Old enough to know better:
Any Pie Left: Of the two, who do you think had the bigger ego: Tom Baker or Bill Shatner?

Tough call.

OTOH, Shatner isn't farking crazy.

Shatner also didn't use most of chapter 1 of his autobiography to reminisce about group masturbation sessions when he was a kid.

The Icelander: No, the tears will be when they realize what they replaced David Tennant with:

Seriously. Graham Norton would have been a better choice.

/My choice would have been Dylan Moran
//Or Colin Salmon

Hagbardr: But what was the landlord from The Young Ones doing there anyway?

You're thinking of Revelation of the Daleks.* And I think he'd retired and become a DJ in the future. Or something.

*easy mistake, since all of the '80s Dalek stories had titles with the same "R of the Daleks" formula

Oh the Shat's crazy alright. It's just that Tom Baker is truly, completely batshiat insane.

The Icelander: No, the tears will be when they realize what they replaced David Tennant with:

I'm okay with that; I wasn't sure Tennant was going to work, so I'm willing to give this guy a chance.

What I do know is that many of the suggestions as to people want to see as the Doctor (ie, Dylan Moran, who I love as an actor) are really just people looking for Doctors who are like the Doctors of past whom they loved.

Me? I want to see something new; I'd rather they try something different (even if I don't like it) than to have them fall back on old territory and become boring.

Great Janitor: ravenlore: The Icelander, if that had turned out to be Eleven's outfit I'd have been a happy fangirl. But no, he looks like Bill Nye the farking Science Guy.

I was really hoping for an older Doctor. Mid 40s perhaps...

That is what Steven Moffat had planned until Matt Smith walked through the door. I trust Moffat, and have been getting a serious Troughton vibe going on with what I'm seeing from the filming and other little details.

I think his outfit is very cool and am very much looking forward to seeing him as the Doctor. This shot in particular for some reason really got me getting the 2nd Doctor vibe and started making me really look forward to the new Doctor:

Rogerdude58: Tom Baker was the best ;)

There is only one Doctor, but the time he looked like Tom Baker is the best incarnation.

Romanadvoratrelundar was the best companion of all time.

Lalla Ward was married to Tom Baker and later to Richard Dawkins. Wow.

I still think the guy who played Gaius Baltar woulda been the best new doctor. also sad that there wasn't a good 8th doctor side-series/flashback. He got boned.

Just like Roger Moore was an improvement over Sean Connery.

Or something.

Now that would have been awesome.

Mostly because he'd surround himself with beautiful "companions."

I like boobs. Eccleston was great. Tennant was good but the scripts mostly sucked. Billie Piper was as annoying as all fark. I stopped watching after the third season where everyone believed in the Doctor or some crap. Loved "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances".

I don't understand why so many love Sylvester McCoy. After the first episode I watched with him I said "It's over. I can't believe they let this happen."

Once they got over the cosmic fool bit and made him a darker bastard it worked damned well. Remembrance of the Daleks. (and the novel added some GREAT shiat with the Abomination in there) Curse of Fenric. Hell, even that scene from that POS Silver Nemesis where he called Peinforte's bluff and simply didn't give a shiat. The master manipulator was a great move.

And they'd better play with the foreshadowing in Battlefield in a future series. fark SG:1, Who did it first :D

Great Janitor

You know, I went back and watched a few of his episodes. Not as bad as I had feared. Though his audio plays are much much better.

The production values and shiate acting of the time are what really slaughtered him (seriously. Read some of the TARGET novels of his era - they're a hell of a lot more palatable than the actual eps. shiat, Timelash comes off as a half-decent Dune homage) The Big Finish stories are at least giving him some damned good comeback. Reel Time in particular is a firm fave.

10th doctor fangirl here. I am going to ball my eyes out during these last few episodes. I really wish Tennant would stay for one more season of Moffet episode. But I still hope to enjoy 11th doctor.

Geez, what's with the Colin Baker hatred? The man was a pimp and his Doctor was awesome. The stories were the only downside and if they let him continue the show would have gone on for a lot longer than it did. Mostly because Grade would have left. :)

Still, Tennant will go and life will go on. And Davies can feel some pride despite his reign going on for far, far too long and his writing turning exceedingly slash-fictionish for everybody's tastes.

Big Finish spent two years with them in the other Universe. Overall it was a great story line. Being pestered by the Kro'ka (the puppet of the Divergence), being shunted from world to world and the TARDIS being stolen.

