Sources say the cabinet meeting's atmosphere was bubbly with the prospect of deep-6ing global warming. The depths of discussion were not known immediately, as a tide of secrecy flowed over..

Shouldn't they have signed it on land projected not to be flooded by climate change? I doubt that they will live underwater, more than likely they will move to dry land.

What the fark is a Maldives?

And at the same time they are getting and seeking billions in resort development dollars and Euros. Maybe they should be looking for billions to move somewhere higher.

Should be more concerned that the place sinks under the weight of all their bullshiat.

Fact: most land is 4-5 ft above sea level

Worst-case, emo-induced prediction: a 7 INCH rise in sea level in 100 years.

Somebody is AW'ing in the Maldives

Isn't the planet cooling right now, so an increase in snowfall should actually LOWER ocean levels?

Wait, which global climate theory is fashionable today again ?

Odd that we can still see the last century's high water marks around the world without scuba gear.

Of course, what no one has mentioned is that after all the hysteria there is still the fact that sea levels haven't risen 1 cm.

It's actually a very good place to go diving.

Assuming you like warm, clear water.

Which I don't.

Over the last century, sea levels have risen about 20 centimetres (8 in); further rises of the ocean could threaten the existence of Maldives, being the lowest country in the world, with a maximum natural ground level of only 2.3 m (7½ ft) with the average being only 1.5 m above sea level. Current estimates place sea level rise at 59 cm by the year 2100.

Yeah, it's clearly just a publicity stunt from someone who's just an attention whore and not at all worried about his country going underwater.

2009-10-17 03:17:53 PM
To be honest I dont see where the fail is with this one. Yes it's a stunt, but its a stunt that's worked, you're reading this after all and it's cropping up on major news sites and networks.

Any significant sea level rise will wipe out the atols of the Maldives, it averages only 1.5M above sea level after all. It doesnt have to be a complete inudation of water either, it only has to rise up enough to get into what ground water there is and then they're farked.

100 years = 20cm
1.5m = 150 cm

15 / 2 = 7.5

so in 750 years, THEY ARE farkED!

it's part of a long attempt at extortion.

BTW, The Maldives does not have s source of ground water now. So, according to you, they are already farked.

In their defense, they were blithering idiots before they started screaming about man made global warming. In fact, only blithering idiots would fall for it.

1) Tides, storms etc. (The tidal range is around 1m apparently (new window)). You dont have to cover the place just raise the water high enough that a good storm will scour it off the map.
2) Your assuming that the rise in sea level is constant.

What is it about the debate that automatically leads to insults, and not a rational discussion? I have a THEORY on this, but I don't want to commit just yet.

Son, it is a big planet, but there is not enough water on it in any form(liquid, solid, gas) to raise the sea level that much.

I thought I heard something about the polar ice caps actually growing in size, our warmest year being 1998, and that it seems temps may go down over the next 30 years or so (based on Pacific Ocean warming/cooling cycles and the sun putting out less energy). Seems that ocean levels may actually drop here for a bit, no?

There is no money to be had by anybody with your line of thinking. The green weenies will never get us all living in tents and walking every where with your notions.

That aside, yes, you are pretty much right on the mark.
