You can only keep a company running on artificial stimulation for so long.

I know they had repackaged it in large 23.5 oz cans a while ago, and added
some odd flavors, but they were too expensive for me.

Trivia note: Pyramid Technologies (and old Unix minicomputer maker that was
bought out by Siemens about 10 years ago) had a prototype multi-processor
clustered machine that was code-named Jolt during production, and they sought
out a licence to fashion the case after the orginal Jolt Cola can. Got to
the point where they were making the first prototypes of the case when Jolt
backed out, and the production unit (called The Nile) still had a perfectly
curved front end.

A shame that the best-tasting cola I've had is going belly-up due to competition from raspberry-flavored battery acid.

Wait, so Mcdonald's is going to stop serving those cokes?

Oh, you're talking about Jolt, nevermind then.

Now be nice. One person's raspberry-flavored battery acid is another's stale goat's piss with a tinge of huckleberry.

The only place you can buy Jolt here is Liquor Barn, so I'm sure that fact hurt it's sales a little.

I used to buy one of these at this old fashioned general store next to this dollar theater. We would get all amped up, eat penny candies and go see cheap kids movies. Essentially, it was everything good about being a kid.

Ummm...I thought they closed down 22 years ago.

Wow, Jolt is responsible for me graduating college. I would never have been able to write some of those papers without it, I think it is against my genetic code to start on the things more than 48 hours before they are due. The deli near my house sells Jolt, I'll have to grab a bottle for old times sake.

2009-10-29 09:06:59 AM
It was actually good tasting stuff in the beginning. They used real sugar not HFCS. It fueled many an all-nighter in college. They used to have a diet version as well.

First Surge, and now Jolt?! What am I suppose to mix the rohypnol in now when I attend middle school slumber parties?

2009-10-29 09:12:30 AM
I drank several bottles of Jolt on Fridays and Saturdays through most of high school and early college (mid to late 90's). I didn't kid myself then that it tasted good, I just wanted to drink something with a ton of caffeine. To me, it tasted like old RC Cola that had been sitting in heat too long.

I'm not surprised that its market has been stolen by Red Bull and the other "energy drink" groups. They all taste like sugary gasoline to me, but I'm sure they get the job done.

2009-10-29 09:13:16 AM
It makes me wonder, when the energy drink craze crashes, what the hell are people gonna do? I mean, Jolt started it all, the rest just took the caffeine and other hip and trendy energy chemicals and put them in bad tasting drinks, and marketed it with trendy names. What's gonna happen when they go the way of Jolt?

\wasn't big on Jolt

I stuck to coffee, but another ditty bopper I worked with drank a couple each night. His 5:30am crash and burn was strong.

In these days of kids going straight from the bottle to energy drinks, maybe - but I'm right there with ya. I've had one Jolt in my life and it didn't do anything for me a freshly brewed cup of drip coffee could do.

Anyone remember Snapple elements? There was a dragonfruit flavoured one called "Fire" and a white grape/agave one called "Rain" and then this Green tea one called "Moon". They were good. And they had groovy shaped bottles.

FTA:
According to court papers, Jolt's major debt is nearly $5 million owed Rexam, as well as $25,775 to the Buffalo-based Wilson Farms convenience store chain, $24,840 to Rochester law firm Harter Secrest & Emery, and $20,610 to Sweeteners Plus in Livingston County.

They stiffed their outlets, lawyers and suppliers.
Time to fold up shop.

Aww what a sweet pooch! I used to have a red one too but she had both eyes blue.

I remember jolt from years ago... Haven't had it since I was like 12 (I have no idea why my parents let us have it).

The only energy drink I like (besides coffee) is MD Amp... it tastes almost just like Mountain Dew.
