I just can't understand how some people don't think that Achtung Baby is an incredible record. I do however understand the argument for everything after that.

Rock and Roll for U2 died off in 1987. After that they became a pop band.

Yeah, that's the one. It's a damned good CD.

Note to Bono: Suck less, and you will sell more albums. A man cannot live on ego alone.

Yes, plus The Fly, Zoo Station, Until the End of the World, So Cruel, and One.

You know what I would buy? A DVD of Bono getting thrown from an airplane at 30,000 feet, into a volcano, while having 30 lbs of tnt strapped to him.

I'd pay upwards of 20 bucks to see that.

Aside from that I would really like to never hear anything from U2 again.

Loved Achtung Baby. Thought Zooropa was vastly underrated. Not a big fan of anything after that.

That being said, this tour was disappointing. The stage setup was amazing, but I have never seen them just seem to go through the motions like they did this time around.

Second note to Bono: Taking 5 years to deliver sub-par albums does not impress your loyal fan base.

Fails to mention how Katy Perry is the best thing to happen to pop and/or rock music in a decade...and that is not an endorsement of the current musical situation.

No, it actually came from (I think) an old Dragonlance book where Tasslehoff Burrfoot talks about someone dying by falling off a cliff into the mouth of a lion thats on fire.

My comment was just a variation on that theme.

Yeah....OK there, Racquetball Goggles.

There are new bands making great rock music, it's just that careerists like U2 don't when to call it a day.

Hey, those glasses of his ain't free, y'know.

That being said, U2 might not be cranking out the hits like they used to, but their music is still better than 90% of the crapfest that calls itself "Rock and Roll" these days.

Here's a question for all the youngsters out there...Do you ever listen to rock, r&b, and pop from the sixties and seventies and feel stunned by how much the music of today SUCKS by comparrison? Cause it REALLY does. The top acts of today aren't nearly as good as the third stringers of that era. Grand Funk was mediocre, and they are still way better than the White Stripes. Your generation was passed the torch of rock and roll and fumbled it horribly.

True, but also understand that the model for music has changed. The majority of bands proliferating are seeking regional markets rather than national exposure.

And i'm just a dick because in Maine, the 'scene' is mostly something called "post hardcore" that soudns like someone executing a live bear with a chainsaw and has fans that look like this --> farking hipster (new window)

Excuse me? YOUR generation of record execs and big music pushed this music on us to make money. There are alot of really amazing bands out there right now, but they aren't main stream so you may have to dig a little to find some good stuff

Some of us are trying to change music and do something different, it's hard to do

There's more of it there than there is here, yes. But there is a lot here, too. You just have to actually do the discovery legwork yourself. (and the Internet aids in that task muuuuuuch more than your local ClearChannel station does).

"I don't like old people on a rock 'n' roll stage. What you're pretty much doing is imitating yourself at the age of 25, and there's basically nothing more pathetic." - Grace Slick

Rock and roll was meant to rebel against the prior generation, and piss off your parents. It wasn't meant to have a Hall of Fame or an old timers day. It's for youth and tired old men on stage still playing rock star is pathetic.

It's over and careerists like Racquetball Goggles just doesn't get it.

THIS. After Jimi, Janis, and John Bonham died, you decided that music needed to become a product first and art second.

It was originally intended as B-sides for Achtung Baby, but they decided to stretch it into a full album.
