But that can't be Bass555! Saddam is a tactical genius!

This reminds me of a C&C game played by 13 year olds.

That's assuming that Saddam means to defend. I think he knows he's farked, and he's trying to go out like Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove.

Point taken.

I remember reports of Iraqi soldiers putting explosives on the oil fields in preperation of being pushed back. That would make the oil well heads blow too. Causing lots of fires for years to come.

Vegita6_13 You spelled clique wrong. Clique, with the little accent mark, not click. Now you just get on back to your intelligent debate.

This is through DRUDGE though. So go figure

2003-03-20 11:32:20 AM
Since when did we ever get our oil from Iraq? No seriously, I'm almost positive we don't but here's where my intelligent debate comes in, I want someone to tell me and give me facts, not someone to tell me, "OMG Monkey face Bush is mad that his oil is on fire LOLOLOLOL I AM TEH FUNNEY"

Has someone stolen your login and password to fark? I've never usually agreed with what you have had to say, but it has normally been thought worthy and at least entertaining. But lately it just seems a bit tired. Like you are not even trying. C'mon man, straighten up.

Burning oil accomplishes a few things for Saddam.

It can potentially block laser guided weapons from obtaining target info/coordinates. This will mean that GPS guided munitions will be utilized. GPS is not as accurate and can be electronically jammed.

Secondly, and more pucker-factor, the smoke can mess up Chemical Detection equipment. So he could theoretically use this to block any detection of chemical use until soldiers feel the symptoms. Then they would be forced to go thru first aid treatment and decontamination procedures and slow down any progress.

Megapaw, MSNBC is reporting he was only "wounded".

2003-03-20 11:35:23 AM
well depleted uranium is serious bad news. However it only tends to polute the local area where it's used. Pollutents from burning oil can and will cause world-wide effects

2003-03-20 11:35:30 AM
now that's retaliation!

2003-03-20 11:36:22 AM
So let me get this stright--we've said its not about the oil. You've said it is. Oil wells are on fire. The military didn't see seizing them as the top priority.

But if it was about oil so why didn't the military seize it righgt away?

hmmmmmm.

2003-03-20 11:36:32 AM
I don't get it why are they burning the oil? Is it to let everyone know that the war is on or is it like a tradition? I feel sorry for them, well not all of them just the children. It has gotta suck knowing that you may die in a few days or a parent may die. There is no greater sorrow than a parent having to bury a child. Just so you know i do still feel that this is necessary and Saddam is a threat that should have been taken care of long ago. just a little sad and worried though

Cryinoutloud Yes I know I spelled it wrong, all you have for me is one spelling error? clap clap clap clap Bravo!!! You sure put me in my place with that scathing retort, although you proved my point for me quite well. Thanks.

HRAPBROWN. If I gave up on them, I would give up on humanity and the prospect of precreating for fear that my children would have to coexist with some of these peoples' children. I am close though.

I LOVE the smell of buring oil fields in the morning. Smells like...shiat.

2003-03-20 11:38:13 AM
I am sure this is all scripted. It is all so predictable. I reckon the boys will be sipping long island iced teas on Baghdad boulevard by Saturday.

I am not sure i like these David and Goliath battles. What bothers me is the ending to that story.

If its not about oil why so upset?

=====

I support the war effort.
I don't care about the oil fires, except for environmental concerns, and what they do to the country of Iraq.
I do not support this war for driving down the price of oil.
I support this war because I support any means necessary to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Saddam was seeking them. The world will be a much more dangerous place if every country that wants them, gets them. Negotiating people out of wanting them is not much of an option in some cases. Most REASONABLE people will realize that.

The U.S. recently announced a voluntary reduction in nuclear weapons. We still have too many. It would be nice if we could eliminate them all together, as well. But, we definitely don't need to increase the number of countries with them.

From Drudge:

"There is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

Can we all agree that this would be a good thing? Let's try... Hamornia, Goatboy, this would be preferred right?"

This would be a wonderful thing it could prevent the lose of a lot of live if its true. It makes taking the country much easier and a lot safer.

For GODS SAKE, won't someone think of the oil wells?

2003-03-20 11:41:22 AM
I guess I'll do like last gulf war, light a doobie for every oil well they light.

Reuters is reporting that there are three to four fields possibly set on fire right now.

Vegita6_13 - we do get oil from Iraq, but not as much as a few other countries. Something along the lines of 12% or so of the worlds oil comes from Iraq, which is the same as what comes from Kuwait and less than Iran even. You can find out some information from the DOE here

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/pgulf.html

and some of that same information and a break down on which companies really buy their oil from which countries can be found here in an easy to read format

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/nogas.htm

or the raw data for you numbers freaks out there

Stick with it Goatman. Sometimes it may feel as though you are banging your head against a wall, but with 70,000 Fark members and the amount of responses you elicit, i am sure people are getting your message. If you change one person's mind, your work is done. Fark is better for having you here. People need to learn that not everything is black and white and you are showing them the way. Be at peace with yourself Goat, this is not your fault.

2003-03-20 11:43:52 AM
I know this is going to sound crazy, but I honestly believe that even these protesters feel that this war is justified, and just refuse to admit it out loud.

Haahaa, they believe that uncle saddam is a legitamte leader and we are going against the will of the people. Don't forget 100% of Iraqis voted for him.

All cry for Uncle Saddam, a true humanitarian. The women he had raped will cry when he's killed. The children of the tortured parents will wish to martry themselves for him...truely all Iraqis will be sad when saddam is gone.

If its not about oil why so upset?

How about air pollution?
How about destruction of an irreplaceable, valuable natural resource?

This would be like if the US were invaded, and we burned all our, um, ... McDonalds?

2003-03-20 11:48:00 AM
Kelloggs, I was referring to your quotes as saying you were underage and undereducated, "oh well, life goes on" That infers you really don't care, hence my comment. Since you're having trouble educating yourself, you may want to focus some attention on reading comprehension.

Byteblock: Priceless!

2003-03-20 11:48:46 AM
Harmonia:

Space case, unlike all that depleted uranium!

Didn't you hear? Depleted Uranium is AOK, super safe. The Pentagon isn't sure how it effects children as they have no real studies on that, but it's like 100% safe for them as long as they don't inhale it or touch it or ingest it. Hey, kids never do that stuff anyway.

2003-03-20 11:49:49 AM
Of course we get some of our oil from Iraq, and from every other country that sells oil. Oil is a fungible asset and, therefor, a commodity which is brokered. Even if Iraq were completely cut off from selling oil refiner would continue to purchase from brokers purchasing from Saudi Arabia, Venezuala, Russia, etc. The French oppose action in Iraq because they have the contracts to sell Iraqi oil on the various commodities markets and they fear a change in regime will void those contracts.

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Iraq's U.N. ambassador denied on Friday U.S. allegations that Baghdad was poised to sabotage its own oil fields and said the allegations were part of a U.S. "symphony of propaganda."

Ambassador Mohammed Aldouri told Reuters the charge, leaked to U.S. media by intelligence sources, was simply the latest attempt by Washington to demonize Iraq amid the gathering threat of a U.S.-led war to oust Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Yashur: Thank you for the information. So basically the amount of oil we get from Iraq is inconsequential compared to where we get oil from other sources?

2003-03-20 11:51:22 AM
Vegita6- My reading comprehension is fine, at least the FCAT said so.

But thanks for the tip. I'll take that into consideration.

Let's see, was it on Fark that I first heard "arguing on the internet is like running in the special Olympics--even if you win, you're still retarded."

Go join the armed forces or something, Vegita. Make yourself useful.
