It often creates a problem when they move into MOS training after basic training because they are essentially still minors, and can get into trouble much easier for things like having sex wtaihsomeone older.

He had already completed Basic Training during the summer break between his Junior and Senior years of high school. Once you graduate Basic, that makes you a soldier.

Goverment schools started when most towns were so small there was no way they could support more than one small school house, now most people clive in areas that could support a number of schools. Back when I was in school, everyone and their sister had a chain wallet. The school administrators declared these "weapons" and confiscated them. Our response was to take other everyday objects and label them "weapon". One guy wore a plain white t-shirt that said "weapon" (take it off and it's a strangulation tool), one guy wrote "weapon" on his shoelaces (same), one guy wore a ballpoint pen on a choker (stabbing weapon), etc.

Yeah, I do. Because I get fired if I don't. It's not my job to maintain our network (as several of us have been told many times). The sysadmin and internal IT threatened to sue if we kept fixing our own hardware problems because it was "crossing crafts" and endangering their job security. Maybe I'm biased as someone in my upper-20's who was given a hunting bow & arrow, and told I had to learn to shoot to pass gym class in the late 90's. A student's background should be considered in a case where a student is a certified Eagle Scout, lifesaver, and has passed basic training; especially if he's secured the so-called weapon in a locked part of his personal car parked outside.
