Legs too long, booties too small, hair too straight. Why not make a Black Barbie that has a badonkadonk, pretty cornrows or braids, and some muscle tone?

I love Black women for how they look, and I kind of don't like the idea that Black girls are going to get this Barbie body image instead of seeing something that affirms that it's OK to look like a Black girl instead of striving to look like a skinny, straight-haired, white girl with dark skin.

Good that they're going this direction, but bad that they can't drop the whole Barbie shape even in the 21st century.

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Don't tell anybody. Ready? O.K., here, let me whisper it to you so nobody else hears:

White girls don't really look like Barbie either.

Keep it quiet, though.

Heh, when I was little I had a black Action Man (British GI Joe), some people got really angry when they saw it. I didn't care, I thought he was cool, helped by the fact that he and his kit were better made than the rest of my Action men.
In hindsight I think he was an American GI Joe repackaged, as he had an M16 and tiger stripe camo kit.

"In 1997, Mattel collaborated with cookie maker Nabisco to create Oreo Fun Barbie. The black version of the doll, which sported an Oreo-shaped purse, was criticized by some who noted that "Oreo" is a derogatory term in the black community. The word is used to describe someone who is perceived as black on the outside and white on the inside."

Congrats to the closet white supremacist that snuck that one by management.

"Others disagree with critics who say the dolls should have had more natural black hairstyles, such as afros or braids."

Not to be nitpicky, but I see just as many black women with straight hair or extensions.

Total BS! First we can't have a illegal alien costume (w/ a green card) and now peeps are biatching about the black barbie. Give me a break. The only thing I see getting the shaft is the 1st admendment. Is the whole damn planet jealous of white people and jews?

When I was young I had both black and white barbie dolls. I never put much into the fact that the black dolls looked like me or any of that, I was a young girl playing with her dolls. Why do people put so much emphasis on the color of dolls. Mine all ended up the same way anyway, bald and naked at the bottom on my toy bin.

Actress Nia Long, who appears in comedian Chris Rock's new documentary, "Good Hair," recently talked about the issue on CNN.

"Historically, the Afrocentric features have not been celebrated," Long said. "This makes us question the integrity of our beauty standard for ourselves."

This doll was designed by a straight-haired black woman. I think the Wonder Stereotype Barbie you're looking for is a special edition doll that went out of style half a century ago.
