Thanks for helping us get Windows 7 out in a timely fashion...SEE YA!
I wonder how many of the 800 know where the security holes in Windows 7 are and how they will use that information.

I wonder how many who did utilize that information would go to jail? At least they'd have a free place to stay and free meals and TV.

So which divisions could it be? With Windows 7 and Server 2008R2 out, maybe a few less developers. Does the Zune division make money? Office 2010 division is probably safe along with Visual Studio 2010 teams. Maybe Azure's shipping container server farms are leading to less people needed to watch their servers.

If they're dumb enough to get caught they probably shouldn't have been hired in the first place.

Microsoft is just giving them the opportunity to broaden their experience in the industry by finding new jobs... something Apple would never do. Linux, on the other hand, doesn't have employees, so you know it can't be good. Just like why I buy Norton Antivirus. You have to pay for the good stuff.

WHOA WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! man, its kinda' nice to see billy tighten that belt a little.

the ironic thing is that the more a company lays off people, the higher its stock price goes because employees are the single biggest cost of any business.

course, in the long run, that will bite you in the ass. just ask GM. they fired their middle class employees who could afford to buy their cars. oooppss.

down with employees!!!! frkkkk 'em! its all about my stock prices now!

Because we're wondering just what these 800 people were doing that they can now be let go.

yea, well, if the Monopoly$oft OS was designed as well as UNIX/Linux, then it would not need antivirus....

and Linux hosts more web sites than any other OS in the world, so don't say that Linux is not as exposed to malware as windows is. sorry, but that excuse ran out of steam a long time ago....

and besides, all the 800 employees need to do is reboot.

If Linux was as prolific as Microsoft then it would likely have the same amount of viruses.

I think that was his point with the "hosts more web sites than any other OS in the world" thing.

No, far from it.

Word is most of the affected came from MSN (fallout from the Yahoo deal?), with minor impacts to two other groups. Check the minimsft blog for more detail.
