Well, then, the past twenty years of horror horrible has really sucked.

Some of these movies don't deserve to be on the list. Most notably:

Hostel Part II...not horror, but torture porn. Gore for the sake of gore, with no redeeming values. Same goes for the first "Hostel" and all the "Saw" movies.

The Blair Witch Project...are you kidding me?

Alien 3...again, are you kidding me?

Thank you, dgc360.

I've actually seen a bunch of those movies.

I have about half of The Kingdom, but the stupid rental place went out of business before they sent me the rest. :-(

No kidding. And the Silence of the Lambs is a great film but it isn't horror.

How the hell is The Descent lower than Hostel II?

And Audition at #1 is just a freaking joke.

That octopus/giant shark film from Sci-Fi was scarier than The Sixth Sense.

I'm surprised they didn't throw in The Happening or Wicker Man Remake. "THE BEES AND THE TREES ARE CONSPIRING AGAINST US!"

5. 28 WEEKS LATER (2007)
Richer, darker, crazier, and even scarier than 28 Days Later (the movie it's a sequel to),

Darkman isn't even a farking horror movie. It doesn't even try to be one.

About the only redeeming factor of this list, is that "Saw" isn't on it.

I kind of agree with him that 28 Weeks Later is a better movie. 28 Days may be more iconic, but I enjoy it less.

BS. 28 weeks later is good, but not as good, and not as scary. part of what made the first one SO GOOD was the utter solitude that the characters were going through, not even knowing if anyone was alive anywhere. They threw that straight into the shiatter in the second one.

Woo, thanks for saving me the bother.

The English Major: And now you see why I chose "Fail."

If I could vote you up I would.

This might be one of the worst EW lists I've ever seen: aside from the usual pretensiousness demonstrated by the inclusion of a high percentage of foreign films in order to seem more knowledgeable on the subject, the majority of these "horror" movies are weak. That probably explains how you can get Alien 3 on there but not The Ring (since the original was better, apparently), even though the "inferior" remake is still a better horror movie than most of the entries on that list.

And wasn't "The Kingdom" actually a TV mini-series?

Well it's just different. I like them both, but prefer the 2nd. Especially that opening sequence.

And yet, "Hostel Part II", one of the worst examples of the awful torture porn genre, is.

If you had to put a torture porn movie on there, and I don't think you have to, I'd have probably gone with the original Saw.

Can I throw a little love for The Excorcism of Emily Rose? Not a great movie, but it has some legitimately scary stuff in there, some excellent imagery, and I think it's better than a lot of the stuff on this list.

Well I still think they should have dumped most of the movies on that list and included both of them.

The original saw isn't torture porn. There's not much gore in it. It's a proper horror movie - 2 people locked in a room and not knowing what the hell is going on.

The orginal Saw is a very good film, but its sequels are destroying its reputation.

EW is just...ugh. Sometimes, there's a decent book review that'll turn me onto something new.
The Kingdom was overseas, but released as a feature here.
Kingdom Hospital was Stephen King's TV adaptation.

Blair Witch is too low.
Darkman was neither "horror" nor good.
Planet Terror? Cue the "Not Sure If Serious" pic

I was disappointed with the movie after seeing the trailer with the reverse bear trap. I never felt like the movie itself lived up to how disturbing and twisted the trailer led me to believe that it would be.

Shaun of the Dead wasn't really a horror either. It was a romantic comedy with zombies.

No. It was definitely a horror movie. A funny one, but it has serious horror in it.

A romantic comedy with zombies? Zombieland. Which was really fun.

It was okay. I agree with your assessment that the sequels cheapen it, though; even though it was disappointing, I thought it was pretty good when I first watched it.

I own both of Von Trier's Kingdom series, and I have NO idea how either of them could be trimmed to feature length. You cut out any of the seemingly extraneous stuff and the finale makes even less sense than it did.

I don't get all the recent love for Event Horizon. As I recall, it came and went in theaters and everyone said meh. Years later, everyone's saying OMG itssoscary OMG!

The article is full og AIDS and fail.

Sure, Ringu was true horror (unlike it's retarded american cousin). Misery was more of a psychological thriller than horror, but is probably labelled "horror" for having been written by King.
von Trier's "Riget" is a mini-series. I have no idea how it could work in movie format without being edited to hell and back.
Event Horizon is as much horror as The Cube.
Alien 3 is far, far away from the horror the first movie was. Alien 3 was Ripley goin'-a-huntin' as usual.

Gore-porn, action movies featuring aliens, psychological thrillers, these are separate genres, and should not be confused with horror.

Some bombs have become hits. It's not horror, but think of Office Space.
I personally found it scary on the initial viewing, but to me, the biggest mindfark horror involving Sam Neill was In the Mouth of Madness.
