I've sort of wondered about this idea at my workplace before. Luckily I don't have to worry. The other day everyone got an e-mail that said "If there is ANY chance you should call 911, you should have damn well called 911 about 5 minutes ago. Are you farking stupid!?" Glad to know they aren't that farking retarded.

Okay, who accidentally drinks oven cleaner? Doesn't that shiat come in a spray bottle or something?

After reading the article, let me fix that headline for subby:

Woman reprimanded by employer for calling 911 without permission after being poisoned with oven cleaner by one of her employees. Difficulty: She was the shift manager and most senior employee in the store

Left out some important stuff there.

2009-10-14 03:09:32 AM
The reason she was reprimanded was because of:

Her side: She called 911 without permission and damaged the good name of Wendy's.

Their side: She didn't inform the district office in a timely manner that she had filed a police report.

Sorry, going with her side on this one. That might've been what you meant to say, but the fact of the matter is that she might've been a bit more worried about the, you know, getting poisoned and attempted murder than reporting in.

Oh, and good job on keeping Wendy's corporate name away from negative publicity!

Wendy's, YOU GOTS TO AX PERMISSIONS!

When it comes to PR, Wendy's is all thumbs.

"One of the employees poured oven cleaner in my drink"
"What did you do?"
"I drank it before I knew"
"Excellent"
"What? Did you tell them to do that?"
"...Maybe. Just relax. It'll all be over soon. There's nothing you can do now"
"I'm calling 911"
"What! No! Don't do that!"
"I'm doing it."
"Don't put me on hold!"
*silly hold music*
"They're on their way"
"Oh you're in so much trouble."

Heh heh

Ok you tell me, then.

She says she was called to a meeting by the district manager a few days later, expecting a discussion on safety in the workplace.
Instead, Barahona says she was reprimanded in front of her peers.

Non-union? That's what you get.

2009-10-14 08:03:46 AM
FTFA: Pruitt says the district manager did not fault Barahona for calling 911; rather, he reminded store managers to call the district office as well in the event of an emergency.

Our corporate policy is the same. Call 911 immediately but also give a head's up to anyone above you (even a direct supervisor) just so ya know... asses are covered.

Not at the same time even.. just as soon as humanly possible remember to fill in your bosses about wtf happened.

Seems she forgot a step

Step 1) Ingest Oven Cleaner
Step 2)
Step 3) Get them jelly rolls on the internets and profit!

If she was union she would have got a "warning" from couple of guys named Rocco and Guido, because she didn't call the ambulance service owned by their brother, and also a warning to do less work at work, because she was making the person who poisoned her look like a slacker. These are the people who will be doing the next census, incidentally.

lol she was "supervising" My guess? Eating her third cheeseburger and had to wash it down.

See, that line also gets me.
Waa waaaa I was "reprimanded"
No, you were informed, again, of the company's policies.

That != Reprimanding.

We give anyone some freakin' 'feedback' these days and it's "stop oppressing me and humiliating me in front of others!!! I'm important!!!!"

Take the fact you're not dead, still have a job, and now are informed (most likely for the 2nd time) about how to handle this and STFU and GBTW.

And eat more of those Bacon Burgers you've been pilfering.

How much did she drink? You'd think after the first swig, you'd take a hint.

The only important factor here is that she was poisoned. Who cares whether she gets reprimanded or not; some ignorant asshole decided to put industrial strength degreaser in her farking stomach.

Alan Pruitt, President of Wendy's of Michigan and Florida

That's on odd gig.

What moron puts oven cleaner in someone's drink? There are less obvious ways to kill someone, ya know.

2009-10-14 08:17:24 AM
When I worked at Blockbuster Video there was this guy outside the store that clearly had a gun. He was harassing some woman that was on the sidewalk, probably his girlfriend. Anyway this lady comes into the store screaming and balling to call the cops because her boyfriend was going to kill her, so I called. My manager came out 5 seconds later freaking out because I called 911, he screamed at me because he said that now he had all this "f'n paperwork" that he had to do and that Blockbuster was going to look bad. I basically walked off the job right then in there. Imagine what Blockbuster would have looked like if the guy did kill his girlfriend in front of the store? Probably pretty bloody and gross is my guess.

I picked a hell of a week to stop drinking oven cleaner.

Sorry, but if your niece smells bleach and says, "hey, that smells like it would taste good," then it won't be a big loss. I mean, sorry to be harsh, but come the fark on.

That whole sentence is either a massive "I see what you did there" invitation, or inadvertently hilarious.

Either way, Pedobear says "Giggity".

Whichever employee did it is an idiot, how many people did they think the cops would have to interview to narrow it down?

And the headline should be changed from "accidentally drinking" to "having her drink spiked with".

Not buying from wendy's fark em. I don;t own their stock thank god. Bad PR for calling 911? Wendy's, what kind of stupid shiat is that how about bad PR for asking permission to call 911 dip shiats.

How about the bad PR that comes from interfering in an investigation of the poisoning of one of your employees an assistant manager no less.

This is why, if some big shiat goes down at work, and a few days later you get called into the office, you record that meeting!

2009-10-14 08:40:58 AM
hmm...are you saying that some management is a bit self-oriented?

nah, say it isn't so.

people are selfish, and those in authority have the power to put that selfishness in motion.

find yourself a different company to work for,
although, you can't guarantee the same thing won't happen.
selfish natures are universal.

and BTW...you can be SURE they will be "upset" now that it in the news and they have your statement.

/but it sounds like you have a nice lawsuit pending...
