I can just wait for the PETA people to start complaining about this. Personally I think it looks like a fake article, but what do I know.

2001-09-17 12:10:45 AM

2001-09-17 12:15:12 AM
that could be totally scary

2001-09-17 12:17:33 AM
Cranky: It's true, I saw an older version of this in Popular Mechanics a few years ago.

2001-09-17 12:21:59 AM
As much as I dislike cockroaches, that is a very evil experiment. When I first was reading it, I thought they were just making robotic cockroaches. But attaching a camera to a live cockroach, and cutting off their wings and antennae? That is just wrong.

2001-09-17 12:22:11 AM
Yep, it's real. Various intelligence agencies around the world want to use these things for spying.

2001-09-17 12:35:59 AM
"They are a little bit smelly, and there's something about the way they move their antennae. But they look nicer when you put a little circuit on their backs and remove their wings."

This would be cool with kittens. Of course, we'd have to get kittens to grow wings first so we could tear them off. And antennae.
Still, though. It would be cool. Or something.

2001-09-17 12:39:23 AM
Rounded_Bits: Hehehe. I comend you, that was rather hilarious.

2001-09-17 12:40:13 AM
Should that be "commend"? Yeah, probably...

2001-09-17 12:43:17 AM
I'd just use something to gather cockroaches and unleash them on my enemies!

2001-09-17 12:44:32 AM
I knew a girl who bought a remore controlled cock.
I knew a girl who smoked a roach.
I knew a Japanese girl.

I guess this story interests me then.

2001-09-17 01:03:11 AM
I think I see the new X10 ads already...

2001-09-17 01:06:33 AM
Bigpeeler: I knew a girl who bought a remote controlled cock.

You said you wouldn't tell anyone about that. Bastard.

2001-09-17 01:21:55 AM

2001-09-17 01:46:16 AM
Wasnt this an X-Files episode? War of the Corphophages I believe the episode was called. All robotic cockroaches.

2001-09-17 01:55:45 AM

2001-09-17 02:06:30 AM
One of those secrets being of course, my lips.

2001-09-17 02:08:17 AM
Kanon: She was a Doctor. And she ended up with the scientist in the wheelchair at the end.... Geekz rule.

2001-09-17 02:12:36 AM
Yeah! What the hell is with all these repeats? I mean, you'd think Drew had asked for all the funniest articles from days past or something.

2001-09-17 03:19:35 AM
Hey, we've got a Bush in the White House, we're going to war again and the Cubbies still suck. I guess Drew is going retro like the rest of the world.

2001-09-17 06:49:42 AM

Bigpeeler: You can tell everyone about your lips. I already have.

2001-09-17 08:27:52 AM
I just picture that cockroach with a little satellite dish on it's back like in the 5th Element. Can you get the NFL ticket on that bad boy?

2001-09-17 09:20:53 AM
they can read the roaches thoughts too: omg the light is on, the light is on, the light is on!

2001-09-17 10:16:12 AM
Who didn't know this was coming:

2001-09-17 11:08:20 AM
In other news, the Second Battalion of the Orkin Counterintelligence Agency has set up operations in the New Orleans apartment of college student Dewey Pfister after a preliminary roach motel sweep of the area. Word from the front indicates there may be a three month old slice of pizza behind the oven. Presently, the area is considered a hotbed of international espionage.

2001-09-17 11:32:01 AM
I just can't help but think about Fifth Element here, anyone else agree?

2001-09-17 11:38:21 AM
Build a better cockroach, and people will beat a path to your door with you. And they'll lock you inside and make sure you never, ever get out.

2001-09-17 12:31:44 PM
Very cool. I want one, I'd call him Clip.

2001-09-17 01:22:16 PM
Japanese university researchers have way too much free time

2001-09-17 01:37:23 PM
Jeeves! A BORG roach!

"Your apartment will be assimilated."

2001-09-17 01:39:34 PM
I tried hookin something like this up to my friend Phil. He's not doin so good (everytime someone fires up the microwave, he pisses his pants and forgets who he is for a half hour).

2001-09-17 02:18:06 PM
Dude, that's too cool. That picture is now my desktop image.

2001-09-17 03:21:47 PM
I see this as the next toy sensation this Christmas.

2001-09-17 04:39:36 PM
holy shiat, this is cruel... cool idea, but still farking sadistic. I wouldn't even mind so much if they "killed" the roaches first and removed their brains or something creepy like that, but it just sounds like they're still alive, and they just take over their limbs for a while.

If you ever get the idea that something might be cruelty to animals, just put a cuddly kitten in the animal's place.

2001-09-17 04:47:57 PM
Why remote-controlled cockroaches? So you can scare the living shiat out of your neat-freak neighbors, of course!

If I ever spotted one of these it would quickly become a 'six-million dollar splat.'

2001-09-17 06:40:28 PM
I hope the CIA takes care that their first spy roach doesn't get hit by a car.

2001-09-17 08:54:16 PM
"Researchers use only the american cockroach (Perplaneta americana) because it is bigger and hardier than most other species."

HA!

2001-09-17 10:11:36 PM

2001-09-17 11:14:01 PM
