man that was an awful movie.. (mac and me).. wasn' that the one with the crippled kid?

hmmm...I really do wonder about the implication of anarchy? maybe its just the aliens way of making us comfortable with their invasion? Why ET?

MagnetBox: I'm not sure... I've managed to block most of it out of my memory. The only part I can't seem to shake is the scene with the alien dressed as a teddy bear doing a dance routine on the counter at McDonald's.

Although the puzzles were lame, and one was already done for us (thanks a hell of a lot, Matt XE), it was still more fun than playing the Atari ET game.

I'm with Hawk24 - have never seen the movie. (Or Ghostbusters for that matter.) However I did read the book.

The best alien was Meathead from Meatballs the movie.

Mac & me was brilliant, especially when the alien was dressed up as a Teddy-bear & breakdanced on the counter at McDonalds.

DownSouth: Never, and I mean NEVER, confuse Meatballs with Meatballs 2!!! (heh)

Re: Mac and Me

I will never forget my embarassment after watching "Mac and ME" aand complaining how fake looking the kid in the wheelchair was. Turns out he really was disabled...sigh. How can someone who really is handicapped not even act being handicapped believably? That is just how bad this movie was.

Oh, and the dance scene in the McDonalds made me cry.

Numberz
See a little movie called 'Revenge Of The Killer Tomatoes' and you will see where they stole that product placement bit from. By steal, I meant,"Totally Ripped off."

Screw ET and Mac & Me...give me Meathead from Meatballs 2 with Scott Baio.

And Paul Reubens as the loose cannon bus driver...

This is back when Happy Meals were still COOL. Now little kids get a cheap-ass paper sack with stuff drawn on it.

Maybe if they still had the cool containers, my generation would still be buying happy meals instead of super-sized-4000-caloried-mega-combo-meals and Americans wouldn't be so freaking fat.

Or not.

Mac & Me is one of the most blatant ripoffs ever...what was it in place of Reese's Pieces? Coke? Maybe it was pepsi...

The suits never seemed to comprehend the importance of the box. It's like ordering the thirty-dollar steak and getting no sprig of parsley on it. You weren't going to eat the parsley, but it's still an integral part of the formula.

I have never seen a Happy Meal being compared to a $30 steak dinner. Don't think I ever will again either.

But yeah, I agree with Shower_in_my_socks maybe if they had better Happy Meals, with better toys instead of the latest Disney crapfest people would want to buy more of them. I used to work at McD's (pity me) and they haven't gotten rid of all the Happy Meal boxes yet, at least, not of November 2001. They'd still bring 'em out for a couple promos. The Happy Meal boxes I liked the most didn't have that sadistic clown on it, or any of his demonic minions.

I remember Mac Tomight. I dressed as him for halloween.
Walking down the street I got lots of cars honking their horns.

On another note.. wasn't there another film a little bit before ET called the Extraterrestrial? I know that's the rest of the name of ET, but wasn't there another movie shortly before that?

ET was great, i laughed, i cried - it changed my life. No, really! Even when I watch it now, it chokes me up - but why the *&%$(* did they digitally replace shotguns with walkie-talkies in that one scene?!

I had an E.T. Atari game. Never could figure out how to play the damn thing. The only thing I could get him to do was fall in a hole and smell a freakin flower. Then he would grin.
Does anyone else remember this game????

I remember this movie fondly and got tears in my eyes when I opened a gift from my parents on Christmas with the DVD boxed set of it. I immediately popped it in because I hadn't seen it in a few years, and was transformed back into a 5 year old.

Those action figures that got released for the E.T. anniversary are freakin' SCARY looking. And I'm still wondering why the Elliot figure looks like Elian Gonzalaz.

Bring back the boxes, McDonald's!

He's ragging on how simple some of these puzzles are, and they do seem brain-dead simple. But it's much better to give little children simple things they can do successfully and get them accustomed to winning, than it is to give them things that are too difficult and reward them for their valiant failure.

*Sigh* Do I need to call the i-Mockery guy in here to break things up?

Wldncrzy14 - Break things up? Why would I need to do such a thing? Why, I'm sure Robert doesn't have the time to fight at the moment... for he's working REALLY HARD at putting up another boobie gallery. After all, collecting boobie pics is much harder than writing, as well all know. And Matt? Pashaw, he's at the grocery store trying to find some food product that expired 10 years ago so he can cash in big time on those $3.00 pop-unders, which will help cover his medical bill. But hey, even if he dies, it's ok... UGO, er, I mean X-E will live on.

Yes indeed, I see no fights going on in this thread. Carry on people, carry on. :)

Liloleme I have the ET Atari game also. I got as far as getting the phone put together, and some running from the FBI guys, but I think that was about it. Anyone remember the review about 'atari's ten dubmest games' or something to that effect? I know the ET game was in that.

2003-03-18 11:17:35 PM
Liloleme:

YES, I remember the ET Atari game. It was the worst game ever made (Seriously, I saw an article on this topic once a few years ago). I never could do anything but fall into holes in that game. This game made crap like "Back to the Future" look like friggin GOLD. (For those who don't know, that Nintendo game sucked badly too).

Why is it that games based on movies generally suck and movies based on games generally suck? hmm...

I like the commercial, I'll bet those little girls ended up on Springer: "E.T. be going home with me, Jerry!"

2003-03-19 03:22:33 AM
Rearview - ET is NOT the worst game in existance. Believe me. Google for "Moorhen 3 : Chicken Chase". It's a GBA game. Find the ROM and experience the horror for yourself.
