Rod Stewart is the poster boy for rockers who rocked hard and then went lame-ass MOR/AC.

How many years has it been since he blew a football team and had to get his stomach pumped?

He's one of my favorite gay icons.

I like the Steve Marriot stuff. It makes me Shimmy, Shake, Frug AND Boogaloo.

Anything Rod Stewart did with the Faces and his Mecury years are the farking shiat! Awesome stuff! After that Rod got greed and tried to jump on any trend he saw walk by.

Interesting fact: They boys all admitted that everything they did with the Faces was done while very drunk...Who'da thunk it!

I remember reading years ago some critics comment that:

"Stewart's first three solo albums sound like great Faces records and the Faces records sound like un-used Rod Stewart out-takes'

Gotta say there's some truth to this.

The Faces coulda/shoulda been up there close to The Stones and The Who - maybe the Springsteen/E Street Band of their day - but they couldn't seem to keep out/get out of their own way.

Not a hater either, still have the copy of Gasoline Alley I got in 1971 and have most of the Faces stuff, too. Saw them play in Chicago on Halloween back in '75. the Mahavishnu Orchestra warmned up; how's that for mis-match?

Sounds a lot like the studio version on "every picture..."

I love that great distorted guitar tone, and the fat fat bass.

When I was in high school (early 70s) we used to hang out at a pizza place in town that had those jukebox selection things at every table. We played this tune at least twice every visit.

They actually toured with a bar and a bartender on stage so they wouldn't have to go off stage to get a drink. Later copied by The Quireboys.

I am a HUGE Quireboys fan! I do believe A Bit Of What You Fancy is one of the most under-rated albums ever made.

The Faces are criminally underrated. They were just a great, kickass rock & roll band. People forget Rod Stewart used to rock his ass off. If you ever get a chance to catch their BBC "Sounds For Sunday" 1973 TV performance, it's terrific.

I'm a big fan of Ronnie Lane's post-Faces stuff, too. I'd like to snag the original Slim Chance Band albums, but they're tough to find & expensive if and when you do.

Way underappreciated group, good find subby. Funny how when he took over for Kieth Moon in The Who everyone thought Kenney Jones was a 'nobody'.

/I don't care who he blew
//as long as he stays away from my junk

John Buck 41: Rod Stewart is the poster boy for rockers who rocked hard and then went lame-ass MOR/AC.

Some of his stuff from the '80s is just cringe-worthy. Let me give you my "Love Touch"? Jesus.

But hey, at least he laid out Eric Clapton's career path for him.

Damn they're just insane. That is so rock. Check out the guitarist sneaking a big swig from the bottle at 4:08.

Rod was never in the small faces, just in the faces. A different band. The small faces were better in my opinion. I feel much better, for saying that.

Oh, hell yeah. Small Faces were fantastic, led by the late, sometimes great Steve Marriott (Humble Pie was a kick-ass band in Faces mode too). I can't recommend this compilation highly enough:
