The annoying animations, mountain of sound effects and fake "echo chamber" applied to his voice ruin that video.

Should have just let him read it without all that crap tacked on.

This is one of the rare occasions we can use the walken tag.

Why not use it??

"Goodnight Goodnight Moon. Goodnight cow jumping over the moon." Please, children, scootch closer. Don't make me tell you *again* about the scootching. You in the red, chop-chop.

/not Poe, but excellent Walken nonetheless

So has anyone bashed the shiatty sound effects and music drowning out what probably would have been unmitigated awesome?

Because that *really* sucked.

I could deal with most of the sound effects, but the electric guitar almost made close the window.

That was Jay Mohr, who is quite the impressionist.

thank you for posting this.... every year, on reruns, they show this but without the "Eat My shorts" part...
This one had it, which makes it funnier..

I've been reading that book to my kid since she was two. I started doing a (bad) Walken voice after seeing that episode a while back. She's now 4-1/2 and she won't let me read it any other way.

I've always wanted James Earl Jones to do another complete version without the Simpsons characters mucking it up.

The definitive reading of Poe was done by Basil Rathbone. The Raven, The Masque of the Red Death, etc. I have it on LP, and I'm sure it can be found somewhere on teh internest.

Jeez, that approached Larry Carlson levels of annoying, disorienting AV effects.

+1. I had that as a kid (I think the albums were a combo of Rathbone and Vincent Price, IIRC), and those readings of The Pit and the Pendulum and The Cask of Amontillado are absolutely brilliant, and helped spark a love for Poe that's endured with me for 25+ years.
