Wow, they look like potato chips with an Olympic logo.

2009-10-16 11:06:58 AM
I find them pretty cool looking, personally.

2009-10-16 11:12:46 AM
You don't need to get cute and artsy with the design. An Olympic medal is pretty freaking cool on it's own.

2009-10-16 12:14:14 PM
Yeah, they're farking ugly all right. And they look like potato chips from the side.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

2009-10-16 12:20:33 PM
I like the designs on the front, but making them all wavy and lumpy is just weird.

2009-10-16 12:26:51 PM
Each one is replicating part of a large First Nations artwork. It's a very local take on the design. I really like it.

I clicked thinking "nope, there's been some plenty bad ones lately -- this one can't be any worse". I was in error.

They look like Pringles.

2009-10-16 12:39:47 PM
I actually think they're cool looking.

I wonder how they sit against a person's chest...

/favourite medals were the ones that were rings/discs with hole in middle

2009-10-16 12:40:52 PM
I kinda like 'em.

2009-10-16 12:42:31 PM
They should just hand out giant sized nugs to the winner.

C'mon, it's Vansterdam.

2009-10-16 12:46:26 PM
The_Sponge: I like the designs on the front, but making them all wavy and lumpy is just weird.

Seconded. They were pretty damn cool until I saw the side view.

2009-10-16 12:46:43 PM
I like them.

It's like they went back in time to ancient Greece during the first Olympics with the metalwork. Summoning the true Olympic spirit to modern times and whatnot.

The medals weren't geometrically perfect then, were they? (not a rhetorical question, I really don't know)

2009-10-16 12:49:28 PM
I love the waviness. That's the best part.

2009-10-16 12:49:52 PM
They remind me of oyster shells.

/Damn it, now I want oysters for lunch.

2009-10-16 12:50:12 PM
I don't know, I kind of like them too. Once you get over the initial surprise from the "someone accidentally left them on a hot stove" side view, they're really not too bad.

2009-10-16 12:50:45 PM
I like 'em, wavy edge and all.

2009-10-16 12:52:14 PM
Looks pretty cool, Every Olympics has its own thing remember.

Original ancient Olympics didn't have medals, only laurel leaf wreaths for the winners.

Medals are a modern invention (Olympic medals)

My exact thoughts as well. Had to go back and look for a side view cause I wasn't sure what people were talking about. Not that I have to worry about ever touching one though.

It's a cool concept, and it's not the Turin doughnut from '06.

So the natives couldn't make flat metal?

2009-10-16 01:01:58 PM
They are cool...have a look at the Salt Lake City ones...they are bloody horrible, and ya, the doughnut/CD shaped ones from Turin are lame too...I think they look good. The waveyness is supposed to represent the water/mountains etc...

2009-10-16 01:06:00 PM
They couldn't make them flat in 2006 either.

At least these don't have holes in them.

2009-10-16 01:06:31 PM
Dude, this is what happens when you leave audio CDs olympic metals on your car's dashboard while in the sun.

2009-10-16 01:07:07 PM
Rev.K: They should just hand out giant sized nugs to the winner.

C'mon, it's Vansterdam.

And get rid of the bronze medal itself, and just give the third-place winner/team a Japadog.

2009-10-16 01:07:52 PM
Those are ugly.

Ugly enough that I wouldn't want one - even if I did win something (which would never happen)

2009-10-16 01:12:11 PM
I think they are cool, I wonder who the subby is?

(Some Idiot)

ah...that explains it.

2009-10-16 01:12:25 PM
I like them. Unique and thoughtful.

Plus they have more metal in them than other medals previous.

2009-10-16 01:14:40 PM
Shrinky-Dinks?

Olympic medals made like Shrinky-Dinks?

These will definitely look good in the pawn shops next to the other Olympic Medals.

Link broken. Anyone have pics?

Winter olympics medals have always been ugly. I remember being disgusted by those crystal ones back in the 90s.

2009-10-16 01:41:19 PM
I don't care much for the design, but also can't see why subby is so worked into a lather over this. "Some idiot," the sick tag, the headline... how about posting a pic of that "This is an outrage!" guy?

I mean, it's only the Winter Olympics.

So the natives sucked at metalwork then. I think I see why they are "First Nations" and not the "Current" nation.

CatfoodSpork: Winter olympics medals have always been ugly. I remember being disgusted by those crystal ones back in the 90s.

Albertville's medals were kind of cool. The granite based ones fromt he Lillehammer games were nifty as well.

Salt Lake City's ugly lumps, OTOH were hideous.

Seriously. I highly doubt the submitter is in any danger of winning one, why get so worked up over how they look?

Salt Lake City:

Eh. Not too bad.

Turin:

Another "eh."

Vancouver ones look like bad 80's Ocean Pacific button-down shirt prints, and the metallurgist has something against flatness.

they are better than the Olympic Donuts from Turin

Bleh. They look like melted chocolate coins with that wavy look. Not impressed.

2009-10-16 01:56:42 PM
I like em.

Suck it haters.

2009-10-16 02:01:17 PM
Oh noes! They aren't flat! I can't stomach anything that is different!

2009-10-16 02:02:29 PM
As long as we get the men's olypic hockey ones, they could be deep-fried mars bars for all I care.

So it's sort of a affirmative-action medal?

They look like bad photoshops of real-world objects.

Or they look like something that you'd see in the Sims 3.

2009-10-16 02:05:27 PM
I don't know, I kind of like it.

2009-10-16 02:07:49 PM
Oh look, more native art. Grand.
