Circuses suck. When I was really little I made the mistake telling my grandfather I wanted to go to the circus when I really meant to say the carnival.

I learned my lesson and I made that mistake only once.

They will be killed as there is almost no places left that can handle them, and still need them. PETA fail again.

Maybe some Bolivian cops could jerk these lions off as...you know...practice for their K-9 units.

They could beat the lions off to give us a interspecies love trifecta for the day..

2009-10-27 06:07:00 PM
It's unfortunate that now they have to find something else to do with them, but they should have NEVER been in the circus in the first place. I have no issue with well run zoos keeping animals in captivity to educate the public and preserve endangered species, but circuses are a joke and the animals are treated like the replaceable commodities they are.
Oh, I mean, animals are tasty! For every one you don't eat I'll eat 10. Sorry, I forgot where I was for a sec.

"For the ban's supporters, who have worked with the government on developing the legislation, not just any place will do. Zoos, for example, are ruled out by those involved in the discussion, some of whom say they'd rather euthanize the animals than see them back behind bars. After spending a lifetime in small boxes, constantly moving from hot to frigid climates and living at the whim of humans, these animals "shouldn't have to be entertainment for anyone," says ADI CEO Jan Creamer."

But it has left the group and others like it facing the challenge of finding homes for 22 lions and a few primates, which will be euthanized if none are available.

Have these people never heard of a grandfather clause? Throw some extra legislation in about humane working conditions it but this seems like ripe territory for one.

I'm sort of convinced the animal rights folks don't really care much about actual animals.

Maybe you should read about something before posting ignorant nonsense.

PETA may be a bunch of attention whoring whack jobs, but you could attack them for things that they actually do. Instead of taking something out of context like the "PETAkillsAnimals" website does.

Oh brother, once enough sanctuaries become aware of this occurrence in bolivia, these animals will find a decent home. the article even discusses how 5 of the lions are soon to be on their way to a sanctuary in california.

detroit is in, perhaps, worse shape

/people do need to eat
//eating farm-raised tasty animals is a reasonable use of animals' lives
///people do not *need* to watch lions jump through hoops and circuses really waste the lives of animals

The Farker in me suggests replacing the circus animals with animal rights activists. But then I realize it would be stupid to actually pay admission to watch a bunch of terrified, mentally challenged oafs being chained, whipped and forced through flaming obstacle courses when I can see the same thing at my house for free.

So you're saying that representatives of PETA did NOT kill 17 dogs, in the back of a van, in Virginia and toss the bodies into a dumpster? Dogs that they promised to find good homes for when they were picked up from a shelter that same night.

You're saying that PETA's own paperwork does NOT show that they KILL! 65% of the animals that they take in and that other pet shelters kill less than 30% of the animal left in their care.

Maybe you - apeiron242 - should do some research before spouting off here.

Hand it to Peta and their affiliates, they pro's at killing the animals they rescue. They like to do this rescue bit where they free the animals, and then leave in a field. Inevitably these animals starve, start attacking other animals or eat all the plants, but the end result is always the same. They have to be hunted down and killed.

They pulled a stunt on the U of M some years ago and a significant number of animals had to be put down. Then the funny thing is that with years of research down the tubes, the scientists had to start over. This resulted in even more animals ultimately dying. These people are on nothing but a power trip, if they could funnel even part of their energy to actually helping animals instead the world would be a far better place.

How is pointing out that PETA killed animals they said they would rescue taking anything out of context? Are you implying that by "rescue" they meant saved from a miserable life of slavery as a house cat?

2009-10-27 06:55:47 PM

Perfect example from the article that proves this is entirely about a power trip and has nothing to do with the welfare of the animals at hand. To quote ADI CEO Jan Creamer

Zoos, for example, are ruled out by those involved in the discussion, some of whom say they'd rather euthanize the animals than see them back behind bars. After spending a lifetime in small boxes, constantly moving from hot to frigid climates and living at the whim of humans, these animals "shouldn't have to be entertainment for anyone,"

These elitists would rather kill these animals than allow them to live the life they know, or even go to a zoo. If this stunt isn't a power trip, than I don't know what is.
