You are forgiven if you bring their woman to us.

Bradshaw said she felt that when questioned by the tenure board. "They wanted to know how many men were in my classes," she said. "You wouldn't ask that of a male professor."

How many men do you find teaching 'woman's studies'? And given the rep for most of the woman teaching that subject, i'd say the question was valid.

Exactly. There's absolutely no need for that in a major university. You get an education to make a living.

+ 1 for the English Major for manning up...

And for the issue: It's obvious that the University has got discrimination problems. If your department committee think you deserve tenure, if several groups have come to the conclusion your method of Tenure is false and you statistically deny women the job in comparison to the men, then you have a major malfunctions

2009-10-31 06:32:03 PM
This article touches on one of the problems with modern universities (and one of the reasons students are ass-raped by costs): too many university departments exist solely to perpetuate themselves... they do not provide research for the greater-good of the school (or society), they do not provide in-depth analysis that one couldn't learn from a month at the library, and they are a net drain on a university's finances.

The fact that DePaul has a group that oversees tenureship, and makes decisions ABOVE each department, is a good thing. These schools need more engineers, chemists, and mathematicians, not more women's studies professors. Sorry, if that's "sexist," then perhaps we should force universities to provide courses in beer drinking, football, and getting laid (you know, "men's studies").

2009-10-31 06:33:46 PM
Now, if they aren't giving tenure to women simply because they are women, that's bad.

/but if they come with a choice of topping, that's good

Oh, and after looking further into the article, they actually DO think they're comparably deserving of a job as a sciences professor that brings (possibly) hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in research grants to the school (not to mention the high amount of donated monies from those who earned degrees in the sciences).
I'm sorry, but again, that's a major flaw with the modern American university system.

My favorite, though, is how she completely glosses over the idea that, perhaps, the board that refused this woman's tenure MAY actually believe the sexism is not with them, but with her course:
Bradshaw said she felt that when questioned by the tenure board. "They wanted to know how many men were in my classes," she said. "You wouldn't ask that of a male professor."

She has no reason to make that insinuation... if "football coaching 101" was a course, chances are, it would have a male professor, and an almost entirely male body... and I'm sure a school may be curious to know if a gender-biased course actually has a huge disproportion of a certain gender. It's not an unreasonable question at all... women's studies courses don't have a reputation for sexism for no reason.

Nowadays women's studies is ripe with adorable, petite, pale, cat-eye glasses wearing girls who wear only the trendiest of thrift store style clothes and typically have sensitive, skinny jean-wearing boyfriends with fashionable facial hair.

The guys are kinda douchy but the girls are cute as hell.

It's pretty clear that the question about men in her classes was intended to bring out the fact that these courses tend to overwhelmingly enroll women, and in fact tend to have a "cadre" of students and professors who will brook no debate, no dispute of their version of the "truth" about gender, sexism, patriarchy, et al. ad nauseam.

The cool thing is that to get an A in those courses, all you have to do is absolutely toe the ideological line in your papers and class contributions. And if you're a dude, to survive you should quickly claim to be antisexist, antirape, and with a deep seated resentment/hatred of your own penis. Interestingly, this will get you laid. By penis-hating women who will Hoover that thing like an anteater at a termite mound. But they won't admit it in public.

I don't know about this bit. I've been in 3 vag classes (literature in the Vic. age, Southern lit., early American poets) and while my ardent third wave ideas and opinions sparked passionate debate, I never felt unwelcome or abused. There were also men in all three classes who voiced opinions that again sparked debate, but they were not castrated and given an F.

How many classes w/ a female focus have you been in?

You know how many pseudo-bisexual feminists wanted my cock after me just telling it how it is? Not by being overtly "sexist" mind you, but by unabashedly being masculine and a guy and telling it like it is?

Plenty. Most of the chicks in those classes just want the cock anyhow.
