Footnotes to youtube video URLs are frickin' hysterical and I'll never take them seriously.

/I'm reserving any more commentary until I actually read the PDF but expect something along the lines of "it's not a real instrument since it doesn't allow for any new music to be created or any expressive changes in pre-written music (think of how a virtuoso classical musician can play a 100 year old piece radically different than another contemporary)"

That being said I completely agree that the criticism of it being "the rock experience without the work" is actually it's greatest strength as well.

She has a real appreciation for the experience of Guitar Hero as a radical change in the way people listen to music. She talks about how things like Freddie Wong's videos ("How Guitar Hero was meant to be played")demonstrate the true creative potential unleashed by the games.

// I like that word-- "schizophonic" referring to "the split between a sound and its electroacoustic reproduction in a soundscape."

Since when are college music professors supposed to find the cures for cancer, shingles, or Britney Spears? Hell, Britney Spears was already set upon the world LONG before she had a chance to go to college.

Smitty here. The author of the article is a good friend of mine (so I'm getting a kick &c). No lashing out, just exercising the Fark meme-scape for purposes of link approval. Looks like it worked!
