Tuck in your tie, you goober. You own an NFL team for pete's sake.

Why sad? LA football hasn't been successful for political reasons, not because LA residents don't want a team to root for.

Unless it's sad that they're leaving Jacksonville, in which case ... me.

Why does Florida need three teams anyway?

California has three, but is almost triple the size of Florida, with no team in it's largest city.

Welcome Jaguars!

Glad you fixed that - I was about to ask, "Yeah? What about you?"

I for one always wondered how Jacksonville got a team in the first place, even if it is the biggest city in Florida. If they wanted to keep the team somewhat local, I wonder if the Jags would have more success in Orlando?

I was just in LA last weekend and some friends told me that Arnie had approved a new stadium, something that had kept the Rams and the Raiders from staying ... so, if it happens, they're probably there to stay.

I hope they change their name to the Cougars if that happens

Why does anyone need any teams? This isn't about NEED.

And I'd be really sad if any of my teams were moved. I'm not sure what level of devastated I'd feel if the Cowboys.... ohgod.... I can't even type it.... it's too awful.

Better solution: Axe the team (along with another that no one cares about, like the Redskins). Realign the conferences so there are three divisions in each. Done and done, and you fix some of the problems with the playoffs.

What is ad about this? Florida does not deserve three teams.

Sending them to LA kinda sucks. Send them to Alabama or Virginia or some state that doesn't have any teams.

I feel the same way. I would probably kill myself if the farking Cowboys moved to my state.

I dunno, a lot of us who live in LA moved here from other places. Even if they bring a new team here I won't automatically become a fan. Gotta stay true to the Bills.

//but what if it's the Bills that move here? hmm...

I think it makes sense for Jacksonville to move to San Antonio (AFC South) and for the St Louis Rams to move back to LA (NFC West). It makes sense for California to have 4 teams, Texas to have 3, and Florida to have 2. The people of San Antonio love football, it's the 8th biggest city, and they sell out Cowboys practices for Christ sake. LA obviously needs a team but they already had two and they left, so what does that say about LA?

Two greenlit articles about how the Jags can't sell out a game? C'mon mods, there's got to be more sports stuff in the queue than that.

hrough three games in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, the Jaguars have played to 68.3 percent capacity
========================================================

That's pretty pathetic. In football, there's 8 home games a year. If you can't sell out a home game, I don't care how bad you suck as a team... your city hates football. Its time to go someplace else.

This day has been surprisingly light on non-beisbol sport. Something about a shooting something somewhere I imagine.

I grew up when both the Raiders and the Rams were in the L.A. area, the Rams for a time literally down the street from me. Maybe it was my upbringing, but I always gave more of a rat's ass about NCAA football than NFL. I think quite a few Southlanders agree, maybe especially now, since a new generation has been raised with no pro team in the region. (One might claim the Chargers, but really?)

I know the Jaguars stink but I'm pretty sure they pay their players more than minimum wage...

/No?

I think they should move to Vegas. Considering seasonality, it would make a much better pro sports choice than a baseball team (an idea which has been tossed around before). With a current population of nearly 2 million for the Las Vegas metropolitan area plus a metric assload of tourists, they would have no problem making money.

It's for the exact reason Waltzing Mathilda said, that and there were two owners who didn't give a damn about their fans or LA. We liked both teams, and watching football here in LA is great. I remember as a kid going to tailgates before a game in LA. It wasn't perfect, but nothing is.

But when you have arguably the worst duo of owners EVER in one city in Georgia Frontiere and Al Davis wouldn't you want to stop supporting them too?

Al Davis wore out his welcome with the "I want luxury boxes at the Coliseum or I'll move" mantra.

Georgia was just Georgia....need I say more about her?

LA City and county officials were not going to play the game, combined with the Coliseum commission.

Anaheim was just alienated by Georgia.

It's not the teams, it's the owners.

Google it yourself.

Bye.

Furthermore, any new team coming into LA would have to compete with the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Ducks, Kings, and USC football for people's entertainment dollars. Any new team coming to Vegas would have to compete with UNLV football and the Las Vegas 51s (AAA team for the Toronto Blue Jays).

2009-11-05 08:35:38 PM
Not Vegas.

Maybe you didn't hear about *sports gambling*.

The leagues don't want any sense of fixed outcomes...despite belief to the contrary.

Bye.

I'm not disputing this at all. My point is just that no one NEEDS an NFL team in their city. I do agree with you that if a community cannot support their teams, they should go elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure that the stadium in Los Angeles was all privately funded... and the ownership group will pay the relocation and team costs... not sure where you're getting your tax information.

Or, perhaps, they have 3 teams because their Metropolitan property values were incredibly cheap, making the installation of new teams almost effortless, regardless of the enthusiasm of the locals.

Fixed that for you. The Clippers and the hockey teams would be negligible competition, and the Dodgers and Angels play during the summer.

C'mon down, Jags. We could call you the California Mountain Lions -- they actually kill a couple of people a year out here.

I can't wait for the Jags to move to LA (as long as they stay in the AFC). I'll be first in line to buy season tickets. It's killing me living out here with no football games to go to.

jacksonville is pretty cool. i've lived here for about 5 years and i have thoroughly enjoyed it more than living in other areas of the south. there's a lot to do, you're in close proximity to some great camping and fishing, and we have more bars than you can visit in one month.

what does kinda suck about it is the redneck mentality that spills over from georgia (and yes, the rest of florida, i'm not ignorant to that), the huge distances between different areas of jax and the re-freakin-diculous driving habits of the locals.

all that said, the jaguars pretty much suck as an organization, not just a halfass football team. watching the jaguars play is about as much as trying on cardboard contact lenses.

/garrard over the middle, incomplete... (repeat 20 times and you get the idea)

LA is a proven loser in the NFL's eyes, so I doubt the Jags will move. They'll stay in a city oblivious to their performance, and draft Tebow with their top three pick, but the brief spike in attendance will quickly fade when he's exposed as a great college player lacking NFL-caliber skills.

2009-11-05 09:19:57 PM
But I thought they were moving to London.
