Being Famous Sucks: no shiat, thats my home town! Way to make me proud, boys.

Two of my residents in college were from Indianola; I half-expected to see their names in the article.

"Daniel Ryan Mitchell, 22, and Cody Oshay Lundberg, 21, both of Indianola, are charged with felony counts of criminal mischief. The two men admitted to the overnight acts of vandalism that broke the coolant tanks on the buses"

Note to prospective vandals :

doing this when you're 14-15 and would actually benefit from not having to go to school = possibly excusable.

Doing this when you're in your early 20s = incredibly stupid, useless felony.

//the cell phone thing's just gravy.

It's best you leave your enemy's cell phone at the scene of the crime. Like the Maryland students who would tape fake license plates to their cars then drive past speed cameras.

They were probably hoping to get some high-school girls to use the day off to come over and hang out with them.

Oh, how I wish some brave idiot would do that in my city.

See, I hate schools. I'm not using hyperbole. I seriously HATE them.

Mainly because of the effects they have on traffic. I hate how school buses force everyone to come to a dead stop every time someone else's crotch fruit needs to get on or off the bus.

But that's nothing compared to the white-hot contempt I feel when my path takes me through a "school zone" where I have to slow down to a crawl - even when there is not a single little bastard in sight.

"It's for the CHIL-drennnn!" said the braying jackasses who got this passed. But honestly, when was the last time you saw a kid - ANY kid - actually walking to or from school?

It's nothing but feel-good gesture legislation that doesn't accomplish a damned thing but force us to genuflect to the Cult of the Child. Or else.

No way, it's best that you do. It saves tax payer money on a larger police investigation and we know where to send the bill.

The buses couldn't take it. They were yellow.

Darth Invictus: "It's for the CHIL-drennnn!" said the braying jackasses who got this passed. But honestly, when was the last time you saw a kid - ANY kid - actually walking to or from school?

I remember having kids from like a twelve block radius all having to converge at the same spot to get picked up and get dropped off.

When I was old enough to drive to and from high school, I remember seeing the bus stopping to drop off EACH individual child. Being stuck behind a bus like that is maddening.

I lived like 1/5th of a mile from my elementary school when I first started, walked to school... moved, lived about half a mile away, still walked, friends all lived on the way, was pretty nice.

Middle school you had to live at least 1 mile from the school to be able to take the bus, I was 2 houses away, but my same friends still lived on the way there so I would've walked anyways.

Usually took the bus home through high school, but there were bus stops for like 10 people, no curb service, might have changed it's been about 7 years.

One Thirty-two and Bush: Keep it close.

Oh dear god. I saw a guy at a grocery store last year doing just that. Cell phone rubberbanded to his head.

FTA: Daniel Ryan Mitchell, 22, and Cody Oshay Lundberg, 21, "The suspects stated that they thought 'it would be funny if school was canceled.'

I'ma let them finish in a moment but I'm going with the fact that they probably were thinking of a hook up with the cute seniors that just turned 18.

Subby here.

This was on the 5PM newscast on Friday on one of the local TV stations. Network news was on at 5:30 and at the 6 PM local news, they had the geniuses identified and in custody.

Vandalise vs vandalize. BFD. I started using the -ise variant in high school as my cursive z always ended up looking like a y or god knows what. It just carried over into writing in block letters and typing.

Mitchell also was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, another felony. Police said they found marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia during a search of Mitchell's bedroom.

The icing on the cake. To the typical cop, busting for MJ better that sex!

FTFA: "Police linked one of the men to the vandalism after finding his cell phone on the bus lot."

I read that as "...after finding his cell phone on the bus lol." Then I wondered when reporters began to use lolspeak.

Drunk and stoned is the only way these guys' logic could be working. Neither one alone will make someone as stupid as these douches, but combined, maybe.

"The vandals opened the bus hoods and broke the connectors that seal the rubber hoses onto the coolant tank. School officials need to replace the whole tank on each damaged bus."

No way a government school "official" would dirty his paper shuffling fingers to replace a part on a school bus.

I wonder if we'll get a followup: "vandals story a last-ditch effort to get funding for failing school district"

I second this. Before committing any felony start with a misdemeanor and steal someone else's phone / wallet / car

Blaming the schools is like blaming the government. The blame should go where it is deserved - to those who vote for IDIOTS and IDIOT legislation.

Why the fark is what they did a felony? An incredible hassle, sure. Make them do some jail, community service, and repay the school district for damage and the cost of charter buses or whatever they use during the repairs. But if you didn't hurt somebody or rip off thousands of grandmothers, it shouldn't be a felony.

2009-11-01 01:11:16 PM
Anhydrous Dihydrogen Monoxide: Why the fark is what they did a felony?

probably due to the cost of the repairs.

The vandals opened the bus hoods and broke the connectors that seal the rubber hoses onto the coolant tank. School officials need to replace the whole tank on each damaged bus.

i wish whoever wrote this article knew something about buses and/or mechanics. the "connectors that seal the hoses ..." are usually hose clamps. and what is the "coolant tank"? from the picture it looks like the bottom of the radiators were hammered. and the dollars to repair is about right for that.
