People were filling out deploy paperwork...

PanicMan: demonfaerie: They claim they are doing more to prevent ptsd, but if they are actually doing what they are claiming I have no idea. Got to ask Bob Woodruff on that one.

I've had to go through some of the same training that soldiers go through (I'm an Army civilian). There's required training on PTSD and it's effects and how to help the person. And they hand out "flash cards" on what to look for, and how to help.

But any kind of mental issue is often felt as a weakness, even when it's correctable. So soldiers are sometimes resisitant to admit they need help.

I can see that and at least they give out cards to help, but do they go further to say it is not a weakness to get help? I have watched a special where soldiers who were injured either with or without ptsd was told that they can get an honorable discharged for being injured in this certain way (can't remember what it was called sorry) that they could, and most did so they can be with their families to get better or was sick of the army after get hurt. Anyways if they were later found out to have ptsd by a shrink that wasn't from the army, they couldn't claim it and get vet benefits at all. So they were kind of screwed over. No idea if anything it true or is still today, but it was very interesting.

fireclown: Jamespoon: I bet it's just pissed off white guys, just like in Oklahoma City, just like in Columbine, just like in Atlanta.

That's right. You can tell because of the excellent marksmanship.

What Atlanta Shooting? Brian Nichols was a black guy.

ravenlore, thanks for the link. I'm particularly interested in how smaller PDs handle active shooter situations, even when they aren't directly involved.

Sounds like Killeen is calling in additional patrol officers and double manning their units.

This happened because there was too little gun control.
This happened because of violent video games.
This happened because of violent TV shows.
This happened because of the liberals.
This happened because of the conservatives.
This happened because of illegal immigration.

That's still my speculation, although why 2 gunmen?

CNN has bumped the death toll up to 9.

Because he's an attention whore?

Just curious, but why doesn't "the right to bear arms" apply to swords and such?

2009-11-05 04:27:39 PM
It's getting on the base that's the easy part. Getting off an Army base is a whole other kettle of fish.

PD feed just said Transporting 1 male to the jail from WalMart.

I'm assuming not necessarily related

Pffft, if the guy was wearing oak leaves then it he can't actually be military. A real Major would have told some dumb fark to do the shooting and the walked around with a mug full of coffee, feeling self-important.

Now reporting shots fired at a soldier's residence.

I hate to say it but...nice.

Jamespoon: I don't know more than the next guy right now, but I'm ready to laugh at everyone who is jumping on the "jihadist" bandwagon BS. What is this, 2002?

I bet it's just pissed off white guys, just like in Oklahoma City, just like in Columbine, just like in Atlanta.

And just like it always is every other time some right wing nutcase decides to act out, and everyone races to blame the Muzzies.

Sean Hannity just reported that the FBI says terrorism is not suspected... and naturally went on to imply that he doesn't believe them.

tgregory: zootsuit: buh buh but don't guns prevent gun violence? I'm confused.

yeah, because no one dies in wars that have guns, either. dumbass.

you don't think a police officer in a police station could take down a few cops before being taken out by other cops?

if all of the people on base were disarmed the killers would've probably killed plenty more. i'm sure you would've enjoyed that.

Now this is fark!

/left satisfied.

Hang On Voltaire: punchaprep: I hate to say this but Hopefully this will do something for the Soldiers and Veterans who are battling with PTSD.

How do you know it was a soldier much less a soldier suffering from PTSD?

Because if you were a soldier you would have seen this shiat coming from a mile away. But if it turns out to be a Jihad or just crazy civilians then I'm wrong but I wouldn't be surprised to see more incidents like this to come from Soldiers

These little incidents are WHY we should bear arms.

Yeah, too bad all those Texas Liberals and Soldiers took all everyone's guns away. Otherwise there wouldn't have been a shooting.

Yeah.. Surprised it didn't get all swordy and knifey like all the other countries and cities that don't have guns..

bugdog: Sounds like Killeen is calling in additional patrol officers and double manning their units.

For once I'm glad that tool of an ex in-law down there has a state issued weapon. Although it amuses me to picture him if he'd been on bike duty today.

Yes, my cousin's ex husband is a bike cop. A 300 lb bike cop. In Killeen, Texas.

jpbreon: demonfaerie: AirForceVet: OK, let's round up the usual suspects for this tragedy. Votes anyone?

(A) Disgruntled Army soldiers;
(B) Domestic terrorists;
(C) Foreign terrorists; or
(D) Military dependents?

I am going to go with A. There has been a lot of media about how the military isn't taking care soldiers with ptsd or watching out for signs it or just finding excuses to kick them out. Think I saw it on Dateline or 20/20.

Agreed. If this is a PTSD event, there will be questions. PTSD is the under reported injury of this war.

The very definition of PTSD is that it's under-reported. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

There was an instance at Ft Bragg (NC) maybe 10 -12 years ago, some pissed off soldier started shooting at airborne troops doing PT. Some of the squads (unarmed) advanced on the shooter's position and overpowered him.

Moral is, don't shoot at soldiers doing PT, they're already in a bad mood.

shroom: But I thought shootings never happened amongst a well-armed population?

Military bases operate under the "federal facilities" rules where guns are not allowed except to on-duty LEOs or to soldiers on the range. So yes, this was in a relatively unarmed location. The percentage of people carrying guns in Waco is far higher than on Fort Hood.

2009-11-05 04:30:37 PM
Fox News is reporting that last night was Meatloaf and Salisbury Steak night on base.

2009-11-05 04:30:41 PM

CitizenTed: Go live in the UK, watch the BBC news on TV, then come back home and watch CNN or Fox. It's like day and night. It's not even a contest. American broadcast news is pathetic.

Hell, stay home in the US and listen to the BBC World Service on the radio, you'll notice the same thing. Their normal interviewers aren't afraid to ask uncomfortable questions either, which is a large part of the charm.

demonfaerie: I can see that and at least they give out cards to help, but do they go further to say it is not a weakness to get help?

Dunno about the military itself, but even living in a non-military town our public bus system has ads inside showing a soldier in front of a flag with a big message about how it's actually the STRONG thing to do to reach out for help, if you or a relative who served is having problems adjusting please call this number, etc etc.
