Cumulonimbus is one of those miscegenated clouds, an unnatural hybrid of two different species. Clouds should stick to their own kind. There's a law about this in Louisiana.

When sunlight is diffused through thin clouds with uniform water droplets, it produces vivid colors like these in the photo above-a phenomenon called iridescence. Photoshop.

When I was six, we lived on a farm in northern California and in the fall, the clouds would gather heavy and low across the sky. My brother and I would ride our bikes out to do the chores. One day, there was a particularly large and dark cloud hanging over us. He looks up and says, "That's the devil." "Nuh-uh." "Yeah-huh. That's the devil, he's following us."
I got scared and pedalled away as fast as I could down the road. Kept looking up and the cloud was still there. Started seeing eyes and a mouth, all open and shiat. Scared the hell out of me that it was following me. It passed but the memory of that afternoon's always stayed with me though I could never again recall the face I saw in the cloud.
Until now.

PPL_Wannabe: The HDR, it burns.

Yep.

HDR is the new toy for amateurs to pretend they know how to use the equipment. God forbid there is an area of shadow. Only when 100% of the image is exposed for every detail can they be satisfied.

#1 reeks of both HDR and heavy use of Graduated ND filter (the buildings from top to bottom give it away).
