better off spending their money on bullet-proof.

Vests.

/Whoops.

Hopefully the health care workers who administer the vaccine to the fat cats will make them bend over and take the little pricks in the ass.

Turnabout is fair play.

See? They really are better than we vermin.

2009-11-06 09:11:15 AM
If only we had known earlier they were such high risk. We certainly wouldn't have given them any money.

2009-11-06 09:15:42 AM
No, it's distributed to their company nurses, and, presumably, those doses go to their employees in the "high risk" pools. (Pregnant women, young 'uns, vice presidents...)

Sounds like Morgan Stanley donated their vaccines to area hospitals..like Morgan Stanley's Children's Hospital. I think that's a good thing, but I'm not sure. I like conspiracies..

Could some one please explain to me why this H1N1 thing is such a big deal?

2009-11-06 09:16:42 AM
If they weren't high-risk before, they are now.

2009-11-06 09:16:42 AM
Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) asked Health and Human Service (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to investigate why the Center for Disease Control (CDC) approved the distribution of the H1NI vaccine to Wall Street firms at a time when the vaccine is unavailable to most Americans.

Because those people are better than you.
Get used to it, you whiny poor people.

(Troll, troll, troll your thread...)

The complaints about the distribution of swine flu vaccine reminds me of the joke from Annie Hall

-The food was terrible.
-Yes. And such small portions.

And the Santayana joke:

-There is no God and Mary is His mother.

Which are both variants of the famous Groucho Marx gag about not wanting to belong to any club that "would have me as a member."

If you guys don't want the vaccine, let it drop already.

All those companies are based in New York City. If you've been here, you know how tightly packed in we are, and our food is frequently handled by people without health insurance and who can't afford to take a sick day. Living in one of the five boroughs, especially Manhattan or Brooklyn, should probably be its own risk category. For everything.

Well, both articles only ever state that we gave them to the companies... which isn't a horrible idea. I assume we gave them to the companies to administer to certain individuals.

Obviously, they probably did vaccinate the higher-ups since they only gave the companies a couple hundred vaccines, but you can't exactly ASSUME that.

Rich people usually manage to get a better quality of service from most agencies, government agencies included. You can't really whine about it when they get it from a private agency, but when they get it from a public agency that we all were compelled to pay into on the promise of equal treatment, yeah, you can whine. And yeah, this will happen under a public health insurance option, and it will happen when healthcare is ultimately completely socialized.

Not only is the injection completely safe, afterwards you won't need to carry around your passport or credit cards anymore. It's true.

I picked up that crap working at emergency. The last couple weeks have been nuts, everyone with sniffles has been coming in.
And I did have the vaccine- but found out the hard way it takes a week or two before it actually protects you from getting the flu.
Mostly, this just leaves your chest sore from coughing, and leaves you about as full of energy as a dead mackeral.
/off work for seven days due to health regs
//not enough energy to look at porn, dammit...

GOP rightwinger pretending not to back Big Business to score points.

Sure. That's believable.

So, you're ready to bring back all the regs that let the meltdown happen, eh? Ready to reaffirm the necessity of government regulations and the well-ordered society? Ready to admit to being a liberal, are you?

MDGeist: Could some one please explain to me why this H1N1 thing is such a big deal?

It isn't. I have the crap right now, it's not a _debilitating_ flu, but does suck more than any one I have had in the last 20 years.

The places where it's much different, is more lung pain, and oddly spaced runs. No nausea, just the runs.

The supposed danger of it, is it revs up your immune system if you are healthy instead of just trying to avoid it. So, if you are pregnant or young and tough, it's much worse for you.

I thank my local bartender for helping me keep my immune system out of whack.

I just saw a fantastic commercial that ends with a tagline something like, "If the Government can't handle the flu, can it really handle our health care?"

It was full of WIN.

MDGeist: Could some one please explain to me why this H1N1 thing is such a big deal?

Because the mortality rate for seasonal flu is like 0.1%, and H1N1's mortality rate could potentially be triple that. Oh noes!!! That's 0.3%. That's as many as three thousandths. And that's terrible.

Actually, the government handles the vaccine because private health care won't do it. No money, too much liability. That's why we have so many uninsured and underinsured. Can't make any money off them, so screw 'em.

Deaths from h1n1 have already matched the normal death rate for the entire flu season. It takes a different vaccine than the normal flu virus.

It is more debilitating than the normal flu.

It is contagious.

It kills children.

You would be a fool not to get it if you are in a high risk group.
