Crossroads isn't technically deserted, just bankrupt and mostly deserted. There's still a Chik-fil-A and a Spencers.

Cool! We can sell it to Wayne Coyne and he can fill it with bubbles, streamers, spherical bathrooms hanging from the ceiling, a ball pit and a bunch of Japanese girls in robot costumes.

Man, you couldn't believe the crowds in that place back in the mid/late 70's when it first opened. Lost their major tenants and could only get second tier retailers to replace them and as mentioned above, it went "ghetto." It probably needs to be refurbished and replenished with some new tenants.

Contrary to what the article implies, the "surrounding" area isn't that bad or really impacted the problems they had. The mall was really always an island onto itself and it was a "destination" shopping experience anyway as it was located right off two major expressways in the area. (It didn't ever rely on the folks in the immediate area for patronage.)

Man if I ever won a rediculus amount of money in the lottery, like say take home of over 100 million, I'd buy a failing or abondoned shopping mall and turn it into a zombie amusment park/live action rpg.

There was a mall at the edge of Kansas city a few years back that housed the "Kansas City Children's museum" (really just a dingy glorified play place, but my then 5yr old loved it), a welfare office, and more or less NOTHING ELSE, though they still kept all the entrances open. I'd never felt quite so "post-apocalyptic" as i did wandering through that place. I'm not sure what caused the businesses to shut down, but most of them seemed to have done so in an awful hurry, leaving signage, fixtures, furniture, freezer cases, and in some cases even napkin and straw dispensers behind. It gave the impression of a place that had been full and bustling maybe one or two days ago (even though it had apparently been YEARS). Creepy as all fark but fun to explore

2009-10-21 12:47:30 PM
Isn't this the mall where a woman was tossed out for "dressing up like a slut" according to a security guard, but she bought the dress AT THAT SAME MALL!!??

I don't know why I would remember such a strange story like that.

/Either the story was ten years old, or her hair was...

Don't worry Oklahoma City, Omaha has it's own Crossroads mall that is mostly deserted, and is considered the "Ghetto Mall". Although it was kinda cool when Dillards had their discount store there. I think they sell their off season stuff to third world countries now.
