Little.Alex: CtrlAltDelete: Tatsuma: Do you think that everyone who horded Jews in gas chambers and then killed them were all insane? Or all had a purpose?

Sometimes, people merely kill out of hatred. Even hatred not directed at anything in particular, or for good reasons.

I think you are right. But it brings up complicated matters that overwhelm the current argument.

Could you, for instance, imagine the logistics alone of executing all of those in multiple countries who were responsible for the Holocaust?

I've read 2 interesting things on that; I read a psyciatrist's book on sociopaths. She sez that about 4% of the population is completely free of guilt, conscience, or sympathy. They just don't have the brain chemicals

I also read a book on the Final Solution. It said that the Nazis had a hard time finding men who could kill women and children. Most men can't do it without breaking down. Guards at camps going nuts, killing themselves, things like that. But if you look you can find the right people for that job...

I have a sister in law who is a sociapath. I could tell you stories that would make you want to shoot her. Like her fondness for puppies. Loves puppies, like a toy, but doesnt like dogs. So about every 10 months, she gets a new puppy. Then when it starts to look like a dog, she has it put down or gives it to Purdue Medical Research... and goes the next day to get another puppy. Killed 7 puppies in the last 5 years. Really.

...hate that cooont soooooooooooooo much..... Destoyed my brother's life too, of course.

Once again. Oubliette. There's no mail service.
Heck - there's no toilet paper.
Open it up. Drop 'em in. Walk away.
Put up a sign saying, "No throwing peanuts to the prisoner."
Yelling up through the bars, "Help Me! Oh God, Please Feed Me!" is an appeals process that doesn't cost a dime.

Why not feed him bit by bit into the chipper? Put a little stopper around his ankles so he only loses a foot first, then cauterize it with a white-hot piece of metal. Don't give him any painkillers. Let him sit in agony for the last month of his life living in fear just like the people in DC. Do this process repeatedly for each life he took. You could even remove his organs for donation while he's still awake/alive. Use the most crude methods to take his kidneys and then call it a day as he dies from the open wound that marks the final stage of his execution.

Geez, all you conservatives and your blood lust (just kidding). Just because you won a few elections yesterday.

Sarcasm out of the way, how is it different between 'knowing someone did it' and 'guilty beyond a reasonable doubt'? Yes, I understand the corrupt cop syndrome (wifes first husband is as corrupt a shiatstain cop as ever wasted oxygen) but at the same time there are more killers in my building (1, a guy who killed someone DUI) then on death row (zero) if we go by the word of the people themselves.

I see no difference between offing this guy and someone who intentionally murders (loosely defined as pointing a gun/putting a knife to a person who is committing no wrong) a single person. Is the victim any less dead? Will the victims family grieve any less? Remember, in such instances it is the state acting as an agent of the people to carry out this execution.

IonBeam2: As he prepared for his 2003 trial, Muhammad was "amnesic of the events surrounding the crimes" and thought he was being framed in an elaborate scheme, the attorneys wrote. He believed that he was a prophet and said Malvo discovered an herbal cure for AIDS. He also said the military had trained him in "urban warfare" at "secret schools." The attorneys said that because of Muhammad's brain damage, he has trouble following a logical line of thought and "lacks sufficient ability to distinguish truth from falsity."

Okay, how do these things make him different from any other black man?

A serious question to the assembled: why do we no longer hang the condemned?

I'm sure at some point some federal judge had a problem with it, but really, why screw around with tying someone to a gurney and pumping them full of chemicals? Isn't that just kind of tacky? So that they look "peaceful", or some crap like that, to the witnesses as they are being put down? So it is more like what a veterinarian does?

The idea is to KILL them. Now, whether or not you like that idea in the first place, if you're going to KILL somebody, why not keep it simple? Hemp rope, a drop, and their neck breaks. Done properly, which is not very hard, with practice, literally tens of thousands of people have been executed that way for hundreds of years.

So why don't we still hang people like we used to? They will be just as DEAD either way. If anything, it is more respectful to someone that they can die standing, instead of tying them down like an animal? Why not show even a vicious killer a little respect when you kill them?

No. She's a pig. She used to be slightly hot, but now she's a Land Manatee.

She was slightly hot when she snagged my brother, and probably wild in bed as the crazy often are. But then they got married and she promptly gained 80 pounds and cut her hair short.

That's ten families that have a constant reminder of the brutal, horrible randomness visited upon someone they loved.

Tatsuma: epoc_tnac: I think people are more worried about all the farking innocent people who get executed because of corrupt cops, lazy and incompentent lawyers, and a legal system that basically doesn't give a fark. And stuff, and junk.

This is why it should be restricted to cases where there is no doubt that the sentenced man is guilty.

How would the system you envision even work? Would a person convicted of a capital crime have to be found really guilty in order to get death? If they are found only guilty then do they get life?

Despite the best analysis techniques, evidence is collected by humans and humans are fallible. That is never going to change. As long as the human part of the equation exists mistakes are always going to be a possibility. I believe that the death of an innocent cannot be justified, no matter how many guilty people may deserve to die.

/Also, clearly Muhammed should executed by being towed by a car on a highway at high speed wearing roller skates while people on overpasses try to squash him with major appliances.

Little.Alex: Look at Dukakis and Willie Horton. MD had body guards, and an armored limo, and private jets; so why not turn loose psychotic murderers? The worst he could do is kill a few peasants, which he did.

Actually Horton committed rape and assault on his furlough, not murder. It was murder that landed him in jail in the first place. But what remains interesting about Horton is how successfully liberals were able to turn him into a victim of racism by whining about the anti- Dukakis campaign commercial made about him in 1988. As usual, hysterical race- baiting was successful in obscuring the true facts of the case, which were terrible. But liberals have been drawing from this poisoned well of rhetoric for decades.

I don't understand why the Death Penalty isn't carried out by a firing squad. Sinplest way. No Doubt. No "torture". It's gotta be the cheapest. Guns and bullets. Why have all these elaborate set ups like the lethal injection chamber and the electric chair? Firing squad.

whammer: A serious question to the assembled: why do we no longer hang the condemned?

Because hanging people to death is an inexact science. You have to get everything just right (the rope length, the knot, everything set for the prisoner's weight, etc.), otherwise the neck does not snap. And as we all know now, all this does is cause paralysis and eventually death, not instant death. And when you get it wrong you can end up just strangling the person and they die over a matter of minutes. And sometimes it doensn't kill them at all.

Yah, we can get all internet tough guy over it and say "good, a messy agonizing death is what he deserves" but if that was the case, then the judge should have sentenced him to messy death.

The evidence in the trial was overwhelmingly damning. His "protoge" should have recieved the same fate. They both should have been executed long ago. Virginia is wasting good tax dollars keeping both of them alive.

Same as with mass murderer John Gacy of Illinois years ago, it took many years from conviction to death pentalty---and hundreds of thousands of wasted tax dollars in the mean time.
