If they are so worried about overtime then don't allow workers to work overtime.

When I worked at Wal-mart you were supposed to watch your time and stay in touch with management so you didn't have overtime. If you continually had large amounts of unapproved overtime you had your hours cut. Typically from 40 to 36 for full-time employees.

At my current job I get flex time. Much nicer than overtime IMHO.

I take my work week and cram it into three to three and a half days every week. Sometimes four if the guys in Chicago and New York get in gear and get some orders in at the same time. I enjoy three or four day weekends 52 times a year.

Only one wife, though. :/

You mean they show up to work only four days a week. Seeing as they are state workers, they're still only really working about 1.5 of those.

I'm currently working 4 10's, and I'm thinking of moving to 3 days of 13:20 each. My boss has told me that all he cares about is 40 hours a week, nothing more, nothing less and he doesn't care how they come.

I like the idea of taking Monday and Friday off...

2009-10-24 02:14:56 PM
I cram my work week into the first two hours of the week, then kind of sit back and surf the web for the next 38 hours.

Crosshair: At my current job I get flex time. Much nicer than overtime IMHO.

I don't get either. Then again I do get a fat bonus if I complete projects early. Then I take a month or so off.

My wife get's flex time. My brother has it the best though, he can bank some time as flex OR choose to take it as overtime. People with kids tend to grab the flex time. People without kids tend to take extra money. Works out for everyone.

In Michigan, my dad works for the state, and they have "furlough days", aka one day off per pay period where dad doesn't come into work and doesn't get paid time off. Since he's gearing up for retirement in a year or two anyway, he's pretty happy with having a three-day weekend once every two weeks. Mom's happy because they have "day dates" where they spend the day together doing stuff like gardening and going out to a movie and then dinner.

Most days I'm in from 7:30 to about 6:00 anyway, so if my boss offered me four 10-hour days it would save me time overall.
It would cost me a full day of Farking tho.

Yeah, OK. I mean IDGAF what they do but polygamy most certainly is practiced in Mormonism. It is one of the fundamental tenants of their belief system, both in this life and their version of the afterlife.

Around here all they do is piss and moan about how terribly they're treated and how completely unappreciated they are. It's been said that CA state workers are the new Jews.
At least by me it has.

Did you hear that from a friend of a friend back in college from a professor's aunt's neice?

I find it amusing that the Mormons are arguing against gay marriage because the institution is a mix of both secular and religious practices, while one of their prophets, Brigham Young, successfully got out of paying alimony by claiming that only his first marriage (of 53) was recognized by the state and secular while the other "Celestial Marriages" were purely religious and non-secular.

Mainstream Mormons in the official LDS church do not practice polygamy. A few offshoot cults do. If you want to keep up on the state of polygamy, the Salt Lake Tribune has an entire section of the local paper devoted to it: Link (new window)

But they did for many years, and then refused to admit it for many more. Furthermore, I don't believe they've actually denounced Brigham Young or Joseph Smith for it.

One of the better ways to work a 4 day work week is, first week Tuesday to Friday with Saturday and Sunday off. Then the next week, one works Monday to Thursday with Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. That way you get every weekend off and every other weekend is a 4 day weekend.

True. But hey, it's Mormonism, it doesn't have to make sense!

Considering all the things prohibited by the Mormon faith if you didn't have the possibility of extra sex with a bunch of different women the extra days off would be meaningless.

Well, marrying 53 women, some of them as teenagers, and then when one of them wants a divorce, declaring in court that 52 of those marriages were illegal and void just so that you don't have to pay alimony is pretty worthy of denouncement. Or denouncement plus a cockpunch. Your choice.

I remember in school one of the things they told us we would be able to do in the future was be able to produce more and end up with only having to work a four day week.

This isn't quite like I pictured it.

I suppose neither will be the flying cars.

Meh. It was a century ago. It's also only worthy of denouncement if you think alimony, as a concept, should still exist.

And if the US didn't have absurd rules about marriage on the books in the first place, then he wouldn't have been able to make his argument.

No, it's worthy if you think alimony should have existed "a century ago". You know, back when women didn't have educations, jobs, the ability to earn a living wage, and were married to some 60 year old "prophet" in their teens and knocked up.

And if the US didn't have absurd rules about marriage on the books in the first place, then he wouldn't have been able to make his argument.

Absurd rules like "you can only marry one person at a time"?

belowner: Well, it is an arbitrary rule. If all of the parties agree to it, why not practice polygamy?

Fundamental flaw in your premise: one of the parties doesn't agree. There are three parties in any marriage contract - spouse A, spouse B, and the State - and the State doesn't agree to extend marriage rights and benefits to large groups. And it's not arbitrary until you can come up with a default rule for who's a medical and legal proxy in a three or more person marriage where one's incapacitated.

Whats up with all the Mormon threads lately? I recently transplanted to Utah, and I gotta tell you, Mormons are truly some of the most genuinely nice people I've ever met. Especially the return missionaries. The rest of the country could learn a thing or two about how to treat people on a day to day basis from Utahns. Very cultured and industrious people too.

No need to practice any more, since they finally got it right. I've seen plenty of polygamists at the truck stops, and markets on the outskirts of Vegas and elsewhere.

P.S. WTF is an "athiest", and what does it have to do with anything at all?

When I was in college I dated a drop dead gorgeous Mormon and she had an identical twin sister. The sister would go out with some times and I finally realized why Polygamy rocks.
