farking priceless.
You know this will reel in a wave of hardcore Obama critics who think Palin would be a better choice ... and a similar wave of farvent Obama supporters confident that there is actual refutation appropriate (other than laughter).

mekki: This is satire. It says so right in the tags at the bottom of the "article". Nice trolling, Subby. You already got a few Farkers.

It sort of speaks to the state of the nation when something like this can be passed off as possibly legitimate. I thought the whole birther issue was a joke when I first heard it, but I find it hard to put much past these people.

Well, Hawaii does have a strong independence movement - strong compared to other states.

Would those be people who believe in the 10th Amendment, and believe that Congress is usurping rights it doesn't constitutionally have?

At first I thought it was serious, but then it slowly got more absurd. Way to trick people who don't read the article.

2009-10-31 02:14:20 PM
I have heard something similar which was NOT satire. Apparently Hawaii's referendum on statehood violated UN rules - so it doesn't really count that way.

Like the people who spout this sort of crap would listen to the UN on any other topic.

Is this my opportunity to again laugh at liberals who don't realize Rush Limbaugh was mocking them by throwing back in their face the exact phrase members of the media used about him and his utterly bogus "racist quotes?"

OK.

LOL, again.

Explain to me where I said Rush was right.

Everybody on the left is making a big deal about his "but we know he thinks it" comment. If you don't know the genesis for that phrase, pay better attention.

The sad thing is, I know people who have believed Hawaii is not a legitimate state. And they've believed that for years, well before Obama was even a blip on the radar. x.x

Something to do with it being improperly annexed, etc.

If you don't know that there were several other substantiated quotes from Rush to bolster that argument, pay better attention, apologist.

There's 300 million people in the United States. If you look hard enough you can find people who believe this or something even more nuts. That's why it's easy for a media organization to locate some loner whackjob and try to make it seem like he's representative of the beliefs of a larger mainstream group. And some people will fall for it, just like they're doing here on Fark.

uhh, you don't have to look to far (new window). It's not like this is isolated. I'd call the birther movement pretty mainstream, guy.

So you throw shiat at the wall, have your friends in the formerly mainstream media spread it around, and then just wait to see what sticks?

What other substantiated quotes? The Donovan McNabb thing? He said he thinks the media wants to prop McNabb up because they want a black QB to succeed.

I think that's completely wrong. But there's nothing racist about it.

You got something else? A quote as a D.J. under a different name from four decades ago, right?
