I loved Faith No More when I was young, but now that I'm almost 36, I feel like I'm having midlife crisis. I wake up ugly in the morning, feeling helpless. I take this bottle and spend my days drinking as much caffeine (like the real thing, Coca-Cola) as possible while my world gets smaller and smaller. It's like I'm on a collision course with death, and I've got that feeling that the minister will be saying "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" over me soon. Seriously, I'm falling to pieces and everything's ruined.

But now, from out of nowhere, comes this epic news! It's like my life has become a land of sunshine! I'm just sitting here naked in front of the computer and I get this news. What a day! I feel like a king for a day. My only regret is that I didn't know earlier, I'm always the last to know.

Well, no more feeling sorry for myself, I'm going to be aggressive, fire up the RV, and get out to see some shows. You'd think it would be easy, but if I make it to just one, it'll be a small victory!

"Angel Dust" was one of the most criminally overlooked albums in history.

That is all.

Really? Well... I mean, Mike Patton defined that band, really. Jim is good, but I'm not convinced it will be that different....

Didn't they just have that one song like 20 years ago? Is this "return" at a county fair or something?

It's not funny. My ass is on fire.

Maybe we have different definitions of "all".

I agree. I was familiar with their later stuff, and deluged into some of their earlier stuff, and yeah, Patton made FTM what it was. The early stuff just wasnt great. Its wasnt bad, but just not great. I still listen to The Real Thing once or twice a month.

out of the million patton projects, the one that matters the least is getting the most news. sounds about right.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, will stop me. Sure hope they come to Boston so I don't have to hump it down to NYC...but I don't care. I'm going.

I would prefer Jim Martin be there. But we'll get over it.

Damn. Late for a FNM thread, but it looks like it's pretty much the same old stuff:

"Too bad Jim Martin isn't in the band anymore..."

"Jim Martin grows pumpkins."

"One hit wonder."

"My favorite Mike Patton project is WAY more obscure than yours."

All that's missing is me saying "Faith No More has always been and always will be Roddy, Billy, and Puffy's band. That's why the albums with Chuck Mosely singing don't sound THAT much different than the albums with Patton.

/Saw them in 1994-ish at the Warfield (SF)

You need to be careful. Their shows will take you to the edge of the world. Some dude gives you some shiat called blood spirit, telling you it'll make you king for a day. Later you introduce yourself to some hot chick named Pristina. Being the midnight cowboy you are she takes you to what you later realize is her home sick home. You jump into a jacuzzi with that jizzlobber giving you a little underwater love. After she finishes she screams "Caralho Voador" while attempting to chop off your dick. Luckily, the war pigs that taught you the gentle art of making enemies also made hand to hand combat as easy as kindergarten. You cause her knife to ricochet off your bottle of very expensive tequila and as the worm turns you scream "Surprise, you're dead!" while you jam that blade so far up her crack Hitler would have been proud! You mutter "why do you bother" while cleaning up the evidence of another body murdered. You call your buddy Jim to clean up all of the evidence of your presence there, leaving the scene look like a perfect crime. The authorities will be the last to know what happened, having absolute zero leads to go on. What a day.

Ho hum... Used to love them, back in the Real Thing / Angel Dust days. Although, Angel Dust did get a little too weird for me here and there.

Then their new single came out, Digging the Grave, and it had nothing about it of the shiat that had made FNM so wonderful.

Being fickle, and easily disappointed, I gave up on them there and then.

I think this is what most people (including me) did. By the time King For a Day... (the album with Digging the Grave on it), was released, the Seattle bands had completely taken over. That combined with FNM changing their sound (bringing in Trey from Bungle) made it really easy for people to dismiss it without buying the album (including myself). The differnece between you and me, as far as this goes, is that a guy I played music with a few years later suggested I give it another chance. I did, and it actually holds up much better than The Real Thing and Angel Dust.

Jim Martin is just another in the long line of musicians who were more famous for their sunglasses or funny hat than their actual playing. I'm looking at you, Bootsy Collins, Slash, whoever wore the giant sunglasses in the 80s.
