I love this show, but the last season was getting a little thin. I can see how this series would require an enormous amount of creative energy to do well, and if it can't be done well then it really should just be let go.

2009-11-04 09:48:33 AM
fark. That is really bad news, the second series was even better than the first.

Stop being lazy sods, guys! Just say you'll take your time and you'll have one in two years instead.

There's only one thing I can do now to express my frustration.

2009-11-04 09:55:39 AM
Meh. The standup is far superior to the scripted show. I'd rather see them put out a solid special once a year.

This news...is not very good! HBO...is not very good!

I've got hurt feelings, hurt feelings.

I have the BBC FOTC Radio sessions...its mildly amusing but the show is alot better.

OH MAN! Ive seen it before, but I just realized the saxophone player is Eugene, the landlord.

He plays the steel drums in season 2 and has some talking parts, but I just realized its him!

2009-11-04 10:22:32 AM
We'd better discuss this. Band meeting.

2009-11-04 10:28:42 AM
Okay, band meeting, issue 1: Haircuts. Tatsuma needs one. It's getting long.

2009-11-04 10:30:35 AM
Present. What if I try to put some gel?

I know youre a Fark hero, but I just saw your profile for the first time. You have an AWESOME taste in music...I know this because we listen to the same things.

I see Jenny Lewis, but you need to check out Jeffrey Lewis (no relation).

No no, the hair's got to go. You look like an Australian.

You look like a girl - like that that all-girl rock band, what's it called? Led Zeppelin.

Damn, I can even hear that in Murray's voice.

Ha, I read that in Murray's voice.

And Tatsuma,

I know you're a legend here but I just saw your profile for the first time. You have an AWESOME taste in music. I know this because I have the same taste. The Microphones/Mount Eerie are my favorite and were the inspiration for my tattoo (Pic in Profile), but Jeffrey Lewis (no relation to Jenny) is missing. If you love The Microphones, and The Smiths and all those mopey singer-songwriters, Jeffrey Lewis will be your next favorite. Email me if you are interested in guidance to his music.

I do like the things that revolve around the show itself, as far as the stories being set up.

But, I will agree, when they try to bring something in that they did in standup into the show, it doesn't seem nearly as good or funny in the show as it does in the standup. A perfect example is "Business Time".

I think a lot of it is the "theatrics" in doing the show and setting up the shots, etc, detract from the act. When you just get the humor of the song itself, and how they deliver it live, it comes over as much more amusing.

Which brings up issue 2: Band members dating other band members' girlfriends. I'm looking at you, Hender. You get a love triangle - you know? Fleetwood Mac situation. Well, there there was four of them, so more of a love square. But you know, no one gets on.

2009-11-04 10:44:49 AM
Mind you, they did make some of their best music back then.

2009-11-04 12:02:26 PM
Why not just cut back the songs to a few episodes? The humor of the show doesn't always come from the songs, but their adventures in New York and their foibles. Sure, the songs are funny, but I never saw them as being really integral to the whole show.

Try a third season with less songs and just more situations. It could work wonderfully.

I am more excited that Eastbound and Down is coming back for a second season.

What season was Part Time Model (new window)?
One the very best.

Yep I wouldn't mind fewer songs at all. The show would still be good.

I'm sad, but I'm kind of glad. Seemed like something that would get boring pretty quickly, even though i thought Season 2 was better than the first.

That's what they do though ... songs, that is.

True Blood is the only reason to watch HBO, Conchords suck and won't be missed. Entourage blows. The rest is just boxing specials and wore out old movies.

Aw, damn. The show is way funnier than the songs. I mean, the songs are funny, but all but the strongest really benefit from the context the show puts them in.

The Angry Hand of God: I am more excited that Eastbound and Down is coming back for a second season.

Hell farkin yeah! With Eastbound and True Blood HBO will keep me happy, even without Conchords, which was never as good as True Blood or Eastbound anyway.

They should do what Extras did, and end it with a 90 minute film.

I feel that this show wasn't on long enough for me to truly ignore it properly.

I'm getting into Bored to Death - funny stuff
Entourage isn't that good
I like Curb your enthusiasm but need to limit myself to a couple shows a week anything more it starts to get tired.
Conchords has it's moments a few of the last shows I have seen are so-so. Someone said it earlier, I would rather an hour special every now and then.

They did write some of their best music during that time.

Rumors.

No, it is all true.

FotC season two was not very good. There were a few good episodes SugarLumps, Fashion Is Danger and You Don't Have to Be a Prostitute were probably the high spots.

The songs and setups of season 1 were much much better. Its better to have fewer well crafted shows than water down the insanity that is this show.

POSING A THREAT (best song of the season)

As someone who saw them live this past April, I say the more time devoted to touring the better. Great show!

Thank god.

Another public rejection of the hipster culture.

I feel sad to hear that they probably aren't coming back, but I think most fans of the band and show knew that they didn't have time to do both well enough for either of them.

They put on a great great great live show, and I'd rather have them touring and writing awesome new songs than work on the TV show.

Also, they need to do a video for A Man By The Name of Stana (new window). That was hilarious.

What? The 4th most popular New-Zealand based folk duo is a cornerstone of hipster culture? That is news to me. I should go tell my girlfriend I'm a hipster now.

Very true. The first season had the advantage of strong songs that had been worked on for years, the second season showed what happens when you have to rush. The stories might have been stronger in S2, as they pulled in more comedians etc, to compensate for the weaker songs.

Give em a year off to write some great stuff, and then give us S3.

Thank farking God. If I had to sit with my girlfriend and watch another episode wondering where the jokes were or why people found their songs amusing I'd shoot her cable box.

Here is a list of things that are funny about Flight of the Conchords:
