FTFA: "more than 80,000 dairy farmers".

There is your problem, economics of scale does not compute.

Government should let them fail and then they should consolidate. Farmers do not need subsidization - regardless of what they tell you!

A well run farm is profitable.

apeman12: Udderly repulsive

I am sorry to report that the once venerable Wall Street Journal, now better known as the NY Post with an expanded business section, has a headline on the story which incorporates the term "udder chaos".

If I ever get the chance I will slap Murdoch old ass back into infancy.

Maybe instead of begging for a hand out they should cut back on costs and sell some cows for meat.

Even if not, he ought to be brought before the world court for violating the Geneva Convention ban on Biological Weapons.

I've always wondered what dairy cattle would taste like.

Seems perfectly cromulent...

I'm not sure all farm subsidies are bad, it makes sense to help them ride out the lows to some extent so that there aren't shortages later. It doesn't make sense to subsidize them to constantly overproduce.

Damn 80,000 dairy farmers? Sounds like there is way too much production and some of them need to shut down. Taking a position that every one of them should stay in business and produce lots of milk that there isn't demand for is dumb.
