Tim Horton's is AWFUL!!! Only Panera has worse coffee, and at least they have delicious bagels.

Timmy's is the modern Canadian equivalent of what McDonald's was 20-30 years ago -- the one that's in every town, the sort of "common element".

I was late to the party in the other Tim Horton's thread so I'll say it again here. We have a Tim Hortons in Dublin on O'Connell but it's just a coffee vending machine with thawing donuts beside it. I stop by on my way to work if my coffee shop isn't open yet and buy it when I can but damn I miss double doubles.

A lot of farkers will jump in going on about how horrid Tim Horton's coffee is or how great their personally roasted beans are but I think they're missing the point. A large (or better, XL) Double Double is how Tim's coffee is supposed to be.

When I think about Tim Horton's I think about that quick and easy coffee I'd pick up with work buddies on my way to the job at 6 am or the place I'd hit up on my way to university everyday for a coffee and bagel to get through the morning class. It's been years since a real Tim Horton's coffee and god damn do I miss it. The second thing I do after stepping off the plane in february is getting a coffee.

I don't think it's as good as it was years ago. They can't get anyone to work there, and those that do, don't know how to properly clean the filters in most of the locations.
All of the donuts are now mass produced in Brantford, and are also not as good. They do make a good steeped tea, but most of the time you ask for it, they don't have any ready.

Starbucks is way to gritty and strong for me. McDonalds has a decent blend now, but they insist that it be served at 3000 degrees.

Second Cup is probably my favourite for quality and consistency. The masses have no taste though, hence the prevalence of Walmarts. Tim Hortons will just keep growing, because people don't know any different......or any better.

It was originally a canadian company, owned by the Horton family, until they sold it to the Wendies franchaise... the only thing you have right is that it did recently again become a canadian company

I think they blend their own now, but back in the late 70's I spent a summer working in their warehouse in Oakville, Ontario. They actually had 3 different coffees then - just plain old grocery store brands in packages that would make a pot. One was Mother Parker's and I can't remember what the other 2 were.

Tim Horton's is cheap, safe and consistent, and the sugar in one of their donuts will keep you going for another 400km on the highway.

Discussions about coffee always have this weird elitist air about them. And that confuses me.

It's not the highest quality coffee. It's not the worst, either -- and it does have this certain taste to it that I can't easily explain. Slightly buttery? It's mild and enjoyable, maybe only because it's familiar to me.

We're not the only group that loves bad coffee. I had Dunkins a number of times in Chicago and I have nothing good to say about their coffee. People like things that remind them of home, right? Isn't that why Mom's meatloaf is the best? That's what the article seems to be about, anyway. If I was serving abroad I'd want to be reminded of home.

Relax - its not supposed to be elegant or snobby. Its coffee you can drink while loading AV fuel drums at 7 am in the frost. Imean frick, where else is there to drive through for consistently decent coffee and pastries? You think people in Swan River Manitoba are going to go get everyone "second cup"? Do you really think the people in Dawson Creek BC search around for a dunkin doughnuts instead of a tims on their way to work?

Branding, mostly. Outside of hockey, Drinking Tim Horton's coffee is the most lowest common denominator way of expressing national pride for some reason.

I never liked Tim Horton's and I used to go there almost daily since it was right by my house and their sandwich combos were easier than walking all the damn way to the store. Meh coffee, absolutely horrible donuts. Chili is more of a soup, but if you add some hot sauce to it, it's the best thing in the store. Aside from the chocolate danishes. Large half coffee/ half hot chocolate, chili and a bun and a chocolate danish. Pretty farking good when it's snowing out.