I'm a Ninth Doctor fangirl myself. I've even written the slash fiction with the sex on the TARDIS console. Starring myself of course. He did the RAR ANGRY DOCTOR and silly, cockblocking doctor the best and how he could snap between the two was awesome.

I learned to like Tennant, I think only because Rose believed in him so much. I adored Rose personally, we're close in age and have the same static go nowhere lives. Compartively, Romana bores me to tears when I watch the old episodes, I keep hoping she'll bite it. I did marry a guy who more than slightly resembles the man (he really does, not like other guys who say they look like Tennant).

Anyhow, don't like the look of the new guy. Don't like the new TARDIS, it looks like a lego brick. And the new logo looks like a 1980's hairball coughed up on my carpet. With no companion I like to smooth the transition, I don't expect to stay around for this guy.

Guntram Shatterhand: Geez, what's with the Colin Baker hatred? The man was a pimp and his Doctor was awesome. The stories were the only downside and if they let him continue the show would have gone on for a lot longer than it did. Mostly because Grade would have left. :)

Colin Baker never really got the chance to put his stamp on the role because
John Nathan Turner was a control freak who let Pip and Jane Baker run the
show into the ground with some of the absolute worst drek in the name of
attracting a more 'adult' audience. Even if Michael Grade hadn't had a
hard-on to cut the show JNT's stupid pursuit of demographics would have
done it in about as quickly.

I just hope with the new guy they get out of the whole "Oh the Doctor's
companion is hopelessly in love with him!" stupidity (it was great when
they did it with Rose, not so good with EVERY FRICKIN' COMPANION AFTER HER,
including Captain Jack!) and they do some proper space opera for at least
a couple of shows.

And that's why Donna is one of the best companions ever (and this is coming from a diehard Martha, Ace and Sarah Jane fanboy) - she spent not one second pining over The Doctor and just wanted to travel, see what was out there and give just as good as she got.

This. I hated her character soooooo much. The show revolved around her and her family rather than the Doctor. The Martha season was heartbreaking, especially the end. When she reverted back to what she was and lost everything that she had become it was very sad.

Ruseell T. Davies:Doctor Who::Rick Berman:Star Trek

I have a sneaking suspicion that the new Doctor will be made of as much FAIL as Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy.

However if he's as awesome as Jon Pertwee or Christopher Eccleston (or a lesser degree of Tennant and Baker...which is an odd coincidence that 3/4 and 9/10 go from able to kick Capt Kirk's ass to a rather goofy persona....)

sorry, where was I going?

David was AWESOME. He's one of the best.

And damn it, I liked Colin Baker's Doctor. He was a bombastic, crude, shouty fellow who enjoyed insulting every other species in the universe. He was a look at how regeneration can go horribly wrong, but in an entertaining way.

I also liked McCoy's Doctor, especially toward the end when he got damn near malevolent and it became clear he was playing some sort of cosmic game of chess (the ending of which we never really saw).

/and Ace was ace.

So, what's the over-under on whether Maria Jackson will reappear and be a companion of the Doctor in another three years or so? They seemed to be laying some groundwork in The Sarah Jane Adventures' episode "The Mad Woman in the Attic" when describing her [unseen] exploits in D.C. as being "the new Sarah Jane". Her successor, Rani Chandra, looked more promissing until she was grounded by the Judoon in "Prisoner of the Judoon".

Taleya: My death scene was completely upstaged by Nicola's breasts....

Heh. Indeed. Perhaps that's why she sounded "rather egotistical" to the newly regenerated Doctor...

2009-11-02 06:59:50 PM
A big problem with the new series is that Russell T. Davies is a fanboy. He's not trying to write a good show, he's just putting his fantasies on screen. Every character practically has the Doctor's balls in their mouth. Davies doesn't understand the difference between romantic tension and sexual tension. Look at the classic series! Pertwee clearly cared about Jo, but at the same time it never seemed like they were about to bang. Maybe just hold hands and skip through a field.

Jamie is still my favorite companion. He and the Doctor had such great chemistry and you still got a bit of that "The Doctor will manipulate you because his sense of morality is on a completely different plane and he will never feel guilty because you're the equivelant of a pet cat to him". The Doctor should be more like your awesome grandfather and less like the guy in chem class that you want to bang.
