Take the Slauson cut-off, get out of your car, cut off your slauson, get back in your car, and continue to Sepulveda.

I remember once getting into an argument over whether it was more correct to call a 3 pronged fork a 3 pronged fork or a threek.

It clearly can't be both.

Who is the bigger drone ... the procedural bureaucrat, or the prankster who thinks objectifying an ancient pun is somehow creative?

Stop calling it guerrilla art. It's not a Central American revolutionist with a cheap rifle. It's some losers running around with Che Guevara T-shirts and they can't wait to come forth and take the credit for it and cheapen a good idea.

Did they bother getting out of their pajamas before they did it?

Dirtybird971: That joke/concept is older than the man it's proported to honor.

That's the first thing I thought. I was a little surprised to read all the 'wow, that's great!' type comments.

FTFA - It turns out the fork is an elaborate - and expensive - birthday prank in honor of the 75th birthday of Bob Stane, founder of the Ice House comedy club, who now owns the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena.

I say it should stay. It's a neat visual pun, it makes a great landmark for anyone who is lost and, frankly, the picture indicates the area could use a little something.

In the article it sounds like no one's really complaining about it. That almost seems strange.

Apparently The Muppet Movie was released about 3 months after I was born. That must be why I don't remember it. >_>

"It's not a public danger - unless someone drives into it."

That's why it's probably gone as soon as a Caltrans lawyer notices. There are safety standards for objects near the highway and the fork probably doesn't meet them.

Telephone poles are exempt for some reason. I have seen a guard rail placed behind a pole. The rail protects drivers from hitting the bridge structure, which is the DOT's responsibility. It does not protect them from the pole, which is somebody else's problem.

The gentleman for whose birthday this was created, Bob Stane, is a friend of mine (I have taken photos of his place, Coffee Gallery Backstage, and some of the performers who have appeared there), so when I heard about this I ran over there and took some photos for him.
