(NJ.com)   After only 4 episodes, ABC's FlashForward is so cheesy that its starting to border on self-parody. The only way it could be worse is if it was on NBC   (nj.com) divider line 122

Last night's episode was just horrible. I mean...wow. This show stinks.

2009-10-16 03:11:29 PM
I liked last nights episode. The one before was quite goofy, I think they need to tighten up the writing a bit, but last nights was pretty decent, it has a lot of potential.

DamnYankees: Last night's episode was just horrible.

It did have one of the best lines of all time in it, though:

"I was an invincible fearless black guy... like Shaft or Bryant Gumble."

The dialog on this show is atrocious and most of the acting is equally bad. I am trying really hard to like this show, but it keeps hitting me in the face with obviousness. A little subtlety would be nice once in a while.

This. I haven't seen last night's show yet; DVR'd it.

I've got the last two episodes tivoed- are you telling me not to bother?

I wouldn't. At this point I would recommend everyone hold off until season 1 is over. And if it has good reviews and people say "it really got better", then dive in. No point following it now.

I'm running out of television to watch. I've finally jettisoned Heros and Grey's farking Anatomy, and the bastards at ABC cancelled Pushing Daisies..

I'm down to How I Met Your Mother, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Law and Order reruns.

LOST! Watch Lost. It's still awesome.

Oh. I thought you meant in general. Ok, right now?

Modern Family
Parks and Recreation
Mad Men
The Office

All still solid. But ya - not a lot of great dramas on right now. Friday Night Lights comes back in a few weeks, though.

I'm not sold on Modern Family yet but I do watch it on Hulu. I prefer Community for a new comedy though I understand why some people dislike it.

I think Castle is a lot of fun (especially the last episode--best case EVER).

If you were watching FlashForward and you watch Lost then I have no idea how you're not already watching Fringe.

I don't watch TV except to rent the occasional old series on DVD and was intrigued enough by the premise of FlashForward to plug in the digital convertor and pick it up OTA. So I was looking around for the antenna and asked myself what the hell was I doing. I don't think I'm missing much.

I watch Lost and FF and I haven't seen Fringe. Just haven't got around to it. I hear its kind of gross.

Modern Family is the sleeper hit of the Fall so far. If you haven't watched this show yet, do yourself a favor and get caught up...Don't know how much long term potential it has as far as story lines go but its a good take on the fake reality genre.

2009-10-16 05:17:39 PM
First episode: A
Second Episode: C+
Third Episode: D
Fourth Episode: F-

Seriously, I hate this show so much but I know I'm probably going watch the whole season and get angrier and angrier after each episode.

Lloyd Braun: Seriously, I hate this show so much but I know I'm probably going watch the whole season and get angrier and angrier after each episode.

You didn't like the ending phone call last night, where a random British person calls one of the heroes and almost word for word says "I think we need to talk. After all we just pulled off the greatest disaster in the history of the world! MUWAHAHA!"

It was seriously written that badly.

2009-10-16 05:20:58 PM
I watched he first episode, and have not been inspired to watch any more.

I am, however, royally ticked that I missed the return of CASTLE and do
not have DVR.

Well, sorta, in the way that some gross things happened on X-Files too, but I've never really thought of it being particularly gross.

I don't watch Fringe because it's going to be cancelled.

Why yes. Yes he is.

Zombie Hitler: I don't watch Fringe because it's going to be cancelled.

Well, yes - if this seasons keeps going the way it started.

I cautiously enjoyed the first season, but they have Not gotten off to a good start (in my subjective nothing opinion.)

Agreed. And I also really like Big Bang Theory. I identify with Leonard.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: I like Glee.

Agreed. When it's good, it's really good. The problem is, they still don't seem to know what they want the show to be. It'd be nice if the tone was a little more consistent, instead of making the show feel like it was written by three people (which, from everything I've read, I think is actually the case).

Community has been good too. Other than that...it's been stuff on USA, House, and waiting for the winter when Lost and Chuck come back.

2009-10-16 05:45:26 PM
Good current shows:

Fringe - started out like an xfiles knock off but got much better when they revealed their major story arc.

Sons of Anarchy - first season was a little uneven but the current one is coming together nicely.

Glee - very entertaining batshiat crazy verion of High School Musical

How I Met Your Mother - best comedy on the air right now

Dexter - this seaon's been really good so far with Dexter trying to deal with married life and naked John Lithgow slicing pretty women up is disturbing as hell

Castle is fun mainly due to Fillion. The cases themselves are kind of forgettable. I have heard his costume for the Halloween episode is a hoot.

Dollhouse is seriously uneven but it is interesting now seeing where the story ends up in the episode set 10 years into the future.

2009-10-16 05:46:00 PM
Meh I only watch FlashFoward because there is jack shiat else on at that time and I am waiting around to watch Fringe.

2009-10-16 05:51:04 PM
FF is my feeble attempt to fill the void of no LOST until 2010. And last night's FF did nothing to further the plot. I'll give it one more week to "wow" me and then I'm out.

Fringe at least has a good "monster of the week" story on the non-meta-narrative episodes. I really loved Episode 4 of season 2 (two weeks ago, as Olivia remembered her conversations with Bell).

If you want to make it interesting, just take a shot every time someone says flash forward. The average is about 8 per epi.

Leven74: If you want to make it interesting, just take a shot every time someone says flash forward. The average is about 8 per epi.

Add in a shot every time they show the exact same FF of the wife and of Fiennes, and you'll die of alcohol poisoning.

Fringe. You should be watching Fringe. Thursday night is 1000x better than every other night of television for some reason

I've never seen anything on that show that can match Always Sunny.

Zombie Hitler: I don't watch Fringe because it's going to be cancelled.

That's the problem -- it's on Fox and it doesn't suck, which means it will probably get jerked around and then cancelled. That's what Fox does.

The characters are much better? IASIP is hilarious, but its empty calories. HIMYM is like Scrubs, in that it is both hilarious and has characters with dramatic weight and real personalities.

ok, here's the deal on Flashforward: we as a couple LOVE LOST, and at the first sniff of flashforward (heard about it about a year ago) we were excited to get on board the next mindf train.

But...there's just something about it. We delayed watching the first one by several days for no reason we could articulate.. but when we finally watched it, we were both like "huh. that was pretty good, that was alright" but each episode since we've repeated this pattern of "meh, not tonight.. what else do we have on tivo"

So far, i give it an "eh, it was just alright for me, dog"

Heh, pretty much the only 3 I'm watching now...well and The Office of course.

Although I'm digging SG:U - I didn't watch past the original series so this is fairly fresh but I feel like I have a lot to catch up on.

Wait, did you just use Parks and Recreation as an example of a "solid" show? Unless you meant as solid as a log of my shiat, you need to re-evaluate. That show is nowhere near the realm of funny.

I have watched it this year. Amy Pohler is weak, as is most of the supporting cast. For this show to work, they'd need some really clever writing like 30 Rock.
