"Harvey Milk Day" will not be a formal state holiday, so government employees will not be given the day off. The bill instead calls for the day to be observed by public schools as a day of special significance. Teachers will be encouraged to conduct exercises recalling Milk's life and contributions to the state.

What the hell? if it's a state holiday, it has to be a day off. I mean, you get a day off on MLK, you get a day off on Chavez's day but we don't a day off for Harvey Milk, that's so gay!

I suppose us "breeders" will have our own day of honor, too? Since, yanno, we're continuing the freakin' species and all.

Hey we used to get President's day off in California schools in the 70's when it was separate presidents. And Columbus Day too when we all thought he was the first person to ever see North America. Or so we were told. MLK didn't count at the time, and these were Bay Area public schools.

Good for Arnie. While he can be a real pig sometimes, he beats his own drum and comes across as a man who possesses some real integrity (a trait rarely permitted in successful politicians, especially Republicans). This doesn't mean he does the right thing all the time, mind you. But I think Milk was such an influential Californian that this is warranted.

CaptainBeer: Hey! Did anyone hear Megan Fox is bi a no-talent flash in the pan attention whore? I'm floored!

I call corporate welfare.

Arnie is a Republican. This is just another reason to have an "Inventory Blowout!", "Everything Must Go!", "Factory Authorized!" sale on furniture and oriental rugs.

MLK has a different meaning in the fruit and nut state huh.

2009-10-13 06:18:35 AM
He's working on a republican ticket, so its not like he would sign off on a gay-day parade. Its a half step but still a big step, considering.

Frankly I'm more curious about the anti-gun ammunition bill he seems to have signed which (despite his party affiliation) may justify the behavior ammo stock piling gun owners...

This goes against the heterosexual agenda.

Sadly, children in public schools will now have even more confusion due to the relentless in-your-face, heterosexual indoctrination.

Strange how all those heterosexual indoctrinating propagandists seem to be of the religious persuasion. Must be something in the holy water.

Can you sue if you make a hetero pass and get shot down? No? Then how in the bloody hell do you anticipate someone doing so for a homosexual pass?

It is so funny to see Schwarzenegger behave as a somewhat reasonable and pragmatic politician - given that it was all not that long ago there was a considerable effort among republicans to change the constitution to allow him to run for president despite his foreign birth, and his election to governorship was one plank in the program to create his bona fides.

I haven't had to blaze trails in politics and society for my rights in this life. This means that I do not sympathize because I can not sympathize. This does not mean that I have an irrational fear every minority that is fighting for its rights.

I do not want to see anyone making out in public. No, not even two 'chicks'. This isn't born from a hatred towards people making out or feeling or thinking they shouldn't be allowed to make out at all based on who or what they are making out with. I base this decision on the concept of a separation of private/personal behavior and public/social behavior.

MLKJR Day as I know it is for everyone who has to fight for the rights that they are already entitled to, and more importantly eliminating enmity in humankind. To me, it's not a problem that other important activists be recognized for their remarkable achievements/martyrdom, but I'm not sure how one decides which person receives this level of recognition.

I'm sure there are plenty of activists who deserve to have their messages heard. I think every day about one or more activists should be about ALL activists and the freedom they fought for, that EVERY person should have. America.

...would probably have a problem with "Alabama gun-nut and international redneck mercenary day", and would not be particularly happy to see one created.

A theoretical Democrat governor who would have to pander to people with liberal values to get re-elected, would probably only apporve of such a day under extreme pressure.

Maybe some dentists will offer discounted cleanings to the gay men whose breath smells like feces from sucking on something that was crammed in their rectum.
That would benefit everyone.

The Laughing Kookaburra: Whew. It's almost as if the only reason he is of note was because of his sexuality

That's like saying the only reason MLK Jr is of note..is because he's black. Yes, he's black. But he accomplished great things in civil rights. As did Harvey Milk, to a lesser extent. That's why he deserves recognition.

Why is that so threatening to so many people? Unless you're part of a minority group who has no power or influence in society, you're not going to understand what a big deal that is.

If gays with bad breath are that big of a public emergency in your area, maybe you shouldn't live in a gay neighborhood.
